I think £7-10 million is a fair estimate, supported by most news reports. Like the original comment says, a lot of good could have been done with that amount of money - long-lasting good, instead of one day of unnecessary pomp.
I'm not English, but English was taught to us as a subject at school. There was an English reading text in my schoolbook that talks about the coronation and how the famous African diamond was proudly placed in the center of the crown- ever since, I have called the British royals, ‘thieves’. I watched the queen's funeral and realized how outdated and farcical it really is. It's time it was closed down for good.
It was her coronation for me. I noticed how a group of "ladies in waiting" were dressed like ballet dancers, wearing tutus. The action reminded me of some fairy tale, like "Midsummer Night's Dream" perhaps. A bankrupt country trying to punch above its weight.

What always scared me about monarchies are not the monarchs but the people cheering for them, looking up to them, dreaming of being one of them and sucking up every detail of their lives in the tabloids. Without this deeply rooted underling mentality, monarchy wouldn't mean a thing.
