14:45 something I always thought was pretty sad is that in Dabi’s vision of his perfect family finally paying attention to him Shoto is nowhere to be found
Well he seems to have just been romanticizing that moment before Shoto arrived, if he had been there before that thought then maybe he would’ve thought that was fine.
The call backs in this season. You’ve got Nagant and Gentle, Death Arms recalling his first interaction with Midoriya as he ran out during the sludge villain moment. Stain watching Iida sacraficing himself in order for someone else to make a difference because you know the backlash of what Iida did is going to affect him permanently. Quirkless All Might thinking back to Midoriya asking if someone quirkless can become a hero while he faces off against the demon lord, quirkless. Just 10/10
From "next, it's your turn" from All Might directed to Deku, them AfO using the same word to mess wigh Deku during his chase and finally "Next, it's my turn", from an All Might being inspired by Deku the same way he was his Idol. That is such a great way to introduce a new All Might just before his "I am here".
That part where dabi has ice on his chest is heartbreaking. Because after everything that Endeavor did, all the damage he caused to his family and all the lives that were lost because he neglected Toya and focused on his idea of making a kid with "The perfect Fire and ice Quirk", Toya was right there. In my eyes that ice shows he had the potential of using both his father's flames and his mother's ice, if he had given it more time to let his quirk develop, if Endeavor had helped him find ways to handle his flames and LOOKED at him, then maybe he could have grown into a fine hero. But endeavor was impatient, and it costed Todoroki, Natsuo, and Fuyumi their childhood. And Toya his life. At least that's how I see it.
@@willfanofmanyii3751 the point is that he had the potential to develop it. Yes he pulled it out as he was dying, but it doesn't change the fact that it was there. And we have seen from other characters that similar awakenings can happen in slightly less terrifying circumstances. So had Endeavor trained him properly, he could have awakened it in a different way, maybe closer to how Toga did it, or even Bakugo, both developed their quirks further without being at death's door. Either way, the point is that the possibility was there, Endeavor just gave up early.
@@wisedoomy1584 That wouldn't change the fact that Toya would literally be burning himself alive being a hero. That Ice was only keeping him stable, but it sure as hell would not have let him be a full time hero in any capacity. Imagine if he DID end up a hero, what then? He'd go this hard fighting AFO and burn up like this anyway? Toya never had a chance to be a proper hero with his body the way it was, he'd just be slowly killing himself.
@@Migster07i figured it was like this, his power scale ended up 99.99% fire, and 0.01% ice, and once his fire output was high enough, the ice was "strong enough"to show itself
This episode got me on two accounts: 1. It proves that Todoroki truly is the hero of his family. 2. The fact that a piece of Toya’s mother was with him as a part of his quirk and keeping him safe from his own flames this whole time, just like how Garra’s sand was his mother, just broke me as a son with a good mom. 🤧🤧🤧 I pray somehow Toya lives through this. If they can stabilize him maybe Eri can help him.
I mean no he can't. He's a murderer with dozens of confirmed victims. Realistically all that'd await him if he survived would be the death penalty anyway.
@@hannessteffenhagen61 Not if the heroes (ie. Endeavors and his family) vouched for him. Not to go free of course but avoid a death penalty. The point of law is punishment when done wrong and death only if evil, otherwise we might as well execute everyone in a psych ward and every trauma victim who isn’t in the military. Acknowledge, Atone, and Live/Grow forward; that’s the purpose of punishment no matter how steep. It’s an uphill battle and one that will seem like h-l the more severe the crime. But because it’s hard that’s all the more reason why the end of that long struggle (or even just the journey) will be indescribably worth it. Redemption is *very* real and always possible, whether you believe it or not. If you wish for something better and truly soul search, then your life is not over. But if you learn nothing and want to do harm still, and proved your evil, then all that awaits you is in fact death. Because dying and killing is easy. Living, learning, and saving is much harder. But because it’s hard, it’s worthwhile and stronger.
At 19:40 shows that He really is suffering through his defeat knowing that this was not what he really wanted and now he’s going to keep living with whatever Time he has left hearing the apologies of his father and the share of emotion of words of his family which to Toya/dabi is way beyond too late. I mean, what can I say in life it’s never too late to talk about how you’re feeling and the struggles you’re dealing with and the people that still care about you
I'm so glad my guy Iida was done justice his scenes were so sick! Also this has to be one of the best episodes in the series I'm not kidding, at least on an emotional level.
I love AfO's excited goblin smile. It just screams "I know it's a trap, but it's too good. I really really really want to kill him, and he's right there."
It's worth going to read the manga chapter here because there's backstory about Rei's family that got cut from the episode. This was also Shoto's "Rising" chapter. And interestingly enough, Dabi saying "Why not sooner" got cut from the volume release of the manga. It only appears in the weekly version. It's now finally safe to watch the intro. I had forgotten that Iida carried Shoto during the Sport's Festival too but someone on Twitter made a video comparing that scene to Iida's run here.
Shoto really lives up to being called the “hero of the family” here huh. 😅 And for as monstrous as Touya has become, I feel like it’s only fair for the family to be the ones to ultimately save him from getting himself killed completely. And it was just in the nick of time too, since Endeavor had already given up on him yet again. There’s a lot of complicated feelings happening here, and I honestly wasn’t expecting the whole family to end up on the battlefield, but hey, it’s finally time for Touya to get the attention he’s deserved all this time.
Endeavor basically gave up cause he has no way to stop Toya's fire/explosion. Only the rest of the family showing up with their ice powers could do something.
If he somehow survives and regains consciousness after what his quirk did to his body then speak your piece quickly because what he deserves more than attention is a noose and I'm sure whatever governing body rises from the ashes will consider it a priority to set him an appointment for the gallows.
When the lives of so many people are in the line, I really don't think you can blame Endeavor for making the quick decision he did. Maybe there were other ways to help Dabi, but he absolutely did not have the time to try each and every way out. Him accepting that is not a fault on his part, regardless of his past actions.
@@rhythmking7140 I’d say he had a few seconds to try out other stuff, and a few more as they were flying, but like, I’m not saying it was a logicless decision.
This is an episode of absolute legends. The confrontation of All-Might and AFO carries the weight of the ENTIRE show as All-Might goes to settle a 200 year old grudge match between him and the DEVIL as a one man army, all to protect his son in literal DEFIANCE of the foresight that told him what happens, when it happens, and in the PERFECT CONDITIONS to make it true. And he STILL does it with an honest to god smile on his face. And Iida is recognized by Stain the man who called him unworthy and tried to end him is now a witness to this guy building to support Shoto as he did for him at his lowest and literally walks UP walls to be a hero and launches flies like a plane, to deliver Shoto to the pit of hell to save his family from Touya who is going to destroy everything as his father has to come to terms with had he JUST stayed by his son’s side and believed in his son, he may have awakened the quirk he wanted AND had a happy family. But he takes it and goes to protect everyone crying on the ground apologizing over and over to everyone. (And the temperatures are RIDICULOUS. Thermonuclear, too…just a completely immeasurable cold that cancels it out. Absolute zero was off the table a LOOOONG time ago for what these people freeze in these conditions so there’s not a way to even measure it.) Oh and a REALLY insightful conversation was cut between Mr Compress and Geten that talked about the thick bloodline of the Himura clan (Rei’s family. So the liberation ice guy is related to the Todoroki’s) and how their prosperity was built and how they supported the main bloodline until they had to be sold off. Which would’ve been REALLY weird to have right after the All-Might speech to talk about a family lineage built on a word that starts with “i” that I can’t say. Also I had to clean up the pool I made of tears this morning. So that was fun.
