Pricing for these now appears to be confirmed at £130 / €170 / $210 by the way!
The US continues to get ripped off. That's such a huge markup after converting the UK price to US.
Its just the seafood stew scene from the big short with Anthony Bourdain dumping all the sprues that don’t sell into a pot and reselling it. It was a scene to illustrate the housing market collapse crisis of 2008 when bad mortgages were repackaged together and labeled good lmao. Great vid though man!
One thing to remember about the Fists box is that the box itself placed on its edge doubles as a giant wall for them to hide behind.
/Iron warriors have entered the chat/
I don't think a comment has gotten me this good in a minute lmfao
Fortify, fortify, fortify
Tyranids are good climbers
AND LIKE THE YELLOW COWARDS' OTHER DETESTABLE WORKS OF PATHOS, IT WILL BE SREDDED LIKE PAPER BEFORE OUR SUPERIOR FIREPOWER
I like how they addressed the complete absence of xeno battleforce boxes this christmas by making more space marine stuff.
I do think the white scars box would be a great start to a Ravenwing force of someone were so inclined.
Yup, then you could just sell Kor’Sarro to get better value out of the box
I was kinda thinking the same.
My local hobby store sold out the Raven Guard box immediately, they still had Custodes boxes a week later for some reason. But apparently everyone wanted the RG one, they even had people asking if they will have more 😂
That box was weak sauce
So, there's a lot of masochists in your area then.
Same here but in my area they buy RG box and paint them to be Ultramarine 😂
My area still has the RG box but sold the IF one right away. Go figure.
It feels like it depends on the shop. My shop still has its IF and RG boxes, all its custodes, but the Knights and Mechanicus and sisters were all instantly gone
I do love that they went back to the artwork box sets.
I bought 2x Imperial Fists boxes and 2x Dark Angels Combat Patrols to start my Imperial Fists army for the new year. Will be 100% Gravis (enabled by the new force org options) + 3 Redemptors.
Ultramarines box is the best. You get do many good miniatures for it. Intercesors, blasters, bladeguard, calgar with his Marines and a librarian... So many good units.
If it weren't for the Reivers (yet again, again, again) the raven guard box would be fine. Okay the librarian is dumb, but at least he's not a single model you can get normally, so he's sellable.
The double invictus is great. Even if you have one already, doing a triple list with them would be very fun, definitely a big puzzle for opponents to solve. The fix would be infiltrators or better yet a 10 man infiltrator/incursor box.
For me the worst one is Salamanders (you already have intercessors and you'll very rarely need more than 15) and then the white scars due to the bikes that are also commonly available from box sets. For me it's 2x3 from indomitus (trading the necrons away).
All of these Battle Force boxes would be great for NEW players who want to start an army at a discount… but spending $200+ all at once can be daunting for new players. Whereas veteran players are more accustomed to spending that kind of money on WH40K, but the BF boxes are less likely to offer units we don’t already own, which hinders their appeal.
For example, the 2 Invictor War Suits in the Ravenstrike box would’ve appealed to me 3 years ago when I was expanding my Ultramarines army, but now I already own 2 Invictors.
Another problem with these new Battle Force boxes are the lack of variety. The Imperial Fists BF box seems incredibly lazy with 3 units of Heavy Intercessors. It should’ve included units more thematic with Imperial Fists, like the Hammerfall Bunker or Servo-turret.
I agree that the 20 Intercessors in Salamanders BF box doesn’t make sense. It should have a unit of Hellblasters and Inceptors instead.
The Scions of Macragge BF box would’ve been PERFECT for me 2 years ago, but now I already everything in this box. I would’ve been great to get Calgar and Tigurius and the multi-part Bladeguards. Although I don’t understand why Hellblasters are in this Ultramarines box instead of Salamanders.
The Iron Hands BF box is probably the best value for new players for ANY Space Marines army because 2 Redemptor Dreadnoughts are amazing, and a Techmarine and Intercessors are always useful. This is another BF box I would’ve bought to fill out my Ultramarines army 2 years ago, but I already did that using Combat Patrol boxes.
If I was starting a Space Marines army today, or recommending to a friend how to build a 2000 pt army as quickly as possible, I would buy the Ultramarines, Iron Hands, and Salamanders BF boxes.
I’m tempted by the Iron Fists box. Aside from the units in it, the upgrade sprue with all its bionics actually makes it useful for personalisation in other chapters, unlike the other upgrade sprues which have limited generic value
With all the intercessors these seem like better choices for new players, but then coming out after Christmas seems like a bit of a misstep. I wonder if they were originally meant to be tied into a cancelled or delayed release or something.
it could also be they released the two "bad" ones at christmas to get people to buy them, then released the better ones later, so that people will feel they need to get their legions better box in addition to the "bad" box they already baught
It certainly looks like they had something planned for these. But I imagine issues behind the scenes just lead to them being released now.
Every chapter that didn't got a combat patrol box now got a battleforce. I think it's simply an, every chapter have a box of the old stuff before we release the new shiny things, kind of release.
It's a great choice for people who don't know anything about the rules
No one needs 20 intercessors not even new players
hoping to grab an iron hands box - everything in there is useful for me as an actual iron hands player - but really liking the look of the ravenguard one too. all my phobos troops (infiltrators and incursors) have been converted to use the reaver pistol-foregrip bolters, so another 10 that i can convert into 5 infiltrators and 5 incursors is great. the warsuits fit my iron hands walker force pretty well, and i'll convert shrike into a firstborn smashcaptain
Chances are the blood angels box hasn't appeared due to new upcoming sculpts?
I'm hoping it's melee primaris with jetpacks
Wasn't 10th edition 'Indomitus' rumoured to have Blood Angels Vs Tyranids?
@@leiziru9642 yeah
I believe this is just for the marine chapters who are without an updated supplement for 9th edition no?
My guess is that we’re not gonna get any more of these battleforces since they got one for each of the codex compliant founding legions.
I'm gonna be picking up the Iron Hands boxset for sure and use it a starting point for an Iron Hands Army
If I didn’t already have about 8,500pts of Ultramarines I’d absolutely be buying the Ultras box.
Currently debating if I get the IF box to expand the Ultras army as I love gravis armor, but I dunno, I actually have pretty much those exact models already sitting on my desk waiting to be painted. 🤔
I really hope hellblasters get a buff in the next chapter approved. I have somehow ended up with 20+ of them, so if they could drop by a few points, I'd be very happy.
I play Blood Angels but have always wanted to run Ultramarines to have a shooting Space Marine force to play as well and I love Marneus and the Victrix Guard. This box has me very tempted to start a second Space Marine Chapter....
Question for you: if GW gave you one of each box set to build a tournament army, what chapter would build and which models would you take from each box?
I'm really hoping that RG and IF get some love in the new SM changes
I think I'm going to wait to see if these get a price drop. My store still has some Raven Guard and Mechanicum boxes, both of which I'd like if they were considerably cheaper. All the other boxes seemed to have sold out on the first day, and the only left over Sister's box got picked up just before I decided to get it.
For me, the best are imperial fists and raven guard, but for all the wrong reasons.
Which are the fact that I don't have basically anything from either of boxes due to that units being mostly useless, well expect for snipers and regular intercessors. I basically have everything from ultramarines, salamanders, white scars, might be a thinking of iron hands for dreadnoughts.
Salamander's is best for anyone not wanting to collect Salamanders
It’s also the absolute for anyone already collecting marines
I'll be picking up the Ultramarines. I've been playing them since '97, but I'm only just recently getting around to upgrading them to Primaris. As such I don't have either of the updated special characters. Between my six Marine armies, I'll find uses for all of those models.
Marneus Calgar actually is the reason for me not to get the Ultramarines box because I have an Imperium magazine subscription and will get him this way. However, he will only be released this way in April in my country, so I might try to get rid of him on Ebay as soon as the box drops. 🤔
I’m looking forward to the Dark Angels offering, but that Ultramarines box has me very tempted
I’m too busy building another army, but I really, really want to get the white scars one because I love the chapter and fast melee
I'm starting an Iron hands list and im hyped for the Boxset, though i hope i can get one before it sells out.
i had planned to buy 2x dark angels combat patrols but didnt like the double up of the chaplain and interceptors, the iron hands box including the same amount of marines, two redemptors, and two different great characters is really helpful for me since im running lost of dreads
If I was starting from scratch 1 of each of these boxes would definitely be of interest to bulk out a new force for Primaris.
Good morning Auspex!
As a Sally player with only one primaris unit, I have mixed feelings. Those upgrade sprues definitely add value to me, but it's just hard to get excited for 20 intercessors even if they would be useful
Salamanders for utility; Ultras for faction-specific characters; White Scars for rule of cool; Redemptors will surely lose out relative to other marine units in upcoming points changes. Ravens bring discounted las fusil eliminators!! Heavy Intercessors are still holding their value on 2nd hand market for now, despite a whopping 3 units discounted with Fists.
Exciting time to be a Marines player
They can not nerf Redemptors. Without it marines would be total useless or just horde army.
I was hoping to get the Imperial Fists to paint em as Dark Angels, but had to settle with Ravenguard for the same purpose.
Just bought Scions of Mcragge to use as a basis for my custom chapter. Pretty stoked honestly.
I would’ve like to see the iron hands box have a little more focus on some infantry, maybe a 5 man hell blaster squad or some heavy Eradicators like they have on the box art.
I want thank you for all your profi info. Thanks to you I start with warhammer :)
I like to pretend that with all the bikes and ATVs outpacing him, Khan is just sprinting everywhere yelling "Vroom! Vroom!"
You forgot Primaris Outriders aren't compatible with the White Scars upgrade sprue because they're ETB
ETB? 🤔
@@horuslupercal2385 Easy To Build.
@@darthvaderbutwayshittier7054 appreciate that. Worth knowing about the individual kits as I'm thinking about starting a White Scars army sometime soon 👍
Two boxes of intercessors in the lead up to Arks of Omen feels like a total trap, that kills the value of the Salamanders box, IMO.
Maybe I'm the odd one out, but the White Scars box seems by far the best to me, because it doesn't have any troops in it.
Great breakdown! Thanks as always!
i would get salamanders but have just started custodes so will wait until vulkan returns since hes my favourite character
Looking to start my own chapter..but can’t decide on who to branch from please any suggestions
For me, from the perspective of if I were starting that Chapter, I'd rank the boxes as Ultramarines > Iron Hands > Raven Guard > Imperial Fists > Salamanders > White Scars. People keep saying the Raven Guard one was a weird mix of units, but they're all Vanguard units, and the Eliminator squad in there is the multi-part one compared to the monopose ones in the Space Marines Combat Patrol. I think pairing it with that Combat Patrol is a pretty good way to start a Raven Guard army. The IF box is just more interesting than the Salamanders box, and that personally hurts to say because Salamanders is one of the Chapters I personally considering building. 20 Intercessors is just overkill and makes almost any other discount box feel worse because you already have 20 of them. 15 Heavy Intercessors is a lot of them, but getting them at a discount is great because they're so expensive, but you have the Aggressors as well. The White Scars box I just don't like. The Khan and the Chaplain on bike are cool, but you're better off getting the Outriders somewhere else, and the ATV is one of the stupidest looking units in the Primaris range.
I picked up the Raven Guard one before these were announced, got 30% off in a Boxing Day sale here in Canada. I wanted everything in the box except the Librarian, who I'll try to sell, and I'm still deciding if I want to try and sell the 2nd Invictor. I have no intention of playing as Raven Guard, but painting of Kayvan Shrike should be a fun project.
The RG box doesn't actually have the upgrade sprues, probably since they don't really work for the models in the box. There are transfer sheets though.
I agree the iron hands is best deal but the white scars is my favorite as the theme fits.
Salamanders Players are almost unamimous that this is a pants showing and we don't need 20 Intercessors we need:
1 - multiple Eradicators / Aggressors like the White Scars had multiple Outriders
2 - Primaris Tu'shan or Vulkan He'stat, cheaper Invictors with the Core keyword fielded in units of 1-3 (I know if wishes were Ponies)
3 - How come the Black Templars have Pyreblasters and we don't (Waaaa!)
4 - Would it kill GW to make Flamers better how come the Sisters have decent flamers and we dont? (etc etc etc)
Same situation with white scar bikes and reaven wing bikers. I call that GW-"Logick"
Yes, but what about people who are interested in starting a salamanders force? Seems pretty solid to me.
@@richarddixon1450 Too many Intercessors. Incursors better compliment nature of Salamanders tactics makes them slow as their best units are Gravis.
1x Primaris Vulkan (will settle for Adrax)
2x Incursors
1x Aggressors
2x Eradicators
1x Redemptor Dreadnought
That would be a great starter box set DESIGNED for Salamanders
I'm entering the WH 40k univers with the Salamanders box (Seem good to start and a good legion)
Put a deposit on the iron hands one. Brings my Redemptor dreadnought count to 4
I got one of the ravenguard boxes for $150 on ebay. My army project this year is an all phobos army so it works out well for me. But I can see why people don't want the box
On one hand I'd like the Ultramarines box because my Primaris force is Ultramarines, but it's 4th Company Ultramarines so Calgar wouldn't see much use as I already have Uriel Ventris to lead them. The Bladeguard, Victrix Honor Guard, Tigurius, and UM upgrade sprue would be nice, but I don't really need that many more Intercessors and I'm not sure I'd really want Hellblasters either even if my only Hellblasters are the five that came with Dark Imperium.
On the other hand the Imperial Fist box would be all new things for me as I have zero Heavy Intercessors or Aggressors, but then Tor Garradon and the IF sprue would be absolutely useless to me.
So I'll take the third option of simply continuing to build my Firstborne army of "Not Luna Wolves" using a mixture of old Space Marine kits and the new HH stuff.
GW should've included Roubute in the UM box as they did with the DG and TS's boxsets
Starting my Iron Hands army with that box. First Loyalist force I'll have played.
To the best of my knowledge, the Ultramarines box does not come with the upgrade sprue and only the regular space marines transfers (which are, of course, Ultramarines, too).
I looked at the article, but I didn't see a release date?
Looking forward to pick some cheaper Redemptors and Hellblasters off ebay
Honestly, outside of calgar and tigerius or whatever his name is, the ultramarine box is great for space wolves or black templars
GW really seems to think Standard Intercessors are way more durable than they actually are lol
The Ultramarines' box would be great if if it didn't have both Marneus and Tigirius; but it is their box so I can't say I'm surprised, even though they severely bloat the price of the contents.
Replace Tigirius with another squad and it could have been in the running for the top spot.
I won't be getting it though, since I'm already getting Marneus in the Imperium magazines and the Iron Hands would suit me better. Besides, I can make use of most of the upgrade sprue in kitbashes for Iron Warriors.
While the Iron Hands box is cool, it's a fairly similar deal to the Dark Angels Combat Patrol which I've already bought. The only one I've picked up out of these are the Imperial Fists for some Chonky Marines.
From experience, the white scar upgrade sprue is pointless on outriders due to how their sprues are made up. requires a lot of conversion to make them fit.
Been wantting to start a white scars army for the longest time however the price of the upgrade sprews put me off
I'm picking the firstborn Mk7 one with the 10 man tac squad, 5 man assault, 5 man dev, the captain and a rhino...God I miss the old days lol
Wonder if they are gonna do a box for the chapters they missed. The space wolves and the blood and dark angels
Those chapters already have a combat patrol, most of the boxes were for chapters (like white scars) that didn't have a faction-specific box
I've just recently started playing Warhammer 40k and played a crusade of nothing but Salamanders on Tabletop and to know that Salamanders are getting a box? I'm very happy.
How does the white scars one make sense? With the new army construction, can’t you only have 3 fast attacks?
The new (rumored) detachment rules now essentially allow you to take anything you want
The RG box doesn't have the upgrade sprue, just the transfers.
If I were ever to get into Space Marines, it would be Salamanders or preferably the White Scars. If not for the character on foot I would consider buying the box, perhaps even two. For now, I will rather save that money for the World Eaters!
Cant wait to see what the will do with non codex Marines
@auspex tactics, you said hellblasters are weaker in the meta, i think they are great for 15 shots at ap-3 s7 for only 165 points.........
I want the salamamders now!
I mean the moment you have either of the named ultramarines you kind of ''fucked out'' of getting the ultramarines box, imo. good starting box for ultramarines tho i guess. ironhands is probably what i'll get for my ultramarine army. easily get the named ironhand dude to fly as a another techmarine.
It's weird for me. The salamanders one seems the most objectively flat, but I've just started collecting space marines, Salamanders is my chosen chapter, and I haven't got many standard intercessors yet. So yeah, I may pick up the Salamander box even though I think it's the least interesting one.
I've heard that the Ultramarines box doesn't have the upgrade sprues has anyone actual looked in one?
So since we are ranking these, let me add one more ranking scale for it by combining the 3 ratings into an overall rating. The ratings each got is based on a scoring system of their place in each category (the score being 7 - their placement).
So. here are the overall results.
In Tied First place; Iron Hands and Ultramarines
In Tied Third Place; Salamanders and Raven Guard
In Fifth place; White Scars
In Sixth; Imperial Fists
Some personal Thoughts:
The Raven Guard box really isn't that bad all things considered. While the units may be considered more niche, Invictors are more hampered by their comical design than anything else imo.
The White Scars just really highlight how dense, thick and outright stupid the rules and model making team are about White Scars and not putting Korsarro on a bike. Shrike got a special exemption to get a jump pack, Khan could of got one for a bike. Heck, make his kit the Primaris Captain on bike kit with option for the Khan, instant slam dunk kit that sells out like hot cakes. The models however are solid barring Khan.
Salamanders just feels...odd...like they wanted a flame theme then realised they didn't have enough. I think this box would of been a real hit if it were 10 heavy intercessors instead of 20 normal ones.
Imperial Fist box is good. Just hurt by the fact that no-one plays Imperial Fists. What they going to do? Come out from cover and get me? Come on, get out from behind your walls! (This is a taunt, meant to infuriate an opponent and cause them to abandon reason).
Ultramarines I feel is decent but I mean...why? Its not bad if you need or want the characters but really does hurt the overall sale power of it.
Iron Hands are the Cooler Raven Guard box. Instead of Invictors, Redemptors. Instead of Reavers, Intercessors. Would even argue as you did mention from others, it works really well as an add on to anything else instead which I feel enhances its value.
For all of them though: the conversion parts for each unique chapter just sucks. While some are wanted, the only one people wanted was the salamanders for the Thunder hammer (which may help their boxes sale value) but if the box had those bits in there as an extra instead of taking the place of unit (which I feel they do), these would of sold much better.
Raven guard get a squad of Infiltrators/Incursors
Salamanders get a second squad of eradicators
Imperial Fists get a Hammerfall Bunker...haha I kid...you guys get a firestrike servo turret.
White Scars a Storm Speeder
Ultramarines some Inceptors
Iron Hands get...hmmm...screw it make it the best box: A third Redemptor!
Shouldn’t at least half of the intercessors in the salamanders box be infernus?
I still want Primaris Thunderwolf Cavalry😍
I disagree with you, Auspex - I think the Salamanders battleforce is fire. 🔥
White Scars one is probably leaving the warehouses the fastest.
How come? I'm new to the hobby, and I don't hear many good things about Intercessors.
@@jimmynicol7942 Oh, I’m just being punny - Salamanders tend to focus on flame-based weapons, while White Scars are noted for their speed.
Yeah lmao 20 intercessors is a bit overkill😂
@@Dryzark Ah lol, yeah, that went over my head
Salamanders box not having an apothecary is kinda wild to me. It's perfect in flavor and gameplay.
The fact that anyone ranked the White Scars below the Imperial Fists just shows there’s some sort of recency bias. The Fists one is great for starting a Gravis focused force and makes sense.
spend the summer and autumn building a space mongolian, bike heavy, fluff friendly force.
now this happens
FML
Is Korsarro supposed to run after the bikes on foot?
Nah, he's got armor heelies and has one of the boys tow him into battle.
If I had to chose I'd go for the Fists, gravis is aight.
The White Scars one is a meme
I don’t know why nobody talks about it, but there is no dark angels, space wolfes, blood angels and deathwatch big boxes
Really makes you think about future boxes
As much as I like seeing Iron Hands getting some love oof I hope this means I don't have to work too hard to grab the box. IH is my favorite chapter and I just like the box art 😅
I'm legit just kicking off a salamanders force and was so excited to see a box for it......I don't want 20 intercessors, that's the only thing I've bought.....and I would never want 20 anyway!
Actually I like the white scar one, but not for White scars. I always wanted a list like this for Death watch. Since the dex came out. (but I don't play marines, so I passed.)
Patrol det.
HQ;
Chaplain on bike
Troop:
2x Killteam Fortis (5 Intercessors 5 Outrider)
1 Kill Team Indomitor (5 Heavy intercessors and any heavy dudes to spice this up)
Elite: 2 x Primaris Apothecary (until the on bike version comes out)
Fast: 2 Invader ATV with multi melta
leaves around 550 pts free to add anything of choice in a 2k list.
So jeah for this style of list this box looks awesome. (I know, its not meta, but actually funny)
Maybe anyone feels inspired by this
The best way to play 40k is ignoring the meta, your dw list looks pretty fun to play
@@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandle jeah, I know. It would be fun.
But playing it I know, I would always be ask, why I play primaris, when they get none of the dw boni, like special ammunition.
When I first came around with this list in mind (~2years ago) all my friends already called it "cheesy" and as said actually I play diffrent armies (mainfaction admech, so actually I would have a reason to swap xD)
But jeah, I guess I'll stay with what I got. It's something like principels^^
But hey, if ppl think this is a bad box, I would say no, it is not. Just don't play it as a diffrent faction.
White scars really needs character on bike. So weird their only primaris character is on foot.
I think the White Scars box is an excellent own goal for showing how dumb not putting Khan on a bike was. Best thing about it.
Would be nice to see the DeathWatch get some love
I have so many firstborne and like 60 bikes that the only box I'd get if I really felt like it would probably be Ultramarines just for more Primaris because F the Primaris.
One thing that can't be overstated is that these boxes shouldn't be looked at in a vacuum. Example; Look at mixing and matching them. Combine the iron hands one with any of the other boxes and the army is very solid.
The problem is the unique chapter characters. You'd have to kitbash or convert a number of the models.
@@brianhall4182 converting is a big part of the hobby. Personally, my favorite part
The salamanders box should've swapped 10 intercessors for 3 more aggressors. That would've been a fluffier salamanders box + still a good box to beef up other chapters.
They all look good
Iron hands is similar to getting 2x the dark angels combat patrol
If you buy the Ultramarines box and the Iron Hands one, you've basically got an extremely solid army
Im waiting for the black templar box
Not going to happen. These were tied to chapters without a 9th supplement
Shocked Sallies were so high in popular vote. As a Salamanders player I was very disappointed in the box. 20 intercessors is awful and has basically no synergy with our rules/ secondaries
well all of these boxes are for those who want to start playing that chapter, so not for those who already play it.
had i had these boxes ½ year ago as i started getting my Iron Hands army i would have 100% gotten that box.
BUT now as i got both HQ, 20 Intercessors, and one of the Dreadnaughts i will skip the box.
and for any other player that already play Marines getting 10-20 intercessors is a bit of a turn of.
Is it wrong to have bought the salamanders box solely for displaying behind my army?
