    As a French , Lucie’s attitude crack me up everytime. She’s so French 😂

    • @willgpb_

      I would argue though that Luffy is famous because otakus usually watch One Piece on the internet, but not dubbed on TV, which makes things even harder for us to know how to pronounce his name. Of course, we now have the Netflix live-action series that's it. Charmander is the only one out of all of those who's popular and people know the name in Brazilian Portuguese

    This is real, in France animation is huge. It's the second consumer of animation and manga (importation) behind Japan since a few years . Especially nowadays.
    During 2022 the government offered a "cultural pass" check for people between 15 y.o to 18 y.o . Every youngsters (even the ones not going to school) could get it. 15 y.o = 20€ / 16 & 17 y.o = 30€ and when you're 18 you get 300€ to spend for 2 years. It is usable on books, cinema, concert, theater, etc to encourage cultural activities after pandemic.
    The bilan was : mainly (hugely) spend into mangas. It went into the news.
    One book out of seven bought in France is a manga.

    • @huoresedits
      @huoresedits 10 місяців тому +1

    • @Cloud.Doppelganger
      @Cloud.Doppelganger 9 місяців тому +2

      @@simondeep You're right. It is also kind of big. This is the third world exporter of animation behind Japan and the United States.
      Cartoons, full length animation film, animation without dialogue, short-movie, etc.
      Like Totally Spies, Miraculous, Code Lyoko, Rabbids invasion, Despicable me (american but created in french studio), Arcane (same), Oggy and the cockroaches, and more for sure but I don't know which cartoons are exported or works well. Sometimes a cartoon doesn't do well domestically but is thriving elsewhere like South America.
      I was more focused on the "consumer aspect".

    I love the fact that Julia pointed out that she expected some actual know-around-the-world names. Usually every single episode of World Friends is completely void of criticism within the video and it's just always positive feedback. If it wasn't for the internet and being exposed to japanese culture, I would have absolutely zero idea who Doraemon or MyMelody are. My country does not have these shows/characters at ALL. There's SOOOO much to pick from that's easily known everywhere but really? Only Pokemon and One Piece made it? (And Kirby, but he isn't from an Anime or animation in general)

And in some other areas like Catalonia we LOVE our animes like Inuyasha, Card Captor Sakura, Detective Conan, Utena (my pfp), Keroro, Ranma, Evangelion, Magical DoReMi... the local broadcast channels went crazy during the late 90s and early 00s translating animes into the co-official Spain's lenguages.

      Yes, true. In Spain:
      Dragon ball was called "bola de Dragón", and Dragon ball Z was called exactly equal (Dragon ball Z) or translating de first part, so Bola de Dragón Z, but keep in mind the letter Z is pronounced like in España, so
      "Captain Tsubasa" was called "Oliver y Benji", because the main characters were Oliver Atom and Benji Price. I don't know why they have english names instead of the original japanese ones, but that was the case.
      "Saint Seiya" was called "Caballeros del Zodiaco" (Knignts of the Zodiac), and was very popular in it's moment.

Many of these girls didn’t know much about these characters either but at least put in some effort. In Portugal they say "DIA" like spanish, but today in Brazil we usually say "DJIA".
    However, some people in Northeast pronounce Di/Ti like in Portugal.

    In GERMANY 🇩🇪, it's a bit different and be like: Glumanda (Gloo Mun Dah), Kirby (Curby), Shin Chan (Shinn Chuhn), My Melody, Doraemon (Dor Uh Amon), Anpanman and Monkey D. Ruffy or solely RUFFY (Ruh Fee). A very interesting conversation to me as an Otaku❣️😉

      Some of them don't even exist nor have any exposure in Germany though. So it's basicly just thinking about how germans would pronounce them if they would exist here in our country.
      Also, I don't think people care how it's pronounced if it's not in the video.

    Pokemon anime that is not dubbed is super. fire+lizard? Genius. I was learning Japanese from reading comics like Cray Shin Chan. The book would even transliterate the Kanji characters and then translate to English. Luffy sounds like doofie when I hear One Piece in Japanese. Used to go to Kaisuko fansub for the episodes. Code Lyoko imho is the best anime that is from France. And France is the second largest consumers of manga, after Japan.

      Sometimes the producer doesn't really reveal to the guests beforehand what topic they are gonna shoot about. Even if they do, the guests might not be the best representatives in everything because people do have different hobbies, interests and strengths. It's impossible for them to be well-aware of everything in the world. She already made it clear that Japanese anime has never been her cup of tea and she felt bad for not knowing them.
