crzyboy190 Thanks for clarifying that. I checked the Spanish version on UA-cam and in that version it sounded like a male voice actor doing Johan's impersonation of Nina, which was also quite effective.
Never truly understood how monstrous Johan really was until I reached this episode. It's not about killing a person. It's not about manipulating someone against his will. It's about sending a young boy to the darkest corner of humanity and allowing his pure white and innocent state of mind to be tarnished black, thus potentially killing him from the inside out.
What's so good with this episode (as well as the one with kids jumping off rooftops) is that both sadism and mercy can be motivations for Johan's actions and they're both equally monstruous. On the one hand, it could be pure, absolute sadism. Creating thoughts in those kids that would utterly destroy their core just to end innocent lives in the cruelest way possible. On the other hand, it could be that Johan is simply showing them his truth. To him, only death makes us equal. Make Milos realise that his existence is meaningless, a mistake nobody cares about, and offer him the epiphany of death after the revelation. For the other kids, show them what existence is about: defying death until it occurs. It's still absolute sadism, but it's the nature of Johan's view of life. He drags you to hell with him, a place where only he is at peace.
Yes , even I didn't realise how cruel Johan was until I reached this 49th episode. To be honest, I was worn apart while watching it. Just imagine how he might have thought? Seeing those things he might've thought that's how his mother was also treated and that's why abandoned him. That clg professor was also MONSTER according to me. Even thou Mr.Grimmer didn't know how to express his emotions. His words came out from his heart with healed Milos on the spot a bit. Of course he can't overcome quickly from that trauma but his friends and the people surrounding him are really good and charming. I don't think Johan saw this anol when he was his age. He was sent to that 511 kinderheim. Like forcexjr said He killed that kids innocent mind this just blew my mind too.
Johan showed the boy darkness. Grimmer, being a man that is wallowed in darkness himself, was able to show the boy light. I havent finished monster yet but I love grimmer

I know its been a long time since this video was posted it, but I would like to notice that the reason why Grimmer cries is because he see himself in Milos, and everything he says to him, he is saying it to himself. The way he says "You were born for a reason. Somebody loved you" is like he is talking to himself. And it's beautiful.
Kind of obvious to point out but Milos stepping on the butterfly at the end really further shows how he now views the world. This innocent kid who like most kids prior to this experience would be happy, laughing, and excited to see that butterfly but now Milos is a changed kid and now hates this world and sees how dark and disgusting he can be. Thus he stomps on the butterfly mercilessly, not to say kids wouldn't do that anyways but in Milo's case he wouldn't have. That innocence he had of the world is gone and he hates it. It's heartbreaking, especially cause these things happen to kids in the real world. Incredibly sad.
I just finished watching the show and Grimmer seeing Milos killing this butterfly unlocked his emotions and he started to cry. He must have subconsciously remember his friend, Adolf Reinhardt from 511 Kinderheim, who wanted to become an entomologist and would never kill the butterflies he caught. This could have brought him back memories from when Grimmer was younger and brought him back to a state of mind where he still had emotions, that's why I think he started to cry here.
Okay, I've been thinking if this scene really makes sense, and I think it does: the kid is in doubts of whether his mother wants him or not. Yohan tells him that his mother is in that place, but if she doesn't call out, then of course, it means she doesn't want him. So by going somewhere with screwed up things he's never seen before, topping it off with the realization his mother abandoned him, of course would probably drive him to suicide. But yes, this scene either way, is fucked up.
i dont think suicide tbh. it would scar him but it takes way worse to commit suicide And i doubt hed do it instantly either. Most suicides happen over time not instantly. Imagine having a perfectly normal life then... something bad happens..like really bad. you might A) feel sad n move on or B) Feel sad and then after some time commit suicide if you even know how to. Its much harder to do it then you think. if it was easy wed have way more bodies especially of teens. in fact id rather the kid be replaced with a teen cuz that actually makes way more sense. "oh hey this random stranger said my mom hates me better trust em instantly and follow their guide. If the kid is that stupid then his parents arent doing that good of a job of teaching him anything.
@@johnynoway9127 did you watch the show?? "If the kid is that stupid then his parents arent doing that good of a job of teaching him anything" brother, he's a fucking orphan. He DIDN'T have any parents to teach him anything. He's been shifted from place to place, never had any long-term parental figure, and the one thing that has been on his mind is finding his mother. He didn't have a perfectly normal life. Very far from it. He most likely had a pretty rough, lonely life even before this entire incident happened. Considering how he talks in the story, hopes of his mother was the big thing holding him and keeping some happiness inside of him, like OP said.
The thing is what happens after you discover no one loves you is that you embark on a splendid world. There's nothing to be ashamed or depressed about really.
That's called a inner freedom you can not be judged you can't be controlled you don't initiate with the term "Love" you become yourself your become dependent without caring for anybody
Okay, fuck Johan. I want to talk about Grimmer. I just finished watching the series for the first time and this moment cemented what I love so much about his character. For someone who went through 511 Kinderheim like Johan, he's almost nothing like him. He's emotionally suppressed, but he knows what's right and wrong. He's trying to heal. He mourns for what he lost, even if he doesn't realize it. I think it was this moment where he started to actually get in touch with the emotions that were ripped away from him all those years ago. Despite whatever he may think about himself, he is an empathetic man.
He's very young and had already met 'those' different kinds of people, also the way they treated him really scarred him. I love how Grimmer made him understand that he was wanted by someone and there's a reason why he was born.
the way he psychologically brainwashed him and sets him up for the harsh reality of this world.. pure genius! so manipulative hits right in the feels lol
I haven't watched the anime, but completed the manga. This was definitely one of the darkest points of the story. Monster is truly a masterpiece. Damn you Urasawa Naoki, always giving me good ol' existential crisis.
This scene definitely mirrors what Johan mind experienced with the real monster finale , it’s the ultimate Bonaberrta experiment & summed up by his question to Dr.Tenma “ did mother chose me to save me or mistaken me for my sister... which is which “ This doubt metastasis into his pSyche like cancer till it becomes a living entity of it’s own ( the nameless monster with in him ) coupled with his acquired philosophy of nothing else matters lives are only equal at death (( he’s the embodiment of nihilism )) it’s realistic as hell I assure you because he’s been their in that boy shoes so he knows what buttons to push
@Useless no, more than waking up, all the ideas of the monster inside Johan came from him, Johan wanted people to experience what Bonnaparta had done to him.
Never completed the series because it was a bit heavy on my younger soul, but this scene finally sparked me to start with Ep. 1 again. Here we go, down the rabbit hole...
Well what a coincidence, I just finished binging the entire series after putting it on hold for years. Let me tell you right now, you're not gonna be ready for this shit, It's gonna be wild.
Poor Milos. But this is what’s amazing about Monster, this story isn’t afraid to show how evil the world can be at any ages. Like, this scene right here isn’t gore but still it’s horrible for a minor to witness.

This lives in my head rent free. Holy sht what a masterpiece. The pure evilness of Johan makes light seem like a loli hentai protagonist. Johan, what a man you are. Bari bari gusha gusha baki baki, gokun.
I always wondered why Johan is like this. He almost seemed sad watching the kid run off and yet brought him to the one place that would fuck with him the most. While also telling the absolute truth. He isn't lying to the kid. Never told him his mom was there. And who knows he may have even waited for the kid.
Idk if it's the same for anyone but this shot is probably my favorite one of the entire series 0:47. It kinda describes Johan. It's him, silently standing in the wind with his disguise. He's an angel from the outside but the devil in the inside. He's looking at Milos go, he's not proud of his manipulation, but he's more done about it. He feels like it had to be done for him. And he knows what will happen to Milos. This right here too 7:42. They can handle horror and emotion omg
The only anime that has ever made my eyes tear up and even cry. Ive watched so many sad anime popular anime with sad moments any you can think of ive most likely watched it but i never cried at it or have it in my mind for more then a day. But this was different
It seems even Johan likes to have some recreation time. Some people paint, others watch videos. Our resident Monster relaxes from his grand plans by driving randoms kids insane.
Johann is simply absolute evil , just started this show a few weeks ago and just got to this episode but man i haven’t come across a villain quite as sick and dark as him 🤯
Its very profound how its wasn't Milos who cried but Grimmer, but not only that, Milos extended his arms to confort Grimmer, you could say that by showing his emotions, Grimmer saves Milos's humanity.
Not all good animetion is just action, Just look from 5:38 forward and u will realize its top tier espically when he gets closer, damn thats a masterpiece
The kid, like Johan and that teacher and everyone else there, would eventually become a apathetic or delighted person corrupted by darkness and perpetuating it all. But this depiction of darkness is necessary to show how bright the light, that is, Grimmer and Tenma, can be. Milosh almost fell into the darkness but Tenma and Grimmer prove that it’s not always too late
Hope is powerful thing. But there is a thin line between hope and desire, between imagination and delusion. Being grateful is the life line when reality shatter your "hope" and "imagination", so you don't fall into the abyss, the abyss of hopelessness. Just because reality stumbles you and you lose your way and purpose, doesn't mean you lost forever.
I know that the show is supposed to be grounded in reality, and it is for the most part, but this arc as a whole bothers me for this reason. How is it that Johan can imitate his sister so perfectly? The guy must have an amazing vocal range.
Aside from the voice, they were twin so they had similar build plus johan is an expert at studying people so no doubt he could behave as nina but that doesn't really matter since the actual nina never actually talked to anyone that johan while disguised did, so the other people wouldn't have any reason to doubt johan either
From all the things he did, this was the most cruel and despicable. I'm a teacher and what I hate the most id adults being cruel or "teaching bad things" to kids. The whole volume in the mangá made want to vomite.

you might
A) feel sad n move on
or
B) Feel sad and then after some time commit suicide if you even know how to.
@@johnynoway9127 I agree , finally someone who shares the same sentiment. The kid should be replaced with a teen
Considering how he talks in the story, hopes of his mother was the big thing holding him and keeping some happiness inside of him, like OP said.
exactly what I was looking for, thank you! grimmer getting the kid away from the bridge is one of my favorite scenes from the show
Agreed, and it proved Johan wrong. Someone did want him.
When u see this u realize why johan is called a monster
Yes I agree , I hated his so much
Downright the best scene for me in any anime I've watched. This is honestly terrifying. I don't have words to describe this...
when milos stretched his sweater,i felt that
We all felt that
The thing is what happens after you discover no one loves you is that you embark on a splendid world. There's nothing to be ashamed or depressed about really.
Interesting. Why is that?
You have nothing to lose, that’s why...

I'm finishing to watch, perfect anime ...
confirmed for best waifu
When mr grimmer hugged that boy so tight I shed a tear
Okay, fuck Johan. I want to talk about Grimmer.
I just finished watching the series for the first time and this moment cemented what I love so much about his character. For someone who went through 511 Kinderheim like Johan, he's almost nothing like him. He's emotionally suppressed, but he knows what's right and wrong. He's trying to heal. He mourns for what he lost, even if he doesn't realize it. I think it was this moment where he started to actually get in touch with the emotions that were ripped away from him all those years ago. Despite whatever he may think about himself, he is an empathetic man.
Thank you so much for uploading all these clips!
Nastia179 I am glad :)
@@arwint.5630 Thank you. You uploaded the best clips from entire anime:)
7:48 there's still hope
ah grimmer. I love him really bad
Who doesn't
Johan created another version of himself in Milos. He carries on his evil. His Monster.
Bonaparte is the real monster.
How was the show this time? You loved it?
This scene broke my heart
I hated him so much when i watched this
@laith lee It's Johan ffs, Nina was with Dieter. Watch the damn anime
Matthieu Weeabo... no.. just not kids
this scene traumatized me too hahaha
Poor Milos. But this is what’s amazing about Monster, this story isn’t afraid to show how evil the world can be at any ages. Like, this scene right here isn’t gore but still it’s horrible for a minor to witness.
Wolfgang grimmer, such a wonderful guy
This was one of my favourite episodes because of how dark and raw it was.
How the hell Johann can simulate Nina’s voice?
I’m mean, if you thing that as a real thing happening, there’s no way a man simulate a girls voice like you this
People can do that in real life too...In Naruto, for example, it's a woman who dub his voice
Because it’s a fucking cartoon you dickhead, that’s why
they are twins, my little sister and her twin brother had same voice and face
Maybe because Johan has a more softer voice, which probably made it easier for him to imitate his sister’s.
This was just cruel.
Lmfao Johan is a great guy, i like him already.
@Squee505 thats johan pretending to be nina
Squee505 you do realize that this is johan pretending to be nina
Did you even watch the show
@光 it's johan pretending to be nina you dumbfuck
have you even watched the show? tf
@@octobre1971 I'm saddened when we all watch such beautiful anime and still act like a bunch of chumps to each other. Calm down, there's no need for name calling.
@@damnthatsrough970 lol he got quiet. i always say, if your going to antagonize people at-least get the facts right. Calling someone an idiot followed by a mistake is hilarious though.
The things happened to the boy it happened to me too I mean the feeling it’s like the world doesn’t give damn about me so I will do stuff I shouldn’t be doing because of tremendous sadness affect the brain but thank God anime is live saver it changed me
everyone's a gansta untill, Johan liebert tries manipulating someone😖😱😱😨
This lives in my head rent free.
Holy sht what a masterpiece. The pure evilness of Johan makes light seem like a loli hentai protagonist. Johan, what a man you are.
Bari bari gusha gusha baki baki, gokun.
Oddly specific lmao
GERIS!
Lmfao with that loli hentai prtag
He's even wearing his iconic tan blazer. XD Shameless!!
This is one of the most pure evil things I’ve seen any antagonist do.
this is one of the scariest episodes of any tv show ive ever seen. it was more terrifyingly disgusting than anything.
I always wondered why Johan is like this. He almost seemed sad watching the kid run off and yet brought him to the one place that would fuck with him the most. While also telling the absolute truth.
He isn't lying to the kid. Never told him his mom was there. And who knows he may have even waited for the kid.
Man that kid has affected by most dangerous psychological trauma that he will never forget till end of his life he will end up becoming evil 😢
Nobody is talking about how great development grimmer got, it literally made me cry
The only anime that has ever made my eyes tear up and even cry. Ive watched so many sad anime popular anime with sad moments any you can think of ive most likely watched it but i never cried at it or have it in my mind for more then a day. But this was different
Johan Best antagonist ever.
This moment made me cry
the teacher part caught me off guard that was horrific
Yearslater that kid became an Internet meme as a dancing masculine dude with Puerto Rica flag bandanna
I need a grimmer in my life
😔
Yes i need Steiner
It is true, all it takes is one bad day..
What bad day Johan is evil from his very core this guy is the devil personified

It seems even Johan likes to have some recreation time. Some people paint, others watch videos. Our resident Monster relaxes from his grand plans by driving randoms kids insane.
When I saw this I was so done with Johan
Johann is simply absolute evil , just started this show a few weeks ago and just got to this episode but man i haven’t come across a villain quite as sick and dark as him 🤯
5:13 best emotional moment for grimmer
The way this movie tell about childhood trauma is...
Its very profound how its wasn't Milos who cried but Grimmer, but not only that, Milos extended his arms to confort Grimmer, you could say that by showing his emotions, Grimmer saves Milos's humanity.
Not all good animetion is just action,
Just look from 5:38 forward and u will realize its top tier espically when he gets closer, damn thats a masterpiece
This scene traumatized me when I was kid
Well this anime isn't for kids
The cruelest thing you could do to a child.
Man, I love Grimmer.
Boy, we stan Grimmer in THIS house
He was right. There's nothing in this world
Poor Jan, he fell for the trap
I WISH I COULD OWN THIS MASTERPIECE AS WELL HAS PARANIOA AGENT AND TATAMI GALAXY ON DVD =/ ITS NOT FUCKING FAIR MAN =(
IKR THE MANGA WILL HAVE TO DO
This is one of the darkest episode in monster.
when he stepped at the moth. dat hit hard
Holy shit dude really just gave a kid existential crisis
when you remember the finale grimmer has also lost his child. thats why he is so sad 😥
In Which EPC was this parte from?
Johan the ultimate blackpiller
I guess this is what happens to most teenagers these days
I know that the show is supposed to be grounded in reality, and it is for the most part, but this arc as a whole bothers me for this reason. How is it that Johan can imitate his sister so perfectly? The guy must have an amazing vocal range.
Aside from the voice, they were twin so they had similar build plus johan is an expert at studying people so no doubt he could behave as nina but that doesn't really matter since the actual nina never actually talked to anyone that johan while disguised did, so the other people wouldn't have any reason to doubt johan either
And thats the begining of another johan
This anime is awesome.
nice little experiment....
From all the things he did, this was the most cruel and despicable. I'm a teacher and what I hate the most id adults being cruel or "teaching bad things" to kids. The whole volume in the mangá made want to vomite.
Just keep watching and reading Monster and you'll be in Germany.
This is very painful... 💔
I love grimmer so much
As much as meaningful values and beliefs can be destroyed and detached; reduced in worth, values can be generated and created as well. This scene shows both are possible for us, we can do both.
Evil is born from good. A doubt, a simple doubt, and the monster starts to exist.
Proven by lunge..the same doubt can free an innocent man.
If this is true then my monster is probably big now... lol
This comment is true
Wow, end to the core, the devil😢
