This is hands down the best movie ever made. This masterpiece of music hits you so hard and makes me relive the tragedy and beauty of the movie. I actually named my daughter Cora🙃
This was one of the first real books I ever read, maybe 10 - 11 years old. I'm 64 now, When my 2 sons were little and my wife would leave us for a weekend, we would put cushions on the floor and watch this movie, surround sound up to 90, Hehe, then at the beginning we would wait for Hawkeye to fire "The Long Carbine", then the cheer, three lads together for a weekend.
I’m sorry, *@Elizabeth Mae,* but the most you can say is that-IN YOUR OPINION-this is the best movie ever made, or that it’s YOUR favorite. Although I personally adore this film, it falls within the realm of art where it’s not possible to quantify “best,” or even “worst.” The best we can say for this film is personal preference, bc of the highly subjective nature of film.
@@voraciousreader3341 huh?? I can't believe I'm getting scolded for my comment about a beautiful piece of music linked to an amazing movie. U don't need to lecture me "forgetting" to add "my opinion" when it's obvious, what I wrote, was my opinion. This just takes you back to a time where your love meant everything. Wish I was there especially with Daniel Day Lewis. What a fantastic film and score.

@@alwagner9722 Sure they are rigged. 'Howard's End' got 9 nominations that year. And who remembers that movie? But you know what else got 9 nominations? Clint Eastwood's 'Unforgiven' The Oscars for that year were brutal. If it had come out the year before it would have only had to contend with The Silence of the Lambs. If it had waited a year later it would have been smashed by Shindler's List While it DID win for best Sound, it also had some real serious competition in every other category. Cinematography went to A River Runs Through It. Best Song and Original Score went to Aladdin, Lead actor went to Al Pachino in Scent of a Woman Supporting actor went to Gene Hackman in Unforgiven which also beat Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men Lead actress went to Emma Thompson in Howard s End Supporting actress went to (surprising everyone) Marissa Tome in My Cousin Vinnie. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/65th_Academy_Awards

Another Awesome Film I went to see with my Father....we had just lost my youngest brother in a terrible accident. Father you and my Brother are together again, I love you Pa.
Scottish musician Dougie Mac Lean is the author of this captivating masterpiece of music. Check "The Gael". It was beautifully arranged for the film by Trevor Jones and is best known as Promontory but I feel it fair to give the credit to the real author in the first place

Uncas was my favorite character and I cried when he died, I was also like 7 lmao. I actually like Duncan now, the way he sacrificed himself was fucking tragic as hell. Knowing the woman you love feels that way for someone else, and you can let him die or take his place. Shit hurts to this day.
The scene where the younger sister throws herself from the cliff and the anguish of the young brave who was falling in love with her is a remarkable scene. Also the reaction of the chief who wanted her, played by Wes Studi, is awesome as well. Truly a remarkable film all the way through. This music more than helped it become an absolute classic. This mix and the video, captures all the best.
Excellent acting from all the players. I felt that if Magua hadn't chased, caught, and terrorized the Monroe sisters (he intended to rip out their hearts as he had their father's heart), perhaps Alice might have had the courage to hang on and wait to be freed. But Alice was either emotionally broken, especially by seeing Magua kill Uncas; or afraid that Magua would torture/kill her and decided that jumping would be an easier death, or both. It was rather remarkable that Magua changed his mind from the intent to kill Alice to keep her alive (and possibly make her his wife); and Wes Studi did a fine and credible job with that moment.

The good the bad and the ugly written by ENNIO MORRICONIE is the best soundtrack ever written at the age of 25. This music is beautiful and very fitting both good films and soundtracks
When world's collide. Imagine a time with everything to gain, and everything to lose. Super-emotional movie with fantastic cast, and same for the musical score.
No one could have played Magua better than Wes Studi. He is one magnificent human being. The look on his face just before the little sister threw herself over the cliff was epic! For such a "savage" warrior, the tender emotion in his face through that whole scene left me breathless! Your version here is outstanding! I drank in every last cord from beginning to end.
He looked like he didn't give a fuck and walked away without pause. Well played indeed, yes the two short terse fingers saying come here was a masterful and elegant portrayal of tender emotion.....just before he walked off lmao.
Wes Studi is one of the best actors in Hollywood. Pity he doesn't get more roles. I loved when Chingachgook killed Magua, the look of incredulity on Magua's face that this old man has bested him further solidified Wes' place in the actors pantheon.
I have to give props to Wes Studi for his portrayal of Magua. I was twelve when I first saw the film, and he made me realize that "bad guys" are more than two-dimensional props, with emotions and motivations of their own. One of those great iconic villains of my childhood.
When he's talking to Montcalm about his experience with Munroe, stood in a tent discussing the desire for revenge and then he acts upon it after he realises he's been played by the French. He's so good in this. So, so freaking good. Ditto the scene in the Huron camp, talking to the sachem.
I jumped down in the rabbithole a year ago and researched all I could about the film. Apparantely he stated once that every indian in the film said their line in their own language (not stating if he was serious or not). And another cool thing is that he was involved in the same activist protest as Russel Means (Chingacook) in the 70ies apparently. Which led to shootouts with the Feds...

REMEMBER !!! people today would probably die if put into those times !!! NO police ,no for sure food , hostile native's, sickness, and lack of basic skill's. A very hard life well into the1900-1910's.
its sadly ironic that they couldnt find a location in the Adirondacks in upstate NY to shoot (as the filmmakers originally intended and was generally the actual location the story takes place) on account of clear breaks in the natural environment due to development. granted not many, but they werent using CG at the time and couldnt easily remove any backround structures. i believe they shot most of the movie in the catskills in PA tho i could be remembering that wrong.

A timeless masterpiece by Michael Mann
Not that underrated, didn't do well on the B.O back then, maybe a little overshadowed by Dances With The Wolves which was the big hit of the early 90's in that movie genre.
The movie is good, the book is better.

This movie hit the trifecta: actors, music, scenery.
Should have won the Oscar for all the categories.
Exactly right. How did it not win?
Because they're rigged.
@@alwagner9722
Sure they are rigged. 'Howard's End' got 9 nominations that year. And who remembers that movie?
But you know what else got 9 nominations? Clint Eastwood's 'Unforgiven'
The Oscars for that year were brutal.
If it had come out the year before it would have only had to contend with The Silence of the Lambs.
If it had waited a year later it would have been smashed by Shindler's List
While it DID win for best Sound, it also had some real serious competition in every other category.
Cinematography went to A River Runs Through It.
Best Song and Original Score went to Aladdin,
Lead actor went to Al Pachino in Scent of a Woman
Supporting actor went to Gene Hackman in Unforgiven which also beat Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men
Lead actress went to Emma Thompson in Howard s End
Supporting actress went to (surprising everyone) Marissa Tome in My Cousin Vinnie.

Yes agreed, loved that scene, the complete lack of understanding on his face was priceless. Great acting.

Love how the younger brother fight his way to save the girl....powerful scene
Wes Studi gave respect Magua,
Wes Studi is one of the best actors in Hollywood.

He helped make this the Classic it is, great actor
I jumped down in the rabbithole a year ago and researched all I could about the film. Apparantely he stated once that every indian in the film said their line in their own language (not stating if he was serious or not). And another cool thing is that he was involved in the same activist protest as Russel Means (Chingacook) in the 70ies apparently. Which led to shootouts with the Feds...
