- We put together a little Top Ten of our favourite Abandoned Railway Stations from our 2019 travels. This primarily consists of our Every Disused Station series. SO if you would like to know more about each line and station be sure you have clicked on that playlist.
A massive thanks to everyone who has helped us along the way, as we say in the video, please leave a comment below and tell us where we should try and get in 2020. Its been an amazing year. Thank you. - Розваги
Where should we definitely explore next year? What lines, stations, and tunnels should be at the top of the list! Any suggestions will make it onto our website. Thanks for watching.
Whitewick's Abandoned Railways Cwmbran is waiting. We may only have one line and station now but we used to have two lines and several stations. And the Marches line has opportunities for closed stations on an open line-Caerleon and Ponthir spring to mind. And up towards Pontypool and Blaenavon lots of opportunties -including a short preserved railway.
Theres some abandoned lines on the Isle of Wight that look interesting. Also, the Hertford, Luton & Dunstable line: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hertford,_Luton_and_Dunstable_Railway
Killamarsh and the rail lines around the easy of Sheffield. Lots to see and walk along and pretty accessible.
@@furryanimal8776 Sounds perfect!
@@chriszanf excellent, thanks for sharing.
You should walk from Bala to Ffestiniog, one of the most remote and scenic disused railways you'll come across. Great vids in 2019, very enlightening, keep up the superb work.
Cheers Greg, I'll add that to the list.
Just stumbled across this one, thanks to the newsfeed....obviously liked, watched and subscribed!!
Love the video!!
All the best for 2020!!
Greetings from a Swede in Glasgow!

Nice. Looking forward to your adventures in 2020!
Many thanks for all you have done you two, enjoyed it. All the best
Come to Haydock between Liverpool and Manchester. Haydock was a small mining community which what was officially a village. It had three stations. Haydock Park racecourse, Ashton station (which was in Haydock), and Haydock station itself. It featured in The Guinness book of records as having the steepest gradient in The UK. Also close by is the Sankey Viaduct built by Stephenson for the Liverpool to Manchester line, which is still in use today. Sadly all the stations have gone along with some in Wigan and Warrington. We also have the Huskinson memorial to the first man to perish on our railways. So lots to see, and lots of accommodation close by.
Thanks for all the wonderful videos.
Have a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
Thanks Lynton, added to the list! Best wishes to you and yours too.

Just found your collection of videos, fantastic.
More power to your elbow.
I find them fascinating as I live most of the time in Greece and miss being able to go out exploring as you two do 😁
Great top 10 folkies. Keep them coming in 2020 as they are great. Also a top festive period to you both and the Fam. Oh if you want a day or two out there are some brilliant branch line stations here in Mid Wales and North Herefordshire to many too choose.
Cheers Paul, we have done a few mid Wales, but I am sure a few more to tick off as yet,
Merry Christmas, thank you for all your videos. Wishing you the very best for 2020.

👏🎄❤️😁Thank you so much for sharing these with us - happy Xmas and New year 😁xx
Happy Xmas and New year to you also.
I'm pleased West Meon made it to number 2! I'm updating Wikipedia's entries for this line (and the mis-titled Eastleigh to Fareham line) and I cycled Gosport-Fareham-Wickham to West Meon (and back) this summer.
Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys bring us in 2020!
Thanks Paul, I will keep an eye on the entries.
That was a very nice video whit top 10 from you. Keep on the good work in ti 2020. Merry Christmas to you all.

Enjoyed the video. So sad to see these abandoned stations. Merry Christmas Paul & Rebecca. Have a prosperous & healthy 2020.👍👍.😎
Thank you David and to you.
I lived in Marlborough in the 1990s and routinely heard of the train that used to service the town.
I know you touched on this recently with your excellent 3 KM x 3 KM presentation with the Savernake forest but more detail would be sincerely appreciated! Thanks for your great and inspiring work!
Thanks Ron. Assume you mean the 60's or 50's. Best sight for research is 'swindons other railway'. Loads on there.
Hi Paul & Rebecca. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you for all your videos this year and looking forward to your next adventures in 2020.
Thanks Paul, merry Christmas to you too.
Have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year. Looking forward to more exploration in 2020.
Steve
Cheers Steve, we are most definitely looking forward to some new adventures in 2020
Keep up the great work, South Linconshire im in the bourne (pe10) and would be happy to show you most of the disused stations around hear along with old photos and maps 👍
Happy Christmas Team Whitewick! Great video, you've been to some lovely spots this year! One place I'd put on your list for 2020 is Cullen, up in Scotland on the Moray Coast Line - I saw someone else already mentioned it, it's a good one :) There's not much left of the station itself, but you won't care about that when you see the viaducts. And the view...
Thanks Tim. Merry Christmas from us to you too. Brilliant that wounds right up our street. Scotland is definitely on the list come 2020 so we shall make sure the Moray Coast line is close to the top
Happy New Year and look forward seeing more of your videos in the New year. A nice one to try, As you done the Somerset and Dorset line towards Bath. Follow the middland line to Bristol, known today as Bristol and Bath Railway Path. With few of the stations still in place. forms part of the Avon Valley Railway, where they lovely restored Bitton station. You also got Warmley station now a tea rooms with the signal box, and my favourite Mangotsfield station. A long V shape station with trees planted on the platfroms to look like the old canopies and the stations walls that once made a lovely station building. Also a railway tunnel at Staple Hill as you head into Bristol.
Happy Christmas to both of you and your loved ones. This year has been fun, and I can't wait until next year to share more adventures...
Thanks Leonard much appreciated.
Well done guys, you are keeping the old lines alive. Gordon.
Thanks Gordon.
I have enjoyed your videos this year, thank you and Merry Christmas, Josh
Cheers Josh, much appreciated. Heres to 2020.
Have watched a few of your videos, most interesting. We're thinking of visiting Sauchtree next year as our first trip to Scotland. Looks good and hope the breakfast is as hearty as you said. Thanks, Rick the Bulldog of Digon Alley Station. (Yep, a Harry Potter Fan}
Merry Christmas to you both, loving the videos
Merry Christmas Paul and Rebecca I enjoyed your watching all your videos.
Thanks Bob and to you and yours.
A merry Christmas to you both and thank you for the great videos of your explorations 🎅🏻🎄
Thank you Keith. Merry Christmas to you too.
Have u given up on every station lol still love all you content and really look forward vids. Thankyou both so much and merry xmas to u both xxx ps just lost my dad last friday and my mum 6 months b4. I find ur vids comforting and help keep me sane xxx
Really sorry to hear that Christine, glad the videos help you. We take great pleasure in making them so it means a lot that you enjoy them. Every Station is still most definitely on the cards. We get so wrapped up in everything else we see along the lines it would be daft not to record them too.
Many thanks for the video's from the past year, im look forward to your 2020 adventures. Happy Christmas and New Year to you both
Thanks David. Looking forward to producing more in 2020. Happy Christmas
Wonderful channel... The amazing hidden histories of rural UK..
What a year! The Cadishead video was the first one of yours I ever watched and I've been rapt ever since. Your videos are some great escapism, both relaxing and informative - here's to 2020!
For next year, the old Brockenhurst to Ringwood and Poole railway is a great walk (if you haven't already). I often walk just the West Moors to Ringwood section, but there's so much more
Thanks Alice. That's exactly the style we aim for! Yup the New Forest isn't far from us so it's a definite plan this year.
Great channel.I sort of fell into the fascination of working out where lines ran and love looking at maps and working out what was compared to now. I live by the Derwent valley Railway up here in the north east.Lots of old stations and impressive viaducts and of course a station master was murdered at Lintzford and was never solved.Really going to get into your channel.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. Nice choice of music as well, so refreshing to hear something other than generic background 'beats'. 👍👍👌
Thanks Julian. Yup it's close to impossible to please all so we just try and please us.
@@pwhitewick if you are ever in the Bedford or Cambridge areas there are some abandoned stations which have been left to decay on the old Bedford to Cambridge line. Platforms are well in evidence at Bedford and willington. Not too sure about the rest of the line, but would make a good day out if you are in the area.
Wishing both of you a wonderful and beautiful Christmas. Thank you for your continuing and amazing search for abandoned stations.
Thanks Jim. Merry Christmas to you too.
Great video again Paul and Rebecca. Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you.
I suggest, in Scotland, the Callander and Oban Railway, the Dunblane to Crianlarich section is disused, through Glen Ogle is stunning.
The Fort Augustus to Spean Bridge, the most unsuccessful Railway in Scotland, a tunnel and many stunning bridges. It also has a restored station.
I forgot to mention that the old station at Lochearnhead is owned by the Scouts.
Also, the Boness and Kinneil Railway, and the Keith and Dufftown Railway.
And, not forgetting the smallest station, Inches, on the Lanark to Muirkirk line.
Excellent suggestions Alistair thank you. Scotland will most definitely be on the list this coming year. I'll add those suggestions to our list
You guys should definatley come back to essex, do the witham - maldon and woodham ferris line. Plenty of it still there, would happily be the tour guide :)
Keep up the great work. Love the videos!!
Excellent...! Merry Christmas...
Really enjoyable railway revue! Merry Christmas to you both and a Happy New Year! Don't forget to get in touch when you're in the area. All good wishes, Ed
Thanks Ed, much appreciated and yes, definitely haven't forgotten.
Thanks for some great videos this year, have a great Christmas both and here's to next year 🎅
Thanks Steve. Roll on 2020
Thank you, Loved it. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas Rod
awesome video to round off 2019..Takes a lot of work to make this type of compilation. much appreciated. Lets hope we don't get too much Rayne''' next year Rebecca. x
Cheers Keith. Might sneak one more in before the years out!
Just found you through your joint Geoff Marshall blog in Herefordshire. Enjoyed your 10 disused stations 2019.
You asked for suggestions for the future. Shropshire has some amazing selection of disused lines I think a visit to Bridgnorth to Ironbridge and on to Shrewsbury would be a great adventure. Mark
Thanks Mark. Welcome to the channel and thanks for the suggestions
Merry Christmas P & R! Thank you for entertaining and educating us!
Always a pleasure Ben.
Super video, guys. I find abandoned railway stations quite eerie. There is an old line running adjacent to our house, which once linked Southport to Preston via Hoole, Hesketh Bank and Penwortham Cop Lane. Not much remains, but it may be interesting to find out exactly what DOES remain.
Another brilliant video thank you
A pleasure thanks for watching.
Another great video guys, looking forward to many more in 2020, Maybe the stainmore line well worth a visit 👍.
Hope you both have a great new year and all the very best for next years adventures:)
Thanks Grant, much appreciated.
Fantastic, great video. Australia.
I'm one of your newer subs and I've really enjoyed your content. I have already mentioned Devil's Bridge in a comment on one of your recent vids and also think a visit to Rowtor Target Railway on Dartmoor would make an interesting vid. Best of luck for 2020.
Thank you Vin and thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to try and update the list over Christmas.
bang on ! really enjoyed that . keep up the good work . really enjoy your films
Cheers James. Roll on 2020
Oooh I do love a list. Happy Xmas Paul and Rebecca and here's to more excellent content in 2020.
Everyone loves a list... well that was at least in part the theory!. Cheers Karl, Happy Xmas to you and yours too.
A Merry Christmas Paul and Rebecca, Happy New Year and all the very best for 2020. Thank you for all the superb videos. Looking forward to 2020.
Merry Christmas to you too Andrew.
Scotland has quite a few abandoned lines that have been made into cycle tracks. Kilbarchan Renfrewshire still has station platforms and miles of tarmacked trackbed. Great video Thanks
And a happy Christmas to you two.
Happy Christmas to favourite railway / history channel !
Ah thank you, very kind.
thank you for your hard work and videos - Happy Christmas!!
Cheers GJM. Much appreciated.
Merry Christmas to the both of you Love the videos If you're ever back in the northwest again Woodhead tunnel's worth a visit with the remains of the station All the best for the New Year Cheers Keith
Great video, as usual. Look up Hadlow Road on the Wirral Hooton to West Kirby line and the rest if the route, now Wirral Way, if not already mentioned. Also the old Cheshire Lines route from Halewood to Southport. Much of the route is now a Sustrans cycle and walking route. Merry Christmas!
Sounds perfect William, thanks for the tips.
Couple of days early I know but hope you and yours have a happy and prosperous new year, thanks for the memories!
And to you Stephen.
Wickham in Hampshire, very interesting.........Thanks for this year's videos Merry Christmas to you both :)
OLDEREK1 I live near Wickham
You are definitely in my top ten youtubers..... thank you and merry Christmas......
You know I want to see your list now!
@@pwhitewick
You're actually in my top five....the other four are: Patrick Dickinson: All the Stations, 'Harrys Farm', and 'The Missenden Flyer' (motorcycle vids)....but railways are my true passion. I drive HST's, love my job, and there is nothing else I would rather do. Incidentally, if you want a fantastic place to stay, I can highly recommend 'Newtonmore Signal Box'. It is right on the platform of the station. and ideal as a base to explore that area.....regards, Julian.
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne brilliant thanks Julian. Still driving HST's.... Midlands or Sctoland? (Or I guess GWR castle sets).
@@pwhitewick I drive for EMR. I have been driving these trains for 18 years now and they never cease to bring a smile to my face. Like many of my older colleagues, I will be truly gutted once they are finally gone. Start slowly from a station, get it into notch three on the power handle, let the amps build up, wait until you hear the turbocharger winding up then 'give her the gun'.....makes the hairs on my neck stand up as she whines (and winds) up......Best train ever built in my opinion...
What a cool video. 👍👍
Happy Christmas to you two as well. Obviously I'd like to see something from Derbyshire, Friargate station for one and maybe a collaboration with Trekking and Towpaths, Tonge station and perhaps the abandoned line through Little Eaton for another. What ever you decide, it'll be a great 2020.
Thank you for the suggestions, perhaps all those things can happen!
Excellent viewing 👌🏼
Thinking on I used to deliver 📦 (I'm a courier) to an old station at Dent near sedbergh in the lakes. It was converted into a house and was beautiful with nothing around it for miles. A pain in the arse delivery though 😂
It’s Christmas Day here in New Zealand I so enjoy all your videos, very interesting and done with humour thank you
Thanks Terry, Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you both
Merry Christmas Rebecca and Paul ! Meon is so beautiful and the last one Saughtree...Wow! I would love to stay there!
2020, please more locations with Martin Zero! I found you through him and love you both! I like your top 10 lists! Great to see some of the best locations in one video! I hope you do another fun video with your daughter too! And maybe finish that list of abandoned stations in that circle, with her! Rebecca don't kill me, but lol How about you do an episode where you narrate and tell the history and do most of the on camera work! Just and idea! Thanks again for a great year of video's!
Thanks Miles, really pleased you enjoy the channel. Yup we have plans with Mr Zero hopefully come spring time at the latest. Not sure about any silly plans but we always love to shoehorn in some funnies every so often.
I live in cinderford, been on that embankment a few times,my mum remembers when there was a active railway in cinderford, great video
Thanks Paul. What an amazing sight that would have been
Many thanks for all of your interesting films- I look forward to many more in 2020!
One abandoned railway my family like to cycle along is Dorset’s ‘Rodwell Trail’, running from Weymouth to Portland- many of the platforms are still visible, and it’s a generally easy bike ride, with plenty of history and sights along the way. Once you get to Portland there are lots of tram routes for the quarries which would also make for an interesting explore!
Hardest bit (apart from the big Portland hill!) would be trying to find a parking place in Weymouth!
Best wishes to you all for the New Year!
Brilliant video! I know I've said this one before but I really think you'd like Wheathampstead Station in Hertfordshire. To me it's a perfect example of a community restored station. There's also a certain Oscar Winner waiting for a train! When you come to do the old railways around Leek, Staffordshire I'd happily show you those lines as I regularly explore them! Merry Christmas and a very happy 2020 to you both!
Thanks Henry. We nearly did Leek instead of the CHPR. Nearly.
I'd love to see you visit the Callander and Oban line. I went to Stirling University in the early 70s and visited the abandoned part of the line. The view from Glenogle viaduct is just amazing. Glenoglehead station was a scout centre and Luib station was in same condition as on the day it closed, with documents still on desks. I would hate to think that it has now been vandalised.
As someone born in Dunfermline, I'd love to see you do a video about the area. Although there aren't many closed stations, there are an enormous number of closed lines, many of which I visited or travelled on back in the 60s and 70s. One of my uncles, who was a train driver, even let me drive a class 37 on a goods train between Alloa and Dunfermline Upper back in the late 60s when I should have been revising for a French exam the next day. I scraped through the exam.
PS: Nearly forgot. Merry Christmas and looking forward to your videos in the New Year.
Thanks William and thanks for the ideas. Merry Christmas to you and yours too
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Paul and Rebecca really enjoying the adventures.
Thanks Rob. Happy Christmas to you too
Really enjoy the videos guys. Two suggestions for a visit. 1. Isle of Man old Peel and Ramsey lines great scenery and a good walking path. 2. Manifold Valley in Staffordshire just east of Leek off A52 to Ashbourne, the railway that came too late and left too early!
Enjoyable as usual. If you're passing.... there's an abandoned station at Coleshill by Jcn 4 M6. Not much to do there though...but a station none the less. Have a great Xmas bothn and New Year! :)
Thanks for the suggestion Ian. Merry Christmas to you too.
Great video Paul and Rebecca, beautiful scenery and Ariel shots👌,the hayling Billy line I think you should do, although I live near it I haven't walked it myself but heard good reports, some lovely scenery, and 2nd world war history, mulberry harbour stuff their, merry Christmas and a great new year 👌😀
All sounds like it could work well for a video. Thank you, all the best to you and yours too.
You need to visit Shropshire! Enough to keep you busy for some time! Thank you for your efforts.
My suggestion is something I'd love to do myself were it not for lack of time. How about visiting all the stations from the Flanders and Swann song 'Slow Train'. Some gone, some still there and some re-opened.
Paul, would you consider taking one of your walks from three bridges to the balcombe roadthe old line to east grinsyead is still a good footpath, but wellies are advised, also would you consider a visit to south water station, recently updated and improved into a proper village. Centre. I would invite you to eastgrinstead, but I don’t live there.Tim kingswood. Crawley
Nice video🚶🏼♂️🚶🏼♀️🚂 happy new year
Thanks Caroline. And to you
Merry Christmas Paul and Rebecca and a very happy 2020.
Thanks Mike and to you too.
Very interesting 👍🚂
