Scarlett Solo with 2 Headphones - How to use your audio interface monitor/line outs with a headphone

- Your Scarlett Solo, RME Babyface Pro or other audio interface has probably more than just one headphone out! In this video I show you, how you can use your monitor or line outputs of your audio interface to power one or more headphones additionally to the dedicated output of the interface itself.
I´ve tested it with the Focusrite Scarlett Solo (3rd gen) , the 18i20 (1st gen) and also the RME Babyface Pro and all Outputs could produce a signal loudness, that is more than loud enough to record vocals or drums.

You know the situation:
You and your friend or client want to record vocals or drums or so on. But you want to have independent headphone mixes or volumes at least. Until recently I thought that small Interfaces like the Focusrite Solo or RME Babyface Pro are not capable of running two headphones at the same time but I was wrong! It totally works and depending on the Interface and Routing Options, you can also run two or individual headphone mixes at once! Recording vocals or drums has become way easier now!
I really hope that this audio tip/hack helps you, creating more music and get better at producing it aswell as maybe expand your career via your homestudio!

With a mac computer, you are able to make your own "audio device". So for example you can use the interface output and the headphone jack of your mac. Tadada 2 outs aswell. AMen bussi
Awesome! Didn‘t knew that 😁
How
Would you break down how you got this to work for me? Would be greatly appreciated!
How???
that way you are using mobo dac and opamps
It might be because I’m high but man I really like how you did this video. For a small channel(numbers don’t mean anything though) I love the way you explain things
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS 4 SO LONG!!!
Omg mate you fixed my problem. My headphones weren’t registering through the front microphone input, but it works through the line output. Thank you sm! Was troubleshooting for hours trying to figure it out.
THIS IS JUST GREAT MAN!!! THANK YOU WORGRAM!!
Thanks dude for the tuturial
You deserve more viewers !!! OMG
Love the new intro! 😍
Thank you! :)
Nice video bro!
thanks this was very helpful :)
nice thank you! helped me out 🙏🏼💪🏼
Thanks! Appreciate this🙇
Great video! What would be the practical use for this? Instead of buying a headphone splitter?
YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!
Thanks!
Thanks for your help. Kompliment fürs gute Englisch. Grüße aus RLP
Well done 👍. This video is really helpful. But I have a question!!!! I use Scarlett solo 3rd gen. Is there a way to control the monitor volume without affecting headset volume in case of recording?
Speaker out usually have separate and better DAC and amplification as well, so its a double win, just keep your cables short
Aaah good to know that! :)
Scarlett is amazing! Great sound! I have a scarlett 6i6 and Clarett 4pre thunderbolt. Focusrite makes amazing stuff.
No, sound is congested, warm, dark, lacks stage depth, surface detail, i can go on and on, its terrible compared to more serious companies like Tc electronic
@@frog382 That's why there's air buttons if you ever used one and you'll get no stage depth with mono signal even with the most expensive interface
@@clickbaitpro I dont understand you, there is air button that is probably a filter that boosts some frequencies, like those that SSL 2 and 2+ have... And those are excellent interfaces, far better sound than focusrite, but i was just saying 2i2 sounds dull and bad compared to some others like SSL, RME or Audient even...
Appreciate this sm 🤧, but I just wanted to know, what are the names of the adapters you used in the video?
I didn't see him plug 2 headphones in. I'm guessing you need some kind of spliter ?
Yooooo.. thankssssssssss !
Glad to have helped you! :)
but the monitors output wouldn't be amplified right ? in other terms, Can you connect a headset that requries an amplifier and get good audio quality/loudness as if you connected it to the output jack? (specifically talking about scarlet 2i2 gen3) thanks.
I discovered this just weeks ago and it's amazing!! And in the focusrite control app you can give every pair of headset a different mix :) I use the scarlette 18:20.
Could you name what are the two cables that you used to do this
Ive ordered a y cable frm guitar center and use it with trs adapters, gonna see how this goes
Is there a way to control the volume on each headphone? Or is the main wheel knob the only sort of control for volume for the both? As one pair is louder than the other. Thank you
yes, you can control it all in the focusrite control app
A better option is trs to 3.5 adapter to save a whole adapter but I love the concept
Went to buy the cord and it had $40 shipping, crazy! Any alternatives?
Great video , is it also possible to just buy a double headphone jack cable ? Would it still work ?
Jep it would :) thanks!
Yes but You can only have one mix to both people
danke für s zeigen habe das problem bekomme meine E-Gitarre nicht zum laufen aufen pc
If you have monitors just plug into the headphone jack on that with your second pair and the other one running through the interface. 1
Hey is it possible to use two headphones with output AND input? In trying to do reaction videos but I want to be able to hear and also record audio through both headphones at the same time. I’m kinda confused on how I would get this to work. I tried a splitter but that only works for output sound
Do you have Headsets or how should the headphones record audio?
If you would want to record the audio you are reacting to + you +1 speaking you would use something Like OBS to record your video feed with system audio and a microphone to record your voice and put that into obs as an extra audio channel.
Say I have an audio interface/microphone on my Mac, can I use 1/4" line out to 1/4" line in to a different audio interface connected to my PC? That way my Mac's microphone also becomes my PC's microphone.
Yes you can do that :)
And if you connect to the Scarlet's line outputs 2 Ts 1/4" to 1 Trs 1/4 then could you plug another headphone?
What I'm trying to figure out. I think a splitter
Can I use one pair of headphones using this method and plug another into the jack in the front so that audio goes out both outputs?
Yes! :)
Can anybody recommend any other cheaper or smaller substitute of audio interface to power headphones-Beyerdynamic 770pro - 80ohms. It works all right with my mac, but I would like to have louder, richier sound. Thanks in advance.
hey so im having an issue and would appreciate any help. I am currently having issues hearing anything through my studio headphones. I am using a focusrite scarlett solo, I want to hear the beat and vocals as Im recording, but the audio is only going out to my monitors. Also, it seems as ableton is not detecting my headset, please help as they are brand new and should be working. thanks ahead of time.
You‘ve put your headphones straight in the audio interface right and not via usb or smth else?
Your monitors too?
Also make sure to have selected the right Asio Driver as Audio Source in ableton (Focusrite UsB Asio or smth.)
So how would this exactly work. Would both users be able to hear the same audio, even during live recording? As I want to mix and have someone record audio so I can hear it. Please get back to me thanks.
Hey, it‘s exactly as you describe it :)
Great vídeo Man. Do you know if its possible to have a good audio in Scarlett Solo using a 32 ohms earfone??
Jep, should be good :) higher values like 80 or 250 ohms would be better tho.
how can i separate the studio mornitors and headphones playing when i recording, cuz everytime i record vox i have to turn my speakers off. i think its really hurt my bottons lol.. so do i have to get a mackie bigknob? in fact im regret that i didnt doing my research carefully, i should get a 2i2 nor solo 3rd gen.. i really need some help guys, plz.
Hey, thats the main problem with the scarlett solo. With the 2i2 you don‘t have that problem.
Yes a Mackie Bigknob would also help :)
Hi, does this works for live recording? And how is the latency?
Jep it does and depends. If you use direct monitoring than zero latency, or the latency you have with the buffersize (16,32 etc.) chosen :)
@@Worgram alright thank you✌🔥
Question for anyone who may have an answer. I have a Scarlett Solo, however i do not have studio headphones with the mono or 1/4 TRS jack. My headphones only have the 3.5mm like most regular headphones. So I bought a couple of adapters to go from 3.5mm to 1/4 but I still get no audio out. Does it work for anyone else with an adapter or do i need to invest in some studio headphones that already have the 1/4 so i dont have to use an adapter?
Should work with a stereo 6,3mm trs adapter to 3,5mm trs
Don't bother, just use 3.5mm male to dual 3.5mm female adapter
I just use a Male Stereo to 2 Female Stereo Y Splitter Cable and just plug it in at the front😁
I’m trying to figure out how to use my headset on my work i take calls on, and hear audio on my …gaming pc… all in one headset. I’ve tried some crafty shit including a y splitter, but no success. Any ideas? I have a 2i2 for music stuff, so I’m considering trying that..
Try voicemeteer for that. Is it usb or trrs?
@@Worgram my work computer’s an iMac. The Scarlett 2i2 takes TRS in/out and technically I can have it connected to one computer via USB for in/out.
@@justinTime077 oh thats good for routing (mac) and I meant your headset regarding usb/trrs :)
What do you exactly want to accomplish with your equipment
what’s that cord called that has the two female ends?
It‘s a double sided stereo adapter
I really want to use my laptop/Scarlett without monitors and only connect my 1/4 inch headphones. I'll use it as a portable amp when I travel. How can I do this? My monitors are huge and I don't want to lug them around. I can never get sound in the headphones if the monitors aren't connected. The program can't comprehend it or something...What am I missing?
You should be able to just plug in the headphones in the monitor in of the scarlett and be good to go. Are your monitors also connected to the scarlett or via usb or smth?
@@Worgram
The monitors are connected via TRS cables into the back of my Scarlett. My headphones can be connected and sound comes in fine. If I don't connect the monitors and attempt only listening via headphones, Reaper gives me sort of error. I'll try again and post what it says. I'll try connecting them into "Monitor in" instead of the headphone port.
@@IWearShaqs That doesn´t make any sense regarding reaper error :D As it doesn´t matter for reaper which audio output of your interface outputs signal. weird.
I cannot find the cables to do this! I really need to find a way to do this please help with links
Where are you located? Europe or outside of it?

So can I use a 250 ohm headphone with the focusrite solo?
Yes! I used my dt 1770 for this(250ohm) and they were loud enough :)
@@Worgram thank you, the video was helpful!
Can this be done on the behringer um2?
I dont think so as cinch is for hifi systems and way quieter than an normal line out.
is there any type of latency or is it all good
No Latency you can feel if buffersize is set correctly :)
Is it possible to listen through a USB headset in any way possible?
unfortunately not that I know
Or buy a $3 audio splitter~
Exactly my thoughts too
