  • On the episode we learn the process of ‘aging’ cast Aluminium. The steps are simple - and we only use one household product. It was a lot of fun to see the creation come to life. Puts a lot of depth into the cast and looks great- almost look’s magnesium!

Haha this is such a niche topic but I absolutely loved it. The dedication to making things look properly aged to the vehicle is such an unappreciated art.
My world is original paint ‘patina’ 60-70’s trucks modified and modernized enough daily drivers. I absolutely loathe the jarring contrast of old and new bits, so really really like the results y’all got here!

Definitely raise EVERYTHING! I'm 6'4" and all the benches, tables, everything I make is 1 metre high. (yeah, I'm old, I still use feet and inches for some things haha!) The old 'rule of thumb' was that your vice should be at elbow height, meaning you stand at the vice and put your forearm flat straight across it. This will help your back.

Yes my friends you are performing a redox reaction. your manifolds etc. are being oxidized and the the bronze is also being oxidized. the bronze is then plating out onto the manifolds. this color change should be permanent. I am a chemical engineer and it is great seeing complex chemistry at an everyday level...

I find this perplexing. Yet I understand your perspective. A short while back another channel did the exact opposite. The gentleman took an old cylinder head and polished it to a show quality finish. I could be wrong. He had roughly 80 hours into it. I enjoy your content.

The Faux magnesium look is cool Jordan and low cost as well, will have to remember that one for future use, not sure if the beeswax will last long once the heads get hot but looks good. Cheers Greg

    Great job Jordan.
I wonder if the Aldi oxy action cleaner will work at half the cost. of the Vanish.
looks great and I suspect some level of electrolysis might be in play with that Bronze.
I have seen people heat steel Nuts and Bolts and then use a Brass wire brush to put a brassy sheen on the steel , wonder if the Brass in the Bronze is migrating because of the salts in the hot water.
Interesting finish to say the least.

Interesting! I’ve been collecting stuff for an 48 Anglia a pho old gasser. Mag wheels are so expensive. Maybe if I had aluminum wheels this process would work. You know how long it would keep color

    • @johnkoury1116
      @johnkoury1116 10 місяців тому +1

I am a chemical engineer and what is being done is a redox reaction. Something is being oxidized and something is being reduced. The color should be permanent.

put everything on big castors to help raise things up. Tall people suffer from bad backs and hips cause everything is to low. I have a new sonic cleaner that does the same thing to aluminum using simple green. I was told its not the detergent. Its the heat that makes them darker.

electrolyzes ..... Electrolysis is the process of using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. This reaction takes place in a unit called an electrolyser. must be worth connecting bronze and ally to a car battery :) .... no clue just a guess :)

A very weak Caustic solution will grey/blacken Aluminium in the same way. Not too much Caustic or all threads etc. will disappear!😂

well for the one's that say you just fuck the duck , well that maybe but how may times do you find a rare set of heads , only to realizing they were wall hangers because one is damaged beyond repair , or one in one barn on the east side of town that that's been painted red and a year later the other on the othe side of town thats been polished how do match them but still keep the old school looks like you did it .👍

You need to put your blast cabinet up on something, bending over like that for a long time will lead to issues. I built a riser that has casters so I can stand up fully and move it easily. Love what you do but don't suffer unnecessarily for it.
