The Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia's far-flung northern archipelago, are home to one of the most isolated communities on earth, lying nearly 5,000 km from the nearest continental landmass.
The Aranui 5 is the only ship to regularly call at the six islands.
It has served as a vital lifeline to the people of the Marquesas for 40 years and is such an essential part of the remote communities that they refer to it as the 'seventh Marquesan island’.

This is the 5th time I've watched this video today. I'm taken away to a distance island for a few moments and I don't want to leave. The colors, the beauty of your craft... the contrast of sound, music, and dialogue as it rises and falls. The pacing, the mood, the tone... there's a heartbeat behind this work that makes it different. this is truly incredible work and it inspires me.
