If you watch the video a 1.25x speed the guy sounds normal.
Wow.. that is amazing
bruh thats dirty as fuck
even 1.5
I live with a person with hearing problems & have to to talk slower on a regular basis.
I did that and then was blown away how fast those highway pulls were.... haha
That cooling system needs to be your next upgrade
I installed a 949 Racing crossflow radiator & it worked great at 304HP
Love your build. Got a red '05 MSM with 65k a couple months ago myself. Your vids are going to guide my upgrades. Thanks.
needs longer gearing :) try finding a longer diff or a healthy 5 speed box
Do have the original Bnr turbo, or did they re work it? I am looking to buy a Bnr turbo outright. My Msm is my dd and I cant wait for time it takes for Bnr to convert the oem turbo.
Nice work! I did 309whp and 295tq on my NA8 with an evo 3 16g at 20psi
I just installed a 3" midpipe & Enthuza XR muffler. The stock 2" midpipe was killing the power. I'm going to get a retune. It has more power with the 3" exhaust alone.
Your whp results are the same as a nb with a efr turbo, ls coils, and a 3 inch exhaust at the same boost, posted on a miata forum. The Bnr turbo is a great bolt on for the MSM.
I have the stock midpipe & it restricts down to 2" so once i go to a 3" exhaust I should produce way more horsepower at the same boost level. Im at 17psi I think. Stock midpipe is killing any power gain. I messing with springs on my Xidas now till there is no oversteer & its balanced. I'm 500lbs front 300lbs rear for now.

That thing is fast as hell
Quick question, coming from a Speed 3 owner....... How much would your average MPG be driving this thing around at 300 wheel hp??? With the smaller engine displacement and smaller size car I would imagine it should be a lot more than 9-15 MPG comparing to a 300whp Speed 3....
I did not drive it long before my crappy built engine began to make a ticking sound. With the air fuel reading from the tune they seemed normal at highway speeds 14.5 to 1. Id guess around 25mpg at the least. under normal driving it does not seem to eat gas. Ill be getting my precisely balanced built motor back in a few weeks. Ill make more videos.
Great video, I am getting ready to get a Bnr turbo installed on my Msm. Can the stock turbo be removed and the Bnr installed without removing the exhaust manifold? I will be using Flyin Miata intake. I know I have to change the compressor inlet/outlet tubing to fit the stock ic piping. Do you have any tips for my setup? I have watched all of your videos on your build.
You have to remove the Exhaust manifold & take as much rust off the studs as you can & use penetration oil. When taking off nuts un tighten them then turn them back a little as you take them off to prevent stripping of the threads. It makes it much easier to remove the AC compressor. I looked up silicone reducers on ebay & on line. You need a pipe with a double 45 degree bend to fit from the FM intake to the turbo 90 degree elbow. Here is my build www.clubroadster.net/vb_forum/89-roadster-projects/136257-msmjohn-bnr-turbo-built-engine-build.html
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs Thanks for the info.
Cooling issues? Factory radiator and no coolant reroute 😥
I have not seen any overheating yet. The Mazdaspeed head gasket routs cooling different. I have different fans im going to install. I may do a FM or 949 radiator.
do you feel like this much power is too much for 2nd gear or does the gearing still feel alright? gonna boost my nd soon, and thinking of around 270 whp/wtq. i mainly push my car in 2nd and 3rd so i want the power to be balanced for those gears
It does spin a little in 2nd but 3rd is ok. I guess i could turn down the boost in 2nd but i learned to ease into the throttle & not just punch it. I think it needs more horsepower but change the boost in each gear for best traction in each gear.
Are you running the stock damper or an ati super damper?
stock
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs awesome, thanks. I assume you had your crank balanced when you swapped your rods and pistons? I am doing a similar build, your videos have been very helpful. Thank you!
Did you get the engine back yet?
Yes I got it back.
What clutch are u using?
Flyin Miata stage 2, 353ft lbs torque & it feels like stock pedal. Its good driving in traffic. I cleaned all drops of oil from the entire transmission bell housing & replaced the rear main oil seal myself using a flyin miata install tool & the plate the seal sits in. cleaned all oil off even fingerprints.
jennnay... i luv yew jennayy.
Your radiator is about to split.
I have an extra rad in the garage when i get my engine from the rebuild any day now.
Interested in selling it?
Um like no way haha. Its too much fun. Besides I owned this car from new & I have too much money & labor into it to offer any reasonable price.
Stock radiator :(
For now yes stock radiator & fans. Im thinking about the 949 radiator.
Hey John I been meaning to ask you, what brand shock springs did you get and where you got them from?
I got Xida Race coilovers from 949Racing. Im not sure if they are much better than stock.
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs Awesome I'll look into getting me a set, thanks bro!!!! 👍
Did you take your car to DBW Motorsports in Atlanta???
Yes
Great build! What did you raise your rev limit to and was that any factor in the engine noise?
I raised it to 7200. It has stock valves and springs. Its great at 7200
300 whp on a tiny car is pretty damn quick. Good stuff
The NB is actually pretty heavy but yea it’s still good
Replace your radiator my dude its gonna crack soon
I have a 949 Racing crossflow radiator.
Hahaha I was looking for this comment.
Don't sell this agressive and powerful toy
why dont you rev match your downshifts?
Hi there. My 255whp MSM just decided to throw a rod and grenade itself. So I am looking for a vvt swap+bnr turbo upgrade. Just wondering what is your power number now and how is the trans? My no.1 concern is that my trans gonna be the next weak point and ready to blows up...
I made 304 HP @ 18 psi. I think something was bad with the tune my engine developed a rattle. right now I'm making a custom 2.5" downpipe from the turbo. the stock turbo outlet pipe chokes down to only 1.6". with it gone I should make a huge increase in power & torque.
I just bought a 2004 mazdaspeed miata any thoughts on upgrades for it?
A simple inexpensive intake & boost controller make a big difference in power. 16" Drag wheels with new dunlop 225 size tires make a big handling difference.
so maybe a little enchilada kit, I’ve already bought some smaller wheels for it.
@@lunear9989 Or a AEM short ram intake if they make it. I had to make my own intake for my BNR turbo.
@@lunear9989 enjoy it. These cars are so much fun right out of the box.the only complaint most people including myself have is how short the gearing is. I tend to miss 5th gear a lot because of how weird it is
Do you still have the car? Any updates?
I have the car. It has a new built motor and new improved Evo3 16g turbo. It's on the stock ECU right now. I could just throw in the injectors and Megasquirt Pro ECU & it would have 304whp. It will eat more gas though. I'm waiting to find a tuner.
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs Linfert Performance in Merritt Island in Fl tuned my Ms3 pro,
@@ericmsm674 I'm in Asheville NC. FL is super far.
I swear I saw a similar car for sale
This car seems to be fun and build right. Good job
A 3 inch downpipe is what you want for sure. It transforms everything
Doing pulls while the engine isn't even past 160* is really stupid, your engine oil is even colder.
i have the water temp linear mod. it goes up & down as temp goes up & down linear.
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs I have nevcer seen a miata and hardly any car ever dropped anything more than at most 10* and only duroing deacceleration. You were doing a pull. Temps go up
Awesome you have 2
Looks awesome man!
How would you charge me to rebuild my MSM motor just like urs?
A engine builder friend is coming to my garage & we are going to build a engine here in a few months
Can you give me list of parts I need to buy for the rebuild ?
How is the car running?
right now the engine is out because it was rattling but the engine builder said he found no problems after remeasuring everything.
Nice msm what clutch did you end up using?
Flyin Miata stage 2, 353ft lbs torque & it feels like stock pedal. Its good driving in traffic. I cleaned all drops of oil from the entire transmission bell housing & replaced the rear main oil seal myself using a flyin miata install tool & the plate the seal sits in. cleaned all oil off even fingerprints.
Did you dyno it with the new exhaust? does the BNR spool faster than the oem turbo when you were running meth and 17 lbs of boost?
It was really fast for a few days then I heard a rattle coming from somewhere. I hope is not engine internals. I swear i hear what may be detonation. I spent about $1000 on tuning at DBW Motorsports in Atlanta. It jerked like it hit a boost cut or something last night flooring it in ether 4th or 5th the boost did not even build up full. Im not sure what the heck is going on.
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs Check your ebc line, mine broke and caused over boosting, My intake pipe blew off once. I hope you dont have any major problems.
@@ericmsm674 I found my clutch master cylinder went bad.
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs Mine just went bad a few weeks ago, I am having stalling at idle problem now, I run e 85 and pump with a flex fuel sensor. I hope the idle valve speed control fixes it,might change fpr too.
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs Did you re tune the car yet?
What was your boost level for the dyno pull?
With my stock midpipe that is 2 1/4" then restricts to 2" at the end the power did not go up as we turned up the boost so we cut it off at 17 psi 283 wheel horsepower. I'm going to get a 3" exhaust. my new engine should be ready for pick up this week.
@@mazdaspeedmx512lbs I have a Flyin Miata dp,with a corksport 3 inch exhaust. You should be able to hit 300 whp on pump and around 330 on E-85 with those upgrades.
