Maybe she cheated because her heart wasn't in it because she really wants to be with women. Keep in mind, her career was on the upswing before she was cast in Twilight, but after she was cast, the media attention was so huge (probably more overwhelming than she expected) and people she never met were expecting her to be the character she played. She probably felt like she didn't really have a choice to publicly be who she really was and wanted to be.
The hordes of teenage girls who wanted to be her (but again- not the real person- the one from their fantasies- they wanted her to live in fan fiction), would not have reacted well to her coming out back then.
