🎈About me:
I’m Mahya Mirsadeghi a 24-year-old girls’ education activist, polyglot, and Author from Iran. I am currently studying MBA in China. I can speak 8 languages, including English, French, Spanish, Turkish, Persian, Italian, Arabic, and Mandarin. I share weekly content about language learning and life in China.
Thank you for watching 💜
Mahya, I like how you say that the whole learning a foreign language is more like a relationship with the language. That is a good realization for me. I'm currently learning Russian and Arabic Levantine. I'm new to Arabic but not to Russian. As a Cuban we had a long standing relationship from the times of the Soviet Union, so in schools Russian was taught extensively and English not so much. I was one of the students who had to study Russian while in secondary and high schools so Cyrillic alphabet is something I learned since I was what, 11 years old and always stuck with me. Forward some 40+ years ( I"m 52 at the moment) I decided that I wanted to actually learned the language and that's what I've been doing since last year. After all I do have a close relationship with the language. I'm now at a point where I'm working with a Russian tutor and things are going a little faster. I hope by maybe mid year I could be in a position to also start working with a tutor for my Arabic Levantine endeavour. Who is to say that 2, 3 or 5 years down the line you will find yourself with a new appreciation for the Russian language, it's pronunciation, it's seemingly difficult alphabet and retake learning it, I'm think this very well will happen and then you will be in a better informed position to take on the challenge. Good luck, I appreciate your polyglot content very much as an aspiring polyglot myself.
Failure and frustration are extremely common on language learning. I learn Russian, and I don't really hesitate. I guess once or twice a month. Language learning is a long-lasting journey but, with the right administration, and investment. You can succeed, and through it, you can discover other skills, and hobbies you didn't know you had. I can't just stop visualising myself as a interpreter escort. 😅🙂🤩
We don't always learn the languages we want. Sometimes we need to learn a language, period.
Personally, I think it is a mistake not to "maintain" your knowledge of the language. 25 years ago I was at level B1 in German at school. I happily cut him out of my life when I finished my education. Now I have to learn it again. It's easier for me because I remember some things, it doesn't surprise me, for example counting, I've done it. But I'm learning everything again.
However, I have no problem with it, I have always had a lot of humility in me, it just pisses me off that I have to devote this time to learning again, that I can't communicate effectively in this language NOW.
The second thing is that in the case of a new language, I would probably not start learning it on my own. Especially if the alphabet of this language is non-standard for me or/and pronunciation is one of the more difficult ones. However, the teacher not only teaches, but sometimes gives life tips regarding the language, he can correct or explain something differently if we do not understand. Adapt learning to our individual needs. And this writing - I prefer someone to check me.
2025 is the year of German for me. Because I used to have a strong foundation, I can do it on my own. Besides, I live in Germany now, a bit isolated, but I can talk to a native speaker from time to time.
I also maintain my English, although I also have plans to delve deeper into this language, but German is a priority and I focus on it.
However, 2026 will be the year of the Arabic language for me. I already have a school in mind with online courses for beginners in my native language (Polish).
You are my inspiration, keep going❤🎉😀
I am native Polish speaker and I know already 10 languages. Russian was very easy for me due to the fact that its also slavic language and there is a lot of similarity, I did not have to learn grammar almost at all because its so similar, so I got to C1 level in just one year. I feel strongly drawn to Chinesse and Arabic, but I am little bit afraid that I will give up after some time.
Thank you for sharing this video! As an Italian who loves Russian language, but still finds it very hard, I can imagine that it was so difficult for you if you didn't even like it 🙂 you are amazing for speaking all the languages you speak, also some extremely difficult ones, keep going!!!
You can do it!
5:55
1. pick a language that excites you.
2. Learning a language while a beginner in another language.
2b. Learning a first non-native language on your own
3 & 4. Taking a language too slowly. Not immersing yourself.
Proud as always
I really agree with you saying learning a foreign language is building a relationship with the language. When I was younger I loved anime, manga etc and I was super motivated to learn japanese. A few years down the line, I stopped getting excited with it and stopped japanese all together. I'm finally picking it back up again!
Thank you so much for this useful advice ♥️✨🌹
Now, I am improving my English, Arabic, and Urdu Hindi languages
later, I want to learn Chinese language. I also I can speak a little Spanish, French, German, Russian....
I make the same mistakes in studying English but now I am studying it consistently since three months.
Interesting. I heard your Chinese on the Zoe channel, pretty good! I am a native speaker of Slavic language, so Russian would not be too hard for me. Interesting also to hear that Arabic is supposed to be logical. Virtually everyone says it is terribly hard, and in some ways even harder than Chinese, and you are the first one I noticed mentioning, it might be accessible in certain ways. But I know I will possibly never learn Arabic, because I am not that interested in this area of the world, I agree you need a very specific connection and strong motivation. So you surely have many correct points out there. A1 in one year for “non-Slavic” speakers tackling any Slavic language is actually considered quite a good achievement (or at least a standard one) according to most of the statistics and my personal experience. Anyway, you do well with focusing on one and then move on. I would hardly get to decent level of Chinese if I did not make it my priority in recent years. 加油!
well, i just want to say that i really understood what you were saying like language learning is a journey, you have to connect with this language! and you have to feel the connection with it and etc. like i really feel that way with Arabic and French, but i haven't such feelings with Russian!!! i don't know why!?! its a lovely language also hard one but idk
Glad to be the first. Thank you again for sharing your story once more. Kheyli motashakkeram.
Thanks for the first comment 👍 😊
You're such an inspiration for me 🔥🌹
I agreeee✨️
Finally sm said what i was thinking about for tooo long
I started learning Japanese 3 years ago and although i have good resources to make language easier,I still in a1🙂💔..and that's because i am learning Italian besides as a major and I'm learning many things else so i literally studying Japanese like one day yes and 6 days no🫠
I hope you to keep going ❤❤❤❤
It's so interesting how our cultural connections influence language learning! I'll try to do a video about this topic soon.
I learn Russian on cheats, because I’m a native Polish speaker. Both grammars are so similar, but I agree with you that it’s so irregular. Too many rules, too many exceptions it’s hard for me to speak correctly despite it’s so similar to Polish. It took me less time to learn basic Persian grammar (I’m a beginner I hope grammar will still be easy) and while I thought Persian will be similar to Polish, it was something completely different (except some basic vocabulary). And if it’s hard for me, it’s ten time harder for you,
I self studied Korean as a beginner and got to intermediate. Yes, it can take longer but it’s possible. 😊
Mahya seems so cool personally, but I struggle with the exposition on these videos.
Have mercy on us may God have mercy on you appeal only out of hunger and poverty, O scholar, be well in our skin. 😭😢😭😢😢I asked you, by God, to save us before we die of extreme hunger. I asked you to enter. on God. On you, I am facing you, I am your sister, I beg you, I beg you, save us for the love of GodGod is my witness, my brother, that from morning until now we are forbidden to ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' I swear to God on the book of God that I will not lie to you, nor set you up, nor cheat you. I am a Yemeni girl from Yemen, displaced from my family and I. Between us is a house of 15 thousand Yemeni riyals, and now we owe 45 thousand for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of those people who do not have mercy. By God, my brother, he comes every day and humiliates us and talks about us and wants us to go out to the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. The neighbors saw us crying and they went back to talk to the neighbors and we have not paid him until the end of the week. I swear to God, this will put us out to the street. May God have mercy on us. Our country is suffering because of this war and we cannot find our daily sustenance and we live, my mother and my brothers are traveling, our father passed away, may God have mercy on him, and we have no one in this world to be with us in these harsh circumstances. My little brothers went out to the street and saw the neighbors eating and stopped at their door to give them even a piece of bread. By God, who owns the heavens and the earth, they closed the door and threw them out and they came back crying, dying of hunger. No one had mercy on them and the holiday was returned so I could live. Now, if one of us does not help us with a kilo of flour, I swear to God that we will die of hunger. Oh brother, I seek refuge in God and then in you and I want your help for the sake of God. I ask you by God, do you love good and help me even with 500 Yemeni riyals? Send me a WhatsApp message on this number 𝟬𝟬𝟵𝟲𝟳𝟳𝟭𝟳𝟱𝟵𝟭𝟬𝟳𝟭 and ask for my card name and send it and do not delay and God will compensate you with all good. My little brothers, see how they are and help us and save us before they throw us out into the street. You will be humiliated or die of hunger. My family and I ask you by God, if you are able to help us, do not delay in helping us. May God reward you.°÷π÷π÷÷π`π^~_~÷`÷`π÷~_π`÷~ππ°~÷~π~π~÷~π~ππ~π.......،.، ......،.،..،.،..،.،.،..،.،..،.،.،.،..............,.,..,.,.,.,..,.,.,..,..،.،.،.،.،..،..,..,., , .....،..،.،..،. .....,.,. .,.,..,.,..,.,..,..,. , , .,..,., ...،..،.،..،.، ،.،.، ........ .. .. ......

i love your videos
Keep going ❤🎉
😊
❤ lol and I thought speaking Arabic as my native language and fluent English was a miraculous achievement , 1 language and I tried french as 2nd , and I failed , that's what failure is Mahya not what you mentioned...😂
I still struggle with French, Je parl un peu francais, up till now...
❤ keep it up
May Allah bless you ✨️ 🎉
How many hours do you think is neccery to self study in a day for a language?
Yo aprendí español por mis Padres.
Bonjour, merci pour la vidéo.
So 12 minutes to say that not being motivate in learning the culture was the reason.
I find a very difficult to learn 3 foreign languages. I am fluent in English and French, and I tried to learn Spanish but I saw it's difficult on me. my brain cannot do it, so it's enough for me Arabic, English and Frdnch . Notice I understand Persian when I hear some one speaking it, I don't know how !
😊You're so amazing for being fluent in English and French - that's such a huge accomplishment!
You're definitely not dumb! You're as smart as you are beautiful!! Which is a lot! Try taking a break and trying again.
Thanks a lot
It would be awesome if you could some language learning content in arabic as well
As an non-native Russian language, i agree that Russian grammar doesn't have any logic( Every time when i ask some grammar questions to my friends they tell me "there's not an explanation for this, you should feel it" 😅
It took me 3 years to get C1 level!
This happened to me with Chinese. I had little interest in learning it or the culture, and I was studying other languages at the same time
Thank you for this!
Mahya do you think learning Kurdish language with farsi simultaneously would be a good idea?
These two languages are very close together and both from same family. Try both but one by one😊
@mahya_polyglot look miss mahya i already have basic knowledge in kurdish cuz i started learning it since the beginning of 2024 , but lately i fell in love with persian songs and i've been being obsessed with persian as well , now i'm completely confused which one to continue with
I also started learning Spanish last year because I thought I had to, but as you sed, it starts feeling like a chore, if you don't have a special relationship with the language, so I gave up. Now I'm really interested in learning Thai (love the sound and the country!) but not right now, since I'm busy with university.
Hi Mahya, how much it took time that you learn these languages. Do you think Russian is difficult? Because also tried but failed and lost my motivation. Do you think we are able to learn specific languages?
I feel the same about English😊 As a native Russian speaker I think Russian is difficult. Especially if I m trying to explain the rules to another person. But if you want to achieve a basic level you don't need a lot words or grammar. The most difficult parts are the verbs, numbers and cases. Avoid them at the beginning. I saw one time a foreign student who speaks with super short words (2-5 letters) and one-two words sentences. Genius. Also Russian language has a lot of similar words with other languages, maybe you already know half of words. Good luck😊
@@nataliepodgainova6582 grammatically learning is difficult but when we avoid verbs, numbers and cases what will remain to learn. there is native speakers to speak in person and find in social media.
❤❤❤❤
losing self-confidence.....more specifically after being dedicated and consistent for months
What's wrong?
No sound in this video
Your next choice could be Hungarian. It's challenging but brave polyglots love it. 😉
😍😍😍😍
Mahya please consider hindi urdu. You already know Farsi, it will surely be easy for you!!
Yes I am seriously considering it 😊thanks for your valuable advice 👍
I have a trauma every day 😅 Do you think german is difficult to learn or it's more a easy thing 💁♂️
If zou speak so much languages than zou know well grammatic of them.Compare that grammatic rules with Russian language grammatic and hack a language to the B1 level. Its enough to speak with people.
How did you learn English at this level?
Great
Visit Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬. Here everybody speaks Russian
❤️✨🌹

Mahya! I wish I had the love you have for Chinese as well! The thing you mentioned about Russian; "I just didn't like the way it sound." I have the exact feeling towards Chinese🥲🥲
