I was there backstage and 16 years old. Even then I realized this was something different, special, a once in a lifetime kind of experience. The Police were the best band in the World that night. I seriously mean that.
i had no idea people even compared the police and rush. they're like apples and oranges.rush did long prog-rock 8-minute compositions, the police tried to work in the 4-minute new wave idiom. they're really different bands. but the police is better, though.
The Police ROCKS!!!! I like other bands too, im goin to SOULFLY & Fear Factory concert on Aug/18/2012 in PR. But The Police its a great band too. It influence me as a young kid to listen to ROCK. Bands are not to be compared like cupcakes , its music its about how it makes you feel. and The Police is a great band , and all my Heavy metal friends agreed. So Chill. and let your hate "many miles away....." Peace.
Doesn't matter about Geddy's voice. I never said he had a great singing voice.. just the fact that he plays those insane basslines whil still singing the lyrics, and finding time for the keybaords.. No sorry, Sting while a great musicain, and killer song writer is no where near the bassist that Geddy Lee is.
1. This is a Police video, lets talk about the Police not some other band. 2. Police fans are not the problem here, its a Rush fan that decided to come in and make a comment about RUSH if you look back at the earlier comments.
I don't know it just seems that every Police fan says Rush sucks. I don't say the Police suck just because I like Rush better. I also don't say Sting's voice is bad. I like it, but I could listen to Rush much longer. I just wonder why every Police video I see people say RUSH SUCKS. Lol, us Rush fans just respect the music and listen to Rush videos and comment about how good they are! We don't say POLICE SUCKS, because we don't care about that. We come for the music.
The Police are second only to the Beatles in terms of the most exciting and innovative band of the 20th century. The musicality of just these 3 musicians on stage is beyond comprehension. How Sting is able to play such synchopated, grooving bass lines and then sing with such jazzy vocal l phrasing has mystified me for decades.
It's very normal in south America, Jamaica and lots of African countries. The ability to make that your own is musicality. Walk into a music college and you are surrounded by people with those kind of abilities. Sting and the police were innovative songwriters. But instrument technically not above average in a music college.
@@thewomble1509 So true! There's a place for great technique and skills but it's nothing without the heart and soul. It's nothing without the creativity or inspiration
I respect the fact that they're very talented musicians. Just not much of fan of their music. A few minutes of Geddy's voice goes a long way for me. :-) Why can't YOU respect the fact that everyone has different tastes?
No no.. At around 2:47 you can here the pre-recorded track, just for a second. On a few occasions during the Synchronicity Tour they used a backing track, especially on Stings voice. Kind of cheesy. But I guess they were trying to get a fuller, thicker sound. Nevertheless, this version of Synch.2 is pretty good, especially the last part.. "many miles away".. They play that bit perfectly here.. Even in the Police reunion show, they just couldn't play that section right..
thanks demetrios. i'm not against playing over recordings, a lot of bands do it, but it was just kinda messing with my mind. maybe because the police was so tight they only goofed it up once. and now i have to deal with this absurdist mental image i have of a wall made of well-played harmonicas.
That's not a pre-recorded track, that is simple digital delay on the guitar. You can see Andy hit the notes right before 2:47, then makes an adjustment, and moves back to playing the notes. Sting used a backing track on a few songs at the August 2, 1983 show at the Spectrum club in Montreal because they were filming it for possible commercial release as a live concert video. But they went with the Atlanta show from November 1983 instead which did not have any backing tracks for vocals.
Universal Consulate General lol look idiot Police were and are one of your god Neal Pearls faves and inspiration. Lol Rush you fucking moron get the fuck outta here
1. Sting is a much better bassist than getty will ever live to be, when was the last time you saw getty playing an upright fretless? Try never. And as a drummer myself I can tell you the only ones who are impressed by pert are 'rush' nerds, there is nothing exceptional in his play at all. 2. Sting can actually sing, unlike that mousey sound getty calls a voice. Unclog your head gear!
How did this comparison to Rush arise? Jesus christ. I'm sure I don't want to know... but ffs why? Is it because they're both power-trios? That is a super-lame basis for a comparison. Please stop. Rush is a great band, but let The Police have their due, why should Rush get free press off of this? They've had plenty of the limelight... xD
NO..Sorry but the police, while a good energetic band, can't hold a candle to Rush... Geddy Lee is one of the best bassists ever to strap one on, and on top of that he sang all the vocals AND plays keys at the same time... Sting's basslines were very simplistic, mostly just chunking away punk style on one note thru most tof their songs...so no comaprison there... And then there's Neal Peart... please Copeland is a great purcussionists, but....yeah, he doesn;t come anywhere close to Peart.
I was there backstage and 16 years old. Even then I realized this was something different, special, a once in a lifetime kind of experience. The Police were the best band in the World that night. I seriously mean that.
Oh, they were.
t
The combination of Genius Sting, the talent and skilsl of Andrew and Steward are fantastic. A better stimulant than morning coffee!!! 🎸🎻🥁👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Copeland wills himself to greatness. What a player.
i love both Rush & The Police!!!
Stewart is a Beast!!
Another working day has ended
Only the rush hour hell to face
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
Contestants in a suicidal race
Stuart cokeland's tempo !!! Gods !!!
Oakland really?...wow, AWESOME!
Wow! This is an amazing performance. So intense.
You are so gorgeous !!!
Compare this to the 07-08 tour. I’m not sure what Andy was doing with that Strat but this is how it fucking GOES full STOP
Childhood memories!!

That very nice audio!
Neil Peart was really into The Police back in those days. :)

This is in our set list . I'm a well trained singer but let me tell you singing this song is awful hard. His note selection is incredibly challenging
@MichaelBoryAlis RUSH IS AMAZING Police and Rush all day.
Awesome!

Come on guys, grow up. Can we not like Rush and the Police and keep all the negative comments to ourselves?
i was there - 16 years old
2:17 a dark scottish loch, och aye missus!
Kicking ass and taking no names
WOW.
How about that drive on Andy’s guitar when he first plays.. wow.
Yeah, great crunch up in the mix where it should be.
Grumpy Cat still rules.

@@nomchowski8297 True but a lot of "academic" musicians have the inspiration drilled out of them and can't jam for toffee.

@@Auntkekebaby Yes. It's like two completely different worlds.
Solaris Blue Raven has a very unique take on Rush - it's a case of very disturbing information or she is one very disturbed lady ???????
Where the heck is the original video??

I like Andy's solo better on the album...the original video shows the songs chaotic madness of the song so well...
what happened at 2:43. it looks and sounds like andy summers is playing over a recording.
No - that's a wall of well played harmonics.
i misread that at first - i thought you said a wall of well played harmonicas hahaha that would be something

David Spade of guitar!!!
How dare you insult the great Andy Summers with comparisons to that hack?
So much for drummers who think you have to play match-grip for power......
police molto meglio dei rush..non è questione di gusti!
Listening to RUSH back in the day, I can see I did not miss anything.
Universal Consulate General lol look idiot Police were and are one of your god Neal Pearls faves and inspiration. Lol Rush you fucking moron get the fuck outta here
Rush was an American phenomenon.
They tried to find audience in Europe but hardly found audience.
@AlexBrewerAB Rush? Um...no thanks.
Lol what is it with you police fans. I am personally a Rush fan more than a Police fan but I still respect the police. Why can't you respect Rush?
no I'm not and no Peart does not
Rush is a great band, but they're not even in the same league as The Police.
