Great! review . Sri Lanka and India have always worked together to protect the Indian Ocean. The Indian Ocean has been considered a sea of peace. India has always protected Sri Lanka and come to her aid in times of trouble. Unfortunately, the bottom sea trawling and the illegal fishing practices,and over fishing by Tamil Nadu fisherman have destroyed the sensitive ocean flours. We need to work on a joint mechanism of conservation as this is the land of Ravna . Sri Lanka will never harm India as we are intertwined by history , religion, and culture. We want to see Indian fishermen worship in the shrine of Kathathivu . Let's keep politics aside and protect the ocean so that both our countries can flourish together.
Don't forget to mention that Sri Lanka came to India's assistance when it was in trouble as well ;)
Also, do mention how many Indians are making money off of Sri Lanka.

This is a very pragmatic view and the best way to work it out. This issue should not be politicised to the detriment of both country's long and inter-wound relationship.
India and Sri Lanka signed the agreement to settle the issue of ownership of kachatheevu island in 1974. But the genesis of the issue goes back to the 1920s where India and then Ceylon(former name of Sri Lanka) both under the British rule were wrangling for their hold on this largely barren island which was used mainly as a resting place for fishermen. The issue quickly became a potboiler and political potato domestically in both the nations. In India, Southern states piled the pressure on centre to stake an aggressive claim and hard stand on the welfare of the fisherman community and their interests. Because areas of fishing has always been a bone of contention between New Delhi and Colombo. Colombo has many times taken hard and unnecessary positions like arrests, detention and even shooting against Indian fishermen. On the other hand,another opinion is to not raise the issue for petty electoral dividends as it would disturb our peaceful ties barring sporadic outbursts since the 1980s when the ethnic war started in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Bejing is waiting in the shadows to fish in troubled waters if the issue blows out of proportion. Leaders must display statesmanship and maturity to not stoke diplomatic tensions and public uproar. It would be a wise decision.

If India wants Nepalese territories of Lipulekh , Lipuyadhura , part of Susta and other territories at the Indo-Nepal border , they can be exchanged with Shravasti by signing a Treaty of Exchange of Equal Areas between Delhi and Kathmandu .

In view of the security concerns that India is sensitive about, Sri Lanka is obliged to factor in this aspect, in her relations & choice (& to which extent) she chooses her friends & dispenses her friendly obligations.
She (Sri Lanka) should take care to see that her sovereign territory may not be used (as a convenient platform, by virtue of proximity to India) as a spring-board (or platform) to mount hostile acts against India. Even that possibility may have to be ruled out.
A very informative piece. Forget Nehru. He was only interested in fighting America and supporting and nurturing China. We have to think what will happen if this piece of land falls in the hands of China. We expect a very well informed talk by Swamy on all the foreign policy blunders of Nehru including the refusal of Nepal's request to join India.

They could very well permit such an installation on Delft Island ( Srilanka) which is just 19 kms away... Praveen bhai.. while you well elaborated on the back ground of the issue in Katchtheevu, explained the nuances of geopolitics of that time which was in the backdrop of the agreements, favourable or not for the Tamil fishers and for Indian maritime safety, and you also mentioned the comments raised by a then DMK parliamentarian Nedunchezhiyan against the agreements, why did you not mention that the then Tamil Nadu DMK Government was party to the agreements??
The same DMK which was party to thr agreements is now and has always been fooling the people of TN particularly the fisherfolk, that it was the Congress and Indira Gandhi that gifted the island away. DMK keeps raking up the issue all the time and more resolutely at every election time and hence finally the TN BJP got the truth out with RTI and is spreading the REAL truth.
