These crabs (Lithodes) have a kind of relationship with this type of anemone (Bolocera tuediae). I always see them hiding under anemones while diving (in Norway too).

The cloudyness might be due to reproduction from anemone. If wanna avoid it, adjusting temp might be a option. Otherwise it will kinda affect tank alot. Get live muccels, oysters, clams maybe and tunicates into the tank to help clean up the water
Yeah, I think you're right. Adjusting the temp is not an option atm. though, as I don't run a chiller on this tank. It's only happened that one time so far though, so I think it'll be fine. It cleared up nicely though, and it didn't seem to do any damage this time. Thanks for your input! :)

Hi Simon, worth waiting for! Yes I had an Anemone do the same a short while ago, part of sexual reproduction. The water was clear next day, though I do have filter feeders, as the gametes are almost 100% protein the skimmer will remove waste, though Anemones could be taught to use a tissue? Ha ha. I was lucky enough to find a couple of cloak anemone hermits on a very low tide in eel grass, and like you discovered quickly the sand sifting method of eating, one was digging near to tube worms and I was a little concerned that the tube worms would be a dietry supplement but he moved on and started sifting in another place, it looks to be no deeper than an inch (2.5 cm's), so I think they will be staying. Sometimes I put the light on several hours after it's dark and I'm always amazed at the number of species that come out after dark.

I hear about YT, they're really not fair to those that put in honest work on thier videos. Those that should be credited are not, and the fake ones seem to flaunt thier lies and get away with it. Anyway, glad to see you posting again. The crabs are really interesting to watch. 👍🏻
Yeah, it can be a challenge, hehe. Tbh, what annoys me the most is that YT keeps putting ads on the videos (sometimes even unskippable ads), without giving anything back to small creators.. I know ads can put off a lot of viewers. I sometimes skip watching videos myself if there are too many ads first tbh... Anyways, glad you're still checking out the video! Hopefully I'll get back to posting more often eventually! :)
Did I just witness an arthropod orgy? Simon, the gods of the sea have blessed you with a cooperative show off of an anemone! Clearly an extremely happy anemone. Came to say the same as others who say breeding behavior.
It being turned over is a good thing, it would basically be increasing the depth that the anoxic layer forms at - technically granting more habitat to aerobic life within the substrate. I think it's good for detritus suspension too!
I would suggest observing the hermit crabs and how much sand they sift through. They might be population control for the small creatures in the sand. How many do you have?
Such an absolutely incredible tank! I think the hermits are probably safe to keep in without risking the whole DSB. Have you considered adding any fish in the future?

Keeping to the deep water habitat idea has made it difficult to get the fish I want tbh, but I actually have been able to add a couple of fish now. If I eventually do make another video, they will feature. If nothing else, I'll probably add a "short" of the fish soon. :)

Honestly, I'm still not entirely sure what direction I want to go in for this tank in terms of stocking.. I have added a couple of deep water fish now, but getting suitable creatures from the deep is not very easy.. I might just skip the deep water idea eventually.

@mathias - chillers are made specifically for this purpose. Before they were common, and if on a budget, it's also possible to make one by coiling plastic tubing in a small refrigerator.
@@aniram95665 the refridgerator method is not very controllable, chillers based on tungston coil are expensive, and if one has a tank in the living room and a chiller operating to far below roomtemperature high humidity can cause severe condensationof the tank glass, and even acrylic. Best thing is to choose intertidal species that can tolerate a range of temperatures.
Hi there! That's cool! I keep this tank in my basement, so no big need for temperature control down there...As others have said, chillers is the way to go otherwise. I have a smaller tank in my living room where I run a chiller (Teco TK 500, for a 180l tank. Good chillers, and they do have larger models for bigger tanks. Cost quite a bit though....) to keep the temp at 17-18C all year round. Condensation might be an issue though if you go too low with the temp..

@@ColdwaterTanks I never see them shallower than 18-20 m. And then all the way down to 40 they can be found.
