Intresting to see how this plays out. I heard old 27.5 Nomad frames sold fast from my LBS when the mullet came out. The Mullet Bronson and Nomad make a lot of sense, but I thought they would leave the 5010 alone. Its a fun jib bike than can be used from dirt jumps and 4x to occasional DH/enduro/bike park. Its not designed to go after KOMs, its to have fun on. Im not sure how the 29er front wheel ties into that.
There's literally nothing you can't do on 27.5 front that you can't do on a 29. I have very little doubt this bike can still jib it up. It's the rear end you'd want playful anyways.
I love my 5010! Don’t think I’d want a 29 inch wheel on the front, it just doesn’t fit the personality of this bike as well. But hey I haven’t tried it so I could be wrong.
Pretty pumped on this, although I'm also skeptical that MX wheels are a fad. I own a V3 5010 and my wife owns a V4 Tallboy. I've always said that If I could take the playfulness of the 5010 and the front end of the Tallboy but with a bigger fork that it might be a perfect bike for my riding. This seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, going to have to try and demo one somewhere!
I am still having a blast on my moded 2019 5010, Will probably keep it for a while! I think if I ever upgrade to a newer model I will probably run a longer fork and switch the 29er to a 27.5 lol.
Not much different on paper between the 2. Besides the 27.5 rear. I am a Santa Cruz fan boy. 15 Bronson, 18 hightower, 18 and 19 5010 and a 20 mega. I love my mega it climbs great, but the 5010 is playful. I been looking at a tallboy and replacing my mega with the Bronson. I did mixed on my hightower and loved it.
This is sorta the opposite of my experience on the 5010. I took it for a 3 day demo on rolling smooth jumpy Midwest trails. Rather than energetic and peppy I found it damp and planted. It felt like the shock tune was much more focused on control and stability. It was very confidence inspiring on jumps and corners but took a ton of rider input to get off the ground. This is compared to the pivot Switchblade and esker rowl that are just itching to launch into the air. I came away thinking maybe this would feel lively on steep aggressive trails but definitely not on rolling terrain.
You're probably best off with a large, but could go medium. Large for stability and poise, medium for maximum playfulness but also less stable handling, maybe.
Hello ! please help me with choosing a bike please ! I would like a unique option, for example: I like to ride around the city on stairs, jump in the park , I would also like to be able to ride on forest roads and hight mountains both downhill and uphiil, so what should i choose ? 5010, Bronson or HightTower ?! Pleas help me Thank you !
Depends where you ride and how you ride. Gnarlier, lumpier trails and more elevation gain/lost would suggest a Bronson being a better choice. More speed and buffer trails probably go 5010.
@@santacruzbicycles2841 I don't disagree that it will handle better at speed but that's not the point here its about screwing around and trying ideas not speed
Have been dreaming of upgrading my current frame to a 5010, now you’ve made it a MX it’s a no go for me. Such a shame as you’ve ruined the best bike in your line up (my opinion).
I miss the magenta on the Bronson and the blue on the nomad from 15 and 16. I love the new megatower blue carbon that's sick. But the new Bronson should be a hot pink or neon color and then add that carbon look like the mega. Great company reason I have bought 6 of their bikes.
Mixed wheels will die out quicker than full 27.5. You already saw how unpopular the MX Chameleon was by comparison to the 29 counterpart, why on earth bring this unwanted trend into the 2023 lineup? Full 29er or GTFO.

I thought so too, then I tried one and for the first time in years I actually want to own a 5010.
1:55 what of I'm looking for a 27.5 front and rear bike? Apparently Santa Cruz dont want my money anymore?
Such a beautiful machine. I lust for a 5010 So Bad! Hopefully someday I will have one to call my own!
I like my 5010s 27.5 front and rear. The mullet doesn’t belong on this bike.
We're all entitled to our opinions. If you do demo this 5010 with MX then let us know if you still feel the same.

why have u made it a mullet there no need
If there was no need we wouldn't have done it. Try this new one back-to-back with the last one and tell us which is more fun.
Where can I buy those little rubber grommets for blocking up the cable routing holes! I’ve been looking everywhere
Sally Beauty Supply.
Any cube dealer should have plenty of them unless they throw them away.

Was a tossup between this and the Tallboy. Still love my Tallboy, but might have to take this for a spin.
Currently have a tall boy but having way more fun on my friend’s 2017 5010. Hate to do it but probably going to sell soon

I don't get the mullet setup and I hate it there's no point
I thought that as well. Then I actually rode the new 5010 with MX setup. Mind changed.
Dude that rider is crazy good and that bike is beutifl and good explantion. But were is the fan that blows air it must get hot in there!!!!!!
Really wanna see jackson rip on this bike!.. 😉
I love mullet. This could be my next bike. But if I move to PNW I’ll get a Bronson with glovebox
Totally agree the Bronson needs a glovebox

The older 5010 with the upper shock position and 27.5 wheels was much better than the newer one imo. Although it depends how you set it up.
STOP WITH THE MULLETS! Please keep straight 27.5 as an option, they're so much better!
Thought so too, until I tried the 5010 with MX wheels...
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
can you use it for enduro?
Literally just bought one and wasn't a mullet setup. Is this an option or something new?

5010. Take one look at it and it's a full-sized, full-suspension BMX. Take another look at it and it's a great trail bike for all-round MTB.

Too much skidding / roosting in this video. Makes Santa Cruz look bad.
