  • Part 1 of my conversation with the great horror writer Adam Nevill. We discuss his new book, All the Fiends of Hell. We touch on other topics such as: the ups and downs of the publishing industry, starting his own publishing house, surviving lockdown, nature, the end of the world, H.G. Wells, his earliest childhood memories, and the fear of gravity. #booktube #reading #books #horror #author #publishing #horrortube #interview #writing

      @@Michael_Wertenberg you're producing great content from the heart which, incidentally, is also what I learned about Adam Neville. He's a horror fan living his dream :-)

    My favourite British horror author. I remember asking him on a thread if he'd ever consider releasing a book with all his short stories as I'd spent a small fortune hunting down magazines & anthology books just to read his short stories. I was so relieved when he then self-published two anthology books in Hasty for the Dark and Some will not Sleep. I've since collected all his Ritual publication hardbacks which are incredible quality with amazing artwork. I recommend his books all the time. The 'next Stephen King' gets bandied about all the time at new horror authors but I'd crown Nevill with the 'new James Herbert' who was the only horror author prior to his death to outsell King in the UK. It's great when I see horror readers discovering his work and long may it continue.

    Great interview. Adam Nevill: I recently downloaded 2 of his books on my Kindle (Before You Wake/Before you Sleep) so I'll try to get to that soon.
    I'm currently reading Same Bed Different Dreams by Ed Park (Great so far).
    The Trials of Empire by Richard Swan instantly bypasses the TBR (Best trilogy ever and I haven't completed it).
    This channel: always a treat.

    Adam Nevill and Stephanie Ellis are my two favorite folk horror authors. Adam's book, Cunning Folk, was so terrifying! The Vessel creeped me out and lives rent free in my head. Thank you for the interview!

    Awesome interview, I'm so happy you were able to do this with him. Adam is one of my favorite authors to some of my favorite books. You can really tell how much work he puts into every single word, which are carefully chosen, as if they are a syringe in which to inject you into his stories, characters, and settings. I can't put his novels down, yet I'm afraid to finish them. Michael, your review of The Reddening was what brought me to Adam and have never gone back, so thank you.

    Yes! Forever Autumn by the Moody Blues is on that LP War of the Worlds. I had that LP. Check out the song on UA-cam. Awesome interview. I was scrolling Amazon looking at Mr. Neville's books but when I decide to buy one I will order from his website? I will check that out but first I will watch you video of his works. Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to the next segment.

    Loved the book. Broke my heart so often. And the cover is great. I truly hate what's become of horror covers these days. They don't communicate horror at all.

    • @Michael_Wertenberg

      I'm with you 100%. We are in an age of the sanitization of horror in the big publishing houses. Horror must not be horror; it must not even look like horror; yet we must exploit established horror tropes to appeal to readers of the new not-horror horror.

    Does anyone know if Adam plans on continuing with the story of all the fiends of hell? In the future, another point of view at the same time or maybe the people that were in the space stations at that time. I loved this book 😂 I want more

    • @Michael_Wertenberg
      @Michael_Wertenberg  Місяць тому +1

      It's true there are a lot of great concepts and characters to explore in this world he has created. I can't speak for Adam, but I did ask him once (I don't remember if it's in this series of conversations or not) if he would ever consider writing a sequel to my favourite book of his, The Reddening, and he told me he isn't too keen on writing sequels, though I also have a vague memory of him also telling me that he's working on a sequel to that book. So, I guess I'm having a hard time distinguishing between actual memories and my imagination or wishful thinking. Not very helpful to your question, I realize. Thus far, he hasn't written a sequel yet. But as long as he keeps writing and keeps putting out great books, I'm perfectly happy with that. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm!

      @@Michael_Wertenberg What? I'm actually reading The Reddening 😅💪 I like It so far although I just read about 20 pages, I will keep going tonight. About the fiends of hell I think he just created a very good concept of a world. But I can see why he might want to keep It misterious as It is instead of exploring more. He talks about this in his author notes.
      Already waiting to know what he will bring us next
