    Great video! For anyone who wonders these two examples are called dimetric. Then you also have trimetric in which all of the angles are different

    awesome video dude. I just bought asesprite today and am testing out diffferent tilemap variations and this helps a ton with understanding how they work. You got a new sub :)

    As someone whose drawing skills is limited to stick figures this is the best tutorial i have watched so far. Any tips for shading and highligiting? my drawings does seem to have depth but colours seems slighly off or not as blended.

      thanks so much! as far as shading and highlights go, i’ve always found with pixel art or any kind of cell shading that more contrast in your colors (even shades and highlights) tends to look better. sometimes people assume that you need to use a similar but slightly darker tones to shade your art, but i think using more varied colors makes things really pop! for example, instead of shading an orange ball with a darker orange, use a red or purple! hope this makes sense :)

      also worth noting that you can shift your colors depending on what you need. so when you want a darker shade, shift towards the cool colors like blue or purple. if you want to highlight, shift towards warm colors like yellow or orange

    Dude, this is crazy! Like my brain was actually scratching itself. Do you think this would work in RPG Maker?

    • @apoxfox
      @apoxfox  2 місяці тому

      It’s definitely possible in RPG Maker, but I also have a feeling it would be pretty difficult to pull off. You’ll probably need to create your own isometric system in code to support it unfortunately

      Isometric is a very strange thing with RPG Maker & the general consensus is to just avoid it because of how the grid works Regardless of MV, MZ etc… There is a plug-in for isometric projects but last I checked it wasn’t fully functional… However, you might be able to get away with just making whatever map art you want first & then add the game logic + collision detection around it all 🤷‍♂️

    Hey, I found your channel because I want to make my first game in this style, and which canvas size should I use for isometric art, or what size are you using for isometric? I don’t know whether to use 16x16 or 256x256. I’m very new to pixel art and isometric art; I just started this month with pixel art in this style. I’ve made some pixel art before, but it was for a Minecraft texture pack, and the things I made weren’t very big or complicated. And for the game i wont some texture to be more detailed.

      These isometric block tiles I made are 32x32. Start with one block and build everything else around that. Hope this helps

    My main worry about making a 2D isometric game is creating all the artwork, then finding out the grid is set at a slightly different angle and I have to redraw everything. Or do I set the grid to my artwork? How do I know what height/width, ange etc to draw at?! Thank you!

    • @apoxfox
      @apoxfox  12 днів тому +1

      You can set the grid to your artwork :) I always recommend making a simple test tileset to see if it works in the game engine, just make plain old tiles with no details to see if everything matches up and then you can use that as a template later!
