By the time she was 23 she was all alone raising us children. We were dirt poor but did not know it. My mother went to beauty school and learned how to cut hair so that she could provide for us. All of the stress from working too hard and raising five children on her own took its toll on her mind and her body. Eventually her body began to break down but she always had our happiness in the front of her mind. She would always sing to us children even when things were terribly bad and made up games for us to keep us happy. My mother always believed in god and always made sure that god was part of our lives and so many times it was her faith alone that got us through. When she had nothing to give but love or just a kind word it was what she did. I thank god for her and wish that I could have told her so before she passed last month. But im sure she knows. So this song is an exact reminder of my childhood. I listen to it regularly and can not do so with out shedding some tears. I love you mom and dedicate this song to you...

I don't know your age but if you are like me you heard this song over and over as a kid because your single or divorced mom played and or sang it to you. But something I noticed both in this song and in other stories here is that none of us have our mothers with us today. That is very likely because the stress of raising us children without the help every parent should have, contributed to her passing years before she would have otherwise. You may not have found it hard growing up without a dad, But your Mom probably did find it hard to raise you without him or someone.
Christian, I must say I am 60 and yes my mom raised my brother and I after my spineless dad fled, and she raised us until my "stepdad" I call him dad came along. She is 80 and 52 years later and her health is declining faster than I would like, it just kills me to see her on SKYPE, and in the pain she is, so after talking to her I just cry and cry and cry....I heard this song today on German radio and yes it brought back memories when my brother and I were scared she always had her way to calm us down and I must say it hurts writing this now, because this is such a beautiful song and I know that I will really hurt when the good Lord calls her home....I am sure that there will be a lot of lovely moms talking about this song...God Bless...
