  • Crappie and bluegill fishing from the bank in spring time can be so much fun, especially when you are catching big crappie and bluegill! Today I am fishing with a gulp minnow and a trout magnet jig head under a float. After catching a steady amount of bluegill, all of a sudden I catch a monster 12.5 inch crappie! I also catch a black nosed crappie as well! It was a great day of spring fishing from the bank, despite the water being a little on the cold side. I am always happy when I can catch both big bluegill and crappie.

The Blacknose crappie is a black crappie which displays a dark line from its nose to the middle of its back and all the way to its tail; they are found in 14 states but were first reported in Arkansas.
The black stripe is the result of a recessive gene, which breeds true when using black stripe brooders, in 1995 the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife stocked 295,000 four inch Blacknose crappie in Dale Hollow, at that time, it was a good way to examine reproduction rates since they were easy to tell apart from native fish.
Since then, the Blacknose has been an annual stocking event and has become a very popular fish. ...

That gulp minnow is killer for trout. Caught a bunch over 16 inches on it the other day. Typically just use a regular lead head jig with 2.5 inch minnow. Take it with me whenever I go trout fishing.
