Who has the original film of this? I would like to buy a copy of the film. THEN, I'd like to raise money to produce it in HD. Old film can be restored. For everyone in the Judo Community, this would be an asset. I want to restore it, then give it back for free.
You can't make an old film into HD quality, if that is what you intend to do - all you can do is filter out the noise. Little benefit will be gained by resampling to get an artificial higher resolution. It will probably make it worse as you will lose contrast as there is always a trade-off between the two. When it comes to imaging and photography, contrast and dynamic range are far more important than resolution in my books. Contrast can be improved by re-binning - this reduces noise and improves signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

It's the way the Japanese language is pronounced. The "U" sound has a "I" pronunciation so when it's translated into english, they spell it as jiujitsu. Funny enough. No one ever spelled Judo as "Jiudo"
Much more practical as a self defense art than BJJ niche floor grappling is the Kodokan Judo aka Kano Jiujitsu...Not IJJF. This video is really good historical documentation.

恐ろしいまでの技のキレ本物の達人の技はどれも美しいです。
思っていた以上に普通の柔道に見える。ただ、すでに70歳を超えていてのこの身のこなしと体の軸がブレることなく小柄なのに力負けも動き負けもしていないのが凄すぎる。おまけに相手がきちんと受けているとはいえ崩しと作りのスピードと正確さは異常なほどスムーズ。受けにしても単に脱力するのではなく力を入れるところと抜くところの適切な切り替えが素晴らしい。こんなふうに年をとっても柔道できるようになれたらいいな。
