This has been my go to EQ for about a month now and I prefer it over fab filter pro Q 3. Only thing it’s missing a dynamic eq but other than that I find myself using it every time. Great EQ
Man I love how you use darude sandstorm in every single snake oil videos because it makes a fair comparison!!! great track
God I wish FF stuff was cheaper. I mean it's obviously amazing, but still. So many times I've decided I'm going to buy Pro-Q or Pro-C or Saturn, gone to the website, been reminded of the price, and just clicked away again.
They are on sale right now
They are quite often in sale, don't buy them for full price
@@dillontaylor8035 yeah 30 bucks less woohoo
They’re really not expensive compared with most other plug-in companies. It’s just that other companies will try and sell you tape saturation/tube saturation/amp emulation etc all as seperate plugins where as Saturn covers everything in one plugin. Same goes for Pro-C. A lot of other companies sell you an opto/FET/bus and so on, all as different plugins.
Yea it's best to buy during black Friday or something.. and get the bundle
Crave is fantastic. My go to when I want transparent equalization.
I have this eq and I love it. Excellent sound and hi.
I went through a phase a few years back where I wanted the best EQ I could find. I wound up with Crave, ProQ-3, and Equilibrium. I basically use ProQ-3 for Dynamic Eq, the DMG for filters (it has a lot of great options), and I'll grab crave if I'm not using the other two. I also have and use TDR Nova it's great as is the Slate one. I really need to try the new Sonnox eq I'm hearing great things about that.
coming at 2023, CraveDSP now has Crave Transient EQ, which contains transient eq (Eventide SplitEQ style), dynamic EQ (fabfilter Q3) and Parallel EQ (TDR Nova).
Toneboosters eq really rules too. The GUI might be a bit more streamlined but otherwise…
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Tone Boosters EQ4 has been my go to. I was torn between FF and that, it meets my needs and more
TB EQ4 is what I went with as well. I’d like to see him do a review of it. Great value for the quality IMHO.
me too! Cheap and good
TB EQ4 is excellent, very quick to setup sidechains too. TB Morphit is also great for headphones.
i love my pro q 3 but this seems great!
Sandbox from straycats ? Great show ! Wytse drives the bus at highspeed thru the video. No boring moment at all !
Could you also do a video on the toneboosters stuff the tb equalizer has everything pro q3 has in my opinion
Been using Izotope’s Neutron EQ as of late as I’m still saving up for the Fabfilter Total bundle. It does what I need for surgical work!
You must be paid to go around and cock block other companies...
@@jdisrael7607 bruh I wish.
@@griffgoldsteinreference lol
as usual, good info , lots of sarcasm ..... and the dancing !!!!!!
Even digital eqs have a "sound" to them. IME Q3 is easily getting "hollow" sounding, so I have a better time with Crave (1 and 2) in general. However, time and time again the SSL X-eq2 does the same except better, minus definitely worse workflow 😆 the sound is insane though (whenever it gets critical it's usually the one where I lose the least when implementing changes).
I've seen a lot of EQ reviews from a lot of folks, and don't understand why we don't see more about Tokyo Dawn Labs Nova GE. I have yet to see a more "prestigious" EQ reviewed that shows reason to move on from it, unless you need way more bands, or possibly character.
Would be interested to hear your take on Kirchhoff EQ, it’s the same price as pro q3 but seems to have many more features like analog modeled anti-cramping filters.
The song is 'U & Me' by SLCT. :)
Could you please compare and review the Toneboosters plugins (Barricade 4, Equalizer 4, Reverb 4 and Compressor 4) with respect to its Fabfilter equivalent (Pro L2, Pro C3, Pro R and Pro C2) ? All of the Toneboosters plugins cost 29 Euros at the moment. Thanks a ton!
Please do a review of of the EQ in Nectar pro by Izotope. Only look at the EQ it does things I haven’t seen any other EQ do. I use it on many things not just voice
Do a shootout between Q3, CraveEQ, and Toneboosters EQ4!! I use TB EQ4 and love it!
Handy to have when you feel you need it
For my vocal chain I start with DSEQ to get rid of resonances and then CraveEq in digital mode to clean a bit more and a color compressor + color eq after to tone the vocals. Love this wayyyyyy more than fab filter just missing the dynamic eq which I use waves c4 for 💯💯💯🔥🔥
Ayo, how many presets are in this EQ?
@@anthonyworthydaretodreammu2451to be honest I don’t think I ever noticed any because of how I use it. I use it to clean most the time so I rather start with the default state and work from there
"what you are hearing right now is that the kick is doing BWOAUGHHH" 7:56 idk why but i laughed at that x)
You should do a video on the Kirchhoff EQ plugin..
Absolutely!!!
Hey man would love to see you do a review of Nickel by Acustica and compare with other emulation plugins and analog gear
The real FF Q3 killer is Kirchoff-EQ by Three Body Tech. Hope to see a review here soon.
Yes!!!!
good idea^^
Please take a look at Three-Body Technology Kirchhoff-EQ!!!!
I'm surprised there isn't some kind of linear phase eq that compares transients with the dry signal and like gates the prering. might not work on everything, but it'd definitely work on punchy low end sounds (which are incredibly common!)
cool idea. a linear phase eq only made for kicks could indeed have a feature like that in it. but you can't assume this to work for a filter that is used for general usecases. imagine applying a linear phase filter on something that is not supposed to have a lot of transient stuff going on, like pads or vocals. now where would the gate kick in? or even if we were talking about expanders it would be rather unlikely that this has the expected effect
Sorry if I missed this..
but can you use it as dynamic eq?
As you say, for an eq to be better than FFProQ3 or a static eq like Ozone 9 eq with its digital/analogue styles it's got to be one hell of a plugin
some guy below your comment just mentioned it cannot do dynamic eq (just to making sure you got an answer)
@@erismacdonald-rahn1811 thanks :)
Hoi Wietze, probeer eens de plugins van Tonebooster. Dat is echt de goedkope versie van Fabfilter. Goed spul!
I am going to take a look at CarveEQ thanks WSS!
P.S - In the future i would love to see a review of 'ToneBoosters Equalizer 4' 😁👍
I still only have the Fab Filter eq - they may be good but just a bit too expensive - by about half ;-) Mostly (apart from the great FF eq) use bx or Newfangled limiter is hard to beat
Sandstorm sounds really FUNKY through that EQ
I have BOTH Crave EQ and Sonible Smart EQ now---- Which should I use??? Eh? I ended up with both from your UA-cam videos. Also own Neutron 3. This is all too many---
Hallo ... Arturia’s Tape Mello-Fi, is free untill 31/12/21. Can you tell us how it sounds to you ? Thanks
Waiting for Fab Filter Pro Q4..
I've alway wondered how you are to use the mic when commenting and also have your speakers on in the studio when listening music yet the mic doesn't pick up the output from the speakers and give feedback. How is your setup, setup? Thanks
Maybe a 8 figure mic with the polarity reversed, maybe
"get this instead of the pro q" did i miss something or Crave does NOT have a dynamic mode? So how can it replace a pro q? 60 euros nice and all but it is not the same thing
Is DMG equilibrium really levels above all of these eqs like crave and pro-q 3 ?
no ;-)
Almost sorry words getting out about this plug. Just leave it on transparent mode. I was never that concerned about phase response or pre-ringing until I heard Crave transparent mode. It makes all my other EQs sound blurry and it seems to easy to dial in the right setting because I feel like I can hear what's happening. Just listen for yourself to the transient response vs any other EQ. Also, the hype-free nature of the Crave Co. allowed me to just be able to listen without preconceived ideas. But that may be about to change-- good for them!
Did Fab Filter not send you a Christmas card this year or something?? 😅
I really love your channel. I have been an audio engineerier for almost 35 years and there's something very interesting that I would like to share with you that I think would be VERY interesting for your show. Is there some place where we can chat?
I think the name of the song is - Snowstorm
can I make a Skrillex snare if I boost 200 hearts with it
Track: SLCT - U & Me
In my opinion Crave EQ sounds much better than Fabfilter. You should really do a comparison ... for your own sake :-)
Same here! I made extensive listening and mostly use the transparent mode and linear sounds amazing to correlated tracks corrections , keeps the integrity of the sound , other sound hollow or thinner
Can anyone in the comments recommend CraveEQ or HornetTotalEQ? I’m tryna decide between the two
Wait. THAT'S how you get the 'bump before the kick' sound? Deadmau5 has some explaining to do...
EQ would be the first thing I would try and make...Goal..Make something as good or better than Fab filter...and charge a lot less...that is how you stand out
Is it a dynamic eq? That’s the question
Wytse's been on a bend finding better/cheaper things than FabFilter. It's like they've had a break-up.
to be fair, $189 for an EQ is wild when you have a fully fledged synth instrument like Serum at same price that can do so much more if we are just comparing what you get for your money
@@mishakmusic go to Waves and you can get an EQ for $29. For the price of Pro-Q3 you can get 6 EQs and a Big Mac meal!
@@thegoodgeneral NO! Never go to Waves. $30 turns in to much more after paying for updates.
@@TWELVE-ax7 if you hurry you might still catch their 2020 Black Friday specials!
@@thegoodgeneral It's too soon. I've been hurt before. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What about Kirchhoff EQ?
Can you get better value than ReaEq ?
That sounds like Danstorm by Sarude
I love SplitEQ
But isn't FabFilter Pro Q also a dynamic EQ
I agree, Pro-Q 3 is one of the best dynamic eqs out there, plus it has some sidechain tools. So the price difference is coupled with a different feature set too.
Pro-Q is also an everything tbh
The music must be Sandrude by a band called « DaStorm », I guess. Or vice-versa.
I've recognized the song. It's sandstorm by darude
I think fabfilters and other god work plugins must seriously revise their prices, the competitors are there and do good jobs (sometimes even better), now the manufacturers are numerous and competing in this new decade, you have to be crazy to believe that people will continue to buy yours while others do the same for half the price
Song : Da mood by SoundStorm... Or something.
The "key" feature : auto gain compensation
I CRAVE this EQ
I hope sustain oh my kick to never sound like you on 9.21 🤣🤣🤣🤝
Pro-Q does a lot more too. Dynamic EQ is the one feature that I use a lot and couldn't do without. Also, Pro-Q can do EQ match, visual masking and plenty more... It makes sense that it is more expensive ;-)
Check out SSD for audiiphiles, claiming to improve sound on toms hardware, thats some solid snake oil right there! Kan mos nie wees my bro!
Ah yes, Crave EQ. I have tested this EQ in the past and the selectable phase modes are very interesting. However, it still sounds digital. The transients of the material are rather tightened and snappy which means that there is an over-compensation of keeping the time domain intact (which is obvious because there main focus is phase). But there is a lack of depth and character when it comes the frequency domain, transients are tightened to high degree its a bit of an overkill which is usually uncommon for filters; its more common to find filters that elongate transients and smear due to group delay. Because of this, I cannot accept it as my go-to EQ but it definitely has lower noise than FabFilter.
lower noise? what
@@croay Yes. All EQs contain some level of quantization noise. FabFilter is an extremely noisy EQ compared to many other great mixing EQs out there. This noise can make an EQ sound cloudy and congest mixes when compounded with multiple instances.
@@shinyukomusic I know there's a noise floor, every digital processing has a noise floor but its so tiny its negligible.
its such a nitpicky thing it hurts
@@croay -112dB THD+N in an EQ is not negligible. Loading multiple instances of the same EQ will definitely cause a cloudiness that will be unexplainable. Clarity and transparency will seem lost. If you don't believe me, try the DDMF IIEQPro and compare it to any other EQ. You'll see the differences.
I've owned Crave Eq for years because I thought that it was "better" than other digigtal eqs. After testing, my guess was wrong, so I went back to Fabfilter and other eqs.
I completely disagree. After extensive testing, Crave sounds better than Q3, especially in the top end. Transparent mode is incredible.
FabFilter wins on workflow and being dynamic. Only.
@@robshrock-shirakbari1862 did you just say "only" ? bruh, the workflow AND dynamic in fabfilter q3 is THE future of EQ vsts LMAO.
@@robshrock-shirakbari1862 hmm o think you are right I tested crave with a low end boost I realized it sounded better than the pro q3
Am I missing something but this EQ does not seems to cut above 48db? Well not a very surgical eq, i´ll pass this one!
If anybody was like "wow, what version of Sandstorm was that" … it was the "SLCT - U & Me" version of Sandstorm
Its darude - Feel The Beat
Crave EQ is very-very good. Using more than 2 years. Fabfilter?...What is it? :))

I’ll just keep using stock plug-ins. It’s not like my music would improve.
Don’t give in that’s something i once did then i came back with more fire and determination to get better but if you asked am i better i never big myself up that’s not me i prefer when friends say your improved that’s enough for me so keeping on making beatz
I always end up back at EQUILIBRIUM
Let's try running real instruments through these plugin demos
Nice video mate also check Hornet Total EQ it has Analog & saturation modes plus dynamic EQ Cheers!

Maybe it needs surpressing?
OH... "PHASE"... 😄 Ok. Whew!
I would be more interested in a shootout between Pro-Q3 and Kirchoff-EQ from Three-Body Technology. They have obviously straight up copied Pro-Q's UI and are even using Pro-Q (or "a very famous EQ" as they put it) in Plugin Doctor comparisons on their website. I'm okay with developers comparing their products with others to point out the advantages you as a customer, might gain over using other products, but I'm not okay with them straight up copying other developers. To do this, and then compare their product with the one they've copied while trying to show how much better their product is, just screams small peepee syndrome.
Wow have FabFilter upset you somehow? lol
i also think linear phase is overrated. they need more cpu than other filter types and pre-ringing is weird to deal with. but there are certain situations where it's useful. most importantly there needs to be a layering context. like when you have 2 kicks that are already phase aligned nicely but you still wanna tweak one kick's lowend. 2ndly you don't have to max out the latency. if maxed out latency was the best all the time plugin UIs wouldn't give you the option to tweak it. the pre ringing can always only be as long as the latency of the linear phase filter, so shortening it reduces pre-ringing. you might ask at what cost? the answer is: stop-band-attenuation and slope. but you'd have to go really crazy with the eq before that really starts to matter. and if you got crazy with an eq you would probably find yourself in a sounddesign context rather than a mixing one and the pre-ringing might actually be very desirable there.
