A flippin 4 on the Jack??!!! ... WOW! I seriously got mad about that one. There were certainly some other puzzlers but overall you have some beautiful cards there, Graig. They look especially nice in their new tuxedos too. Btw I received the auto card and penny sleever items you sent out so wanted to thank you for that. They fit in nicely with my tiny Captain Morgan collection! Garrr!!
I think you did well, Graig! I saw some stippling running down the right side of the Nicklaus card - all the way down to the right corner. I can see where they recognized that as surface damage which is probably where the 4 is coming from. You might want to be looking a little closer for surface issues front & back. I'm guilty of this too - I see a card with perfect centering and corners and I don't look hard enough at the surface. There's just something about those pre-war cards in SGC holders - love it!
Some great-looking cards Graig! Love the Golf cards! The Ozzie is a really well-centered card, it does look to have some black marks on the left side, but I still think it is a bit under graded.
Man, that Red Heart Spahn is incredible. I actually thought that could have possibly been a 4, but the wave / back centering killed it… The more I think about it, the more I want to do his run along with Kaline and your boy Ernie Banks!
It’s not you, Graig… It’s them! The grades you assigned made much more sense. TPG is random and arbitrary, no matter how you slice it. And I guarantee you put more time into analyzing the cards than PSA/SGC did.
I have graded a lot of 1979 Topps football. The corners and surface are where most of the issues come into play with those cards. Looked like from your images that baseball has similar grading challenges. The graded looked accurate to me. Thanks for your videos!!!!
Beautiful Ozzie. Has very significant roller print lines on left side of front running vertically. Have a bunch of them that graded low as a result. They are tuff on 79’s, which do also seem to have dimples and wrinkles pretty routinely as well.
Wow, those T206's 😍 Such great cards! That is still one of the cleanest Ozzies I have seen. Mine is way off center. The Ryan as well. The centering on those '79's can be wild! 😅
Thanks for sharing Graig. My most recent SGC submission included the '79 Ryan and Ozzie. I projected an 8 on the Ryan, and that's what it came back with. I projected a 5.5 on the Ozzie, and it came back a 4. Maybe some pop control going on with that one? 😂
Great returns Graig. I just finished reading the chapter in Glory of Their Times about Rube Marquard. His father was dead set against him becoming a ballplayer. He had a rough going at the very beginning with getting his foot into the door, but he had so much confidence! I'm hoping that I can find a Marquard portrait soon to add to my Portrait PC.
Hi Graig. Wow, that sports casters card certainly looked better than a four. I have to agree with you pal, those cards are all sharp and look so sweet in the Tux. Even though Ozzie didn`t get the grade you were hoping for, it has great eye appeal, like you said. Thanks for sharing my friend, talk soon pal.
Nice Ozzie Smith rookie card. I've never owned one before, but it's a great card, it is hard to grade super high I think, the centering on the '79's is tough. And yours, is actually, centered pretty well.
Graig, that Jack Nicklaus card is a beauty -- score/grade should have been much higher :) I have that Ozzie Smith and Sammy Baugh -- but my Baugh is only a 4:) Your 5 looks better than my Baugh 4👏👏
Great reveal! The Ozzie rookie is my favorite card from my childhood, and have graded numerous copies. Your copy has great centering for that issue, but the cardboard is so soft that year and is very susceptible to corner and edge wear. It looked like there were black print imperfections on the front left side that they probably took into account on the grade, but it's a beautiful eye appeal copy nonetheless.
I am certainly no expert but it seems that graders are very tough on '79 cards. I will find out first hand next week when I get my '79 Bench and Brock back from SGC. What I see with the Ozzie is that it is slightly low of center, couple of small chips across the top, the discoloration top right border, ink or dirt specs just below the pinstripe border line at the top and also down the left side of the picture and as mentioned the surface dent in his shoulder area. Hard to tell but the upper left corner might have a little touch too. 6.5 a little too harsh? Maybe could be a 7? All in all, very nice '79 Ozzie Smith card that looks great. I would love to have one that looks like that. Most are very poorly cenetered. I think your assessment of the Ryan is pretty good. I would add that the bottom left corner is soft too. 7.5 is probably a fair grade. Again a nice looking card that I would love to have. Thanks for sharing all of these, this is fun content for me to see.
Haha. You didn't catch yourself. The golfer is not Walter Johnson. Beautiful cards. The equally rounded corners make it look as if it was made that way. Less distracting. That's an amazing Ozzie.
the Ozzie has some vertical black speckling from when it was printed. seemed good enough for a 7, imo, but I suppose w/ the gray color imperfection and the print bubble, 6.5 seems about right. my first thought on the Baugh was 4.5
I thought you were pretty good! Especially for a dude who claims to not be good at grading! I always enjoy getting cards back graded higher than I thought they would! So you were on the right side of those two!
Great video. Those T206's look fantastic in the SGC. Keep in mind that there are literally thousands of fake autographs that reside in PSA slabs labeled as real. Get them in person or don't buy them at all.
Sorry the Ozzie came back a little low. It looks great though. Having that card well-centered is tremendous from what I’ve seen of that set. I have never looked much into the Red Hearts so it was cool to see the Spahn. Really great image-reminds me of the 1969 football set I love so much. I may have to look more into the Red Hearts! ❤❤🙌🏻
Great video Graig! Would that Jack Nicklaus pre-rookie card be equivalent to the TipTop Bread Yogi Berra? LOL All of those are great cards my friend. I love the prewar cards and how colorful the ones you have are. The Spahn has great eye appeal no matter the grade. I also have to admit, the Pirate cards are really starting to grow on me! Keep up the great work!
How much for reholdering? If you send in a PSA slab to SGC for crossvoer, how can they evaluate without cracking the slab? So if they don't cross it, do they still charge you? That Ozzie has black print marks all along the left side. In their usual world a 5 on that Baugh is outrageous. In the real world about right.
I think the pre war and tobacco cards in general look so much better in the tuxedo slabs; just my opinion of course, but all mine are in an SGC holder.
The only way to get good at grading is to grade a lot of cards. Experience is key and it is sometimes a painful learning lesson. There are PSA/SGC 7 to 8's with that back centering of the Red Heart Spahn. Unfortunately, every copy of that card has centering like that on the back. It is typically ignored if you have an experienced grader, which is why the back centering didn't play a role into that card's grade of 3.
I keep seeing everyone saying “they are tough on 79’s or the 79’s were known for this or that.” One, grading company shouldn’t have in mind at time of grading, “well here’s a 79, better luck next year.” And if a 79 or any year had issues at the press, that needs to be factored in. Because here’s full disclosure, I have an Ozzie in a PSA 7 and it’s not as good as this. So either poster isn’t transparent about why, or we do have a serious problem with population control and/or inconsistent graders.
When SGC crosses to a new slab, they do not guarantee the old grade. I was told by them it is very rare they change it but the old slab grade is not guaranteed to stay the same.
I emailed customer service before I sent it in for a new slab and that’s the answer they gave me. The card was a 1981 bird/magic rookie in a 5 in an old slab, I didn’t want it to go down to a 4 although it could easily have been downgraded. I will say they did maintain the 5 grade that I sent in
A flippin 4 on the Jack??!!! ... WOW! I seriously got mad about that one. There were certainly some other puzzlers but overall you have some beautiful cards there, Graig. LOL. Glad you got the cards in the mail!!

I appreciate the feedback.
Some great-looking cards Graig! Love the Golf cards! The Ozzie is a really well-centered card, it does look to have some black marks on the left side, but I still think it is a bit under graded.
I love vintage golf cards.
Man, that Red Heart Spahn is incredible. I actually thought that could have possibly been a 4, but the wave / back centering killed it… The more I think about it, the more I want to do his run along with Kaline and your boy Ernie Banks!
Thanks so much. I'm thrilled to own it. I love that card.
It’s not you, Graig… It’s them! The grades you assigned made much more sense. TPG is random and arbitrary, no matter how you slice it. And I guarantee you put more time into analyzing the cards than PSA/SGC did.
LOL.
It all just reinforces the thought that grading is a crapshoot. As always you have a great eye for cards.
I think it's all about the eye.
I have graded a lot of 1979 Topps football. The corners and surface are where most of the issues come into play with those cards. Looked like from your images that baseball has similar grading challenges. The graded looked accurate to me.

Centering is brutal on those years.
Beautiful Ozzie. Has very significant roller print lines on left side of front running vertically. Have a bunch of them that graded low as a result. They are tuff on 79’s, which do also seem to have dimples and wrinkles pretty routinely as well.
That's probably part of it for sure. Good eye.
Wow, those T206's 😍 Such great cards! That is still one of the cleanest Ozzies I have seen. Mine is way off center. The Ryan as well. The centering on those '79's can be wild! 😅

Great book !
I've been listening to it while I drive. So many great stories in it.
Great cards Graig, jealous of those T206s. I’ll be trying to cross some cards to SGC soon too.
Thanks a bunch.
fun to look at TY for sharing. I remember when you bought the scoops cards, cool to see them graded
Thanks!
Great reveal Graig! I’d love to see you crack out the Teddy and send it in, haha! Love the Mookie card!!!
Thanks for watching Theo.
Appreciate it! Same to you.
Nice Ozzie Smith rookie card. I've never owned one before, but it's a great card, it is hard to grade super high I think, the centering on the '79's is tough. And yours, is actually, centered pretty well.
It's a super iconic card.
Those T206s are beautiful, love em!
I love that set. They're so beautiful.
Hi Graig, I think you did pretty good. I love that 79 Topps Ryan, it's a beautiful card. The 54 Red Heart Spahn is cool. Thank you for showing these.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing your grading reveal. Congrats on the cards and grades.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
Got the Mid-Life and Pennysleever cards the other day. How cool. Thanks!!!!!
Terrific. Glad they arrived!!
Great return Graig! I thought you did well! I think overall the grades were pretty fair.
I tend to agree. Pretty fair overall.
Awesome reveal, my Red Heart ❤Spahn clubby! 😊👊
Very nice! Awesome cards awesome channel! Love to get more cards for our collection!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Great reveal! T206s look sharp in a tux. I think they are extra tough on 79 Topps. The Red Heart Spahn is a great image. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. I totally agree with all of your comment.
Received my 3 free cards from you today in the UK Impressive 👍
Awesome thank you!
Graig, that Jack Nicklaus card is a beauty -- score/grade should have been much higher :) I have that Ozzie Smith and Sammy Baugh -- but my Baugh is only a 4:) Your 5 looks better than my Baugh 4👏👏
I'm happy to have it!!

The Ozzie rc is such an iconic card.
That Nicklaus is awesome! Psa is really hard on the sportcaster set.
Yeah. I thought it was a nice copy.

Maybe so. I think I'm just not that great at grading...

Yeah. I agree.

Thanks. Ultimately, the grade doesn't mean a ton to me, so I don't look the cards over as closely as I probably should.
Great video. Those T206's look fantastic in the SGC. Keep in mind that there are literally thousands of fake autographs that reside in PSA slabs labeled as real. Get them in person or don't buy them at all.
I like t206s in SGC slabs as well.

I love that Red Heart set.

Same as the cost of grading. $15
I think the pre war and tobacco cards in general look so much better in the tuxedo slabs; just my opinion of course, but all mine are in an SGC holder.
I totally agree.
Low, high, and just right grades, looks like you got a visit from Goldilocks on the grading. Awesome reveal!
That was my take away, too.
Great cards. That Hagan looks great in the new holder.
It really does. Thanks again my friend.
I do not usually send the card for grading with the autograph. I am just happy to know the autograph is authentic. I thought overall you did fine.
Thanks!
Awesome Ozzie rookie card!
Thanks!
Love those old t206 cards. No idea how the jack got a 4. PSA is incredibly frustrating at times.
It's ok. I still love the card the same.
Hey Graig, what is your Ebay Seller name?
graigemiller
The only way to get good at grading is to grade a lot of cards. Experience is key and it is sometimes a painful learning lesson. Yeah...I hear ya.
what is your ebay store called? I cannot find you on ebay at all
As a seller: it’s graigmiller. But, if you search for any of the cards I mentioned, you should be able to find me that way.
When SGC crosses to a new slab, they do not guarantee the old grade. I was told by them it is very rare they change it but the old slab grade is not guaranteed to stay the same.
I was under a different impression. Do you know if they have that stated on their website?
I emailed customer service before I sent it in for a new slab and that’s the answer they gave me. The card was a 1981 bird/magic rookie in a 5 in an old slab, I didn’t want it to go down to a 4 although it could easily have been downgraded. I will say they did maintain the 5 grade that I sent in
You can't expect to guess correctly on grades if you don't examine under magnification.
We all need Graders Notes!!!
I agree.
I've never seen an Ozzie rookie with centering like that.
Thanks. It's a nice one.
Great video.. Can you tell me your the name of your ebay store please.
I found it. Did not see your reply to a previous post.
Nice cards. It's not that you aren't that good at judging cards. It's that grading (always has and always will be...) inconsistent.
Yeah. You may be right. I agree with a lot. I just think part of it is my lack of technical grading skill.
I’ve always wanted to say “first comment”!!!
Haha, you got it! :)
