Avocado lovers, take note. Julie Frink, the avocado collection curator at UCR, says, "Hass is pronounced like ass." Not like Hoss Cartwright ("Bonanza"). She says first she had to get people to spell it right and then to pronounce it right! She knew the Hass family and saw the original tree before it died. Love your collection, man--great varieties! (By the way, Greg Alder says H-ass, too.)
Amazing Avocado trees you got👍 We love avocado reed our top flavour😊 We have 22 trees avocado in ground 😁that how we are love avocado 🥑 😊 Like your video 👍 Thanks for sharing 👍
We just finally got to try a reed, they had them at the store. Lots of flavor. We are going to add another reed tree. Subbed your channel so I cant watch your growth too!
That is my favorite! I know & realize that there are and can be better ones out there but I like the fine flavors of Fuerte probably because I grew up on them.
Abundant growth in that forest. Are you using alley cropping or other combinations to feed your soil? How are you increasing/balancing the nutrients in the soil for such excellent growth? Thanks for the updates.
Yes thats the same Reed that was planted in february 2021 along with the Satsuma Mandarin and Dwarf Mulberry. I dont fertilize my avocados at all. The only thing they get is whatever might be in the greywater.
Good to see your Avo trees coming along. I remember watching an older video on them. I think you told me in previous comment you’re in SLO county? I grow avos in Vista and San Jose. In both locales Hass can be harvested starting February, Fuerte starting around Thanksgiving, and Reed around 4th of July. Do you mind me asking how many acres is your homestead? My vista place (parents) is 3 acres - and mine in San Jose is 1 acre. Looks like you have a lot of space. INMHO you may want to plant more. I find that it’s good to have at least 2-3 of each variety bc the trees can and will have “off years” bc all those varieties will eventually alternate bear sometimes. There is sort of an economy of scale of avos. Greg Alder (who I know very well as well). Has about 30 trees. I have about 60 spread between both properties with 2/3 of them in San Jose and 1/3 in Vista. Greg reccomends min 6 Trees - 2 Hass , 2 Reed, 2 Fuerte for consistent year round production. Just my 2 cents. REM who commented on this video does group buys from Brokaw bc they have min 20 tree order but are the Rolls Royce of Avo growers. We did a group buy together this season along with a bunch of other folks. He’s planning another i believe
I am in Santa Barbara County and have about 3/4 acre. I do want to add more. I want at least 1 bacon, 1 more reed and maybe another fuerte. We just tasted reed for the first time from the store and really like the flavor.
Love your video, but I have to ask where you get your cedar mulch? My city does not have a free mulch program, so I'm stuck with buying it in bags, but I also want natural cedar mulch without dyes in it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the nice comment!
Thanks for those updates, everything looks pretty promising
I have to agree, I am pretty amazed with how good this orchard is doing!
Nice, I like your 6’ Hass. Didn’t know you could size control them that well and still get fruit.
Good avocado nice to see you conten
Pinkerton is an excellent tree. Easily one of my best! They taste best and have a lot of oil when allowed to hang until June. Nice collection!
Great video. I will be following from San Diego County.
I have just been searching threw UA-cam, and I’m finding obscure videos, You’re one of them, pretty cool though
Glad you like them!

What zone are you in? Do you get frost?
Is this same reed avocado tree you planted a year ago, also it will be great if you tell us what kind of fertilizer do you use

Do you have issues with pollination? With all those citrus trees around? 🌳

Thanks for the harvest times, Pat. Do you notice anything different about growing in San Jose versus Vista?
Thanks for updates. 🍎 Avacadossss
Gotta love avocados!!!!
If the fruit still not spoil just it is dried why not preserved it later can make tea and drink it , it is yummy lemon or orange tea add mint in it

So far you recommend topping or not avocados?
It depends on what you want. If you want it to be shorter and bushier then top it. If you want taller growth then dont top it.
