Hopefully I'll find something good for the Sauber the Formula, but unfortunately those more distinct one-off cars are the hardest ones to get right.

That F1 sounds almost identical to what it sounds like irl. It's missing that proper rasping noise and the gurgling on let-off, but you can CLEARLY tell that it sounds alike.

XJR-9 = Pagani V12 787B = already accurate, just needs a little refining GT-One = McLaren flat plane turbo V8 Sauber C9 = deep rumbling crossplane V8 Formula GT = V10 F1 (the car is based on a 2004 V10 F1)
This is amazing, despite being remastered the sounds still sound extremely Gran Turismo-like. I don't know how you did it, but you did an amazing job. I BEG of you to NEVER get rid of the signature Gran Turismo 4 transmission whine in any future releases, by the way!
Credit goes to the game devs who actually made these sounds, though. I didn't record any cars, I just figured out the best recordings from other games, made a tool to convert them to GT4, and slapped the two together.
@@TheAdmiester For it all coming from recordings and other games, its rather absurd how well it easily fits into the game. You'd be hard pressed to hear it sound out of place with the recordings that PD did themselves in terms of how the sounds are played.
I got the references in some of the track choices for some cars, like the SLR at Nürburgring (Mission 34), Camaro at Seattle (GT3 A-7 License), Subaru Imprezas at Tsukuba (Mission 30), etc.
GT2 sounds can be dropped directly into GT4 and will work just fine if you rename them to the correct car's sound ID. If you want to try out any GT2 sounds then you should be able to do so with tools that are already available.
Is there an emoji for pained laughter? 😅 M3 GTR would be nice to get accurate but it's probably gonna be the hardest car to get right - I think everyone will be secretly expecting the NFS MW sound, but I want to do the real thing, *but* I don't know of any sources of the real thing.

Short answer: 100 or 110KB Long answer: We don't really know, because GT4 seems to actually do a bit of dynamic allocation for sounds on runtime (credit to Nenkai for digging into it a little). Sounds of up to 200KB (same size as GT6) don't crash the game, but if you're in a race with AI and multiple cars are using the bloated sound, you'll hear some start to play incorrect sounds like tires squealing and rumble strips as part of their engine. Because of all that, and the fact that no vanilla sound exceeds 100KB (IIRC), I'm treating GT4 the same as Submaniac treats GT2, and considering 100-110ish to be our limit.
@@TheAdmiester So the mix of sounds will be at play for this. Speaking of sounds, how are the NA cars bolted on turbos? I remembered when a guy on the server talked about those NA cars with turbo installed have no sounds. I sent a rar file to him and now I have no communication as I've locked my account behind with no backup code to help. It's just copy a file from the 'engine' folder and paste to the 'turbo' folder, a total of 6 files there, or is it? I forgot.
@@KikuraKun The file structure is basically that, yeah. Four levels (normal, sports, semi-race, race) of exhausts for both turbo and NA, from 0-3. If you want to make an NA sound work for a hacked turbo car then you need to copy the relevant files from normal0 to turbo0, normal1 to turbo1, etc. Engine is, as the name says, for the engine side, as opposed to the exhaust. Naturally I'll test my mod as best as I can to make sure I haven't accidentally missed an interchangable sound, like a new NA sound that I made breaking because a car that uses it has a turbo mod available.

what is your source for sounds? some of these cars like impreza and rx8 sound like underground 2 i'd suggest enthusia and kaido racer 2 or txr3 (if you can find a way to extract sounds from either of these), asseto corsa and maybe forza?
GC8 Impreza is from the same car in GT Sport, GD Impreza and the RX-8 are from older Forzas. Enthusia can be extracted but I don't think it preserves the RPM labels for each sound loop so they would have to be guessed.
They'll be releasing as part of a general GT4 overhaul mod, it'll work on PCSX2 (where I currently play it) and I'm hoping it'll work on real PS2s too.

@@mclarenf1gtr99 Sequential dogbox transmission sounds like that, majority don't. It makes plenty of sense to disable it, especially for road cars with transmission upgrades in a 2005 game

I replaced GT4 engine sounds to GT3-GTC-GT4P engine sounds via GT3VOLEXTRACTOR and GT4FS through the sound folder and its subfolders; returning the sounds of the engine of the videogames GT3, GTC, GT4 Prologue to GT4 since the truth was they put horrible sounds in that game and recovering the sounds of those cars that were from GT3 to GT4P to GT4 and I feel happy for that modification

As an obsessive car noise fan, this is a blessing. My favourite game getting the best fix it ever needed. Now i'm interested as what you could source as a 20B. The only 20B sound that i know of in a racing game is a mod: ua-cam.com/video/2ndpvn1noy0/v-deo.html And the sound source is this: ua-cam.com/video/qSZ5BnF1CV8/v-deo.html Which would make me ask you, could you take someone's YT video of a 20B, and use that as a sample? I know, i know, i'ts compressed audio, and the microphone from a camera is a horrible way to capture clean audio. But you have to admit, the Assetto Corsa 20B sound mod i quite on point!
The only 3 rotor cars in GT are the RE Asparadrink RX-7 and one or two of the fictional cars IIRC. For those in GT6 I used a UA-cam vid but was never too happy with the outcome. Horizon 5 has a good 3 rotor sound on the drift RX-8 that might be usable if recorded, dunno.
Most likely just going to be the PGR 4 sound of the Zonda F. The variants of the Zonda in GT4 were the C12, C12S, and C12 7.3, before any of the more shouty screamy variants came along - from what I can find online, stock examples seem to have that smooth, throaty V12 note rather than anything too racecar like.
I've done about half (320 or so) which is around 100 unique sounds so far, obviously helped a lot by the fact that GT4 has a lot of cars that share engines in real life. The sounds are converted from other games so I don't have to go through the trouble of recording them myself, but the format for GT4 is awkward to work with so it still is a lot of work to do so many.

@@TheAdmiester ah. And how will it be applied to the real game? 8 mb memorycard would definitely wont cut it and many users dont have the first gen ps2 either so hdd reliability is also almost out the window. Or could it be loaded via usb-stick?
Basically most GT upgrades sounded bad in my opinion, so upgrades will sound the same as stock unless it's a particularly well known engine (e.g. RB26) where I can get good samples for different levels.

Nah, I've never tried them in Cheat Engine, only ever in the actual data.

They all are, the F1 GTR in particular is taken from GT Sport's 1995 F1 GTR.
