My father introduced me to two game shows at a very early age when I was still in my crib. This was one of them. (The other was Concentration)

The 1970s had the best game shows.

This version was so much better than the 1986 one hosted by David Sparks.

This show IS like Scrabble with the humorous clues for the words.

Definitely inspired by Scrabble board game, yet The Cross Wits preceded Scrabble game show. Another similar show from same era was Now You See It, hosted by Concentration's Jack Narz

Scrabble (The Game show) came AFTER Cross-Wits, so it's not a rip-off.

Actually, this is from the 1979-80 season (the final)-as evidenced by the re-done set and the remixed theme music.

I'm surprised announcer Steve Bishop didn't end up on many other game shows in the 80's. He did sound experienced. Although, last I checked, he was the voiceover of Judge Judy.

His name is Jerry Bishop, not Steve Bishop. In addition to "Judge Judy", he also announced various promos on the Disney Channel during the 1980's.

Yea, Jerry Bishop. I went to school with an old friend named Steve Bishop. I think another announcer who briefly called some game shows, Brian Cummins, also did similar work for Disney.

And Brian Cummings' voice can be heard in promos for Family Feud (Combs version), Catch Phrase, Fun House (which he also announced its pilot), and Truth or Consequences (1987 version) as well.

Brian was a trip the one year he announced and helped Monty on The All-New Let's Make a Deal.

Rochelle was "The (New) $25,000 Pyramid's" very first $25,000 winner! She won with "Trapper John M.D.'s" Charlie Siebert! :-)

"Scrabble" was not a rip-off. The board game pre-dates this by some 31 years.
