Looks like a great bridge design. By opening up the spaces underneath it helps foster development and increases sunlight. The biggest problem with some older bridges and overpasses is that they cut off communities and created isolated areas that became blighted.
However, what about preservation of its heritage. In my opinion the old bridge forms part of the development of the city of Los Angeles. I’m sure that with a bit of forethought the old bridge could have been adapted with a design that represented the past, present and future.
Opens up space for more tents underneath.

yeah, I agree now the 40k homeless people at skidrow can now build more camp estates under that beautiful bridge.
@@jnanacaksusa3932 that's exactly what I was thinking is going to happen
I always drive off this bridge in gta!
Me too
I was just going to add he missed saying in video games! But then I saw your comment, anndddd the one after that lol
Wait this bridge is in gta v? Damn i might have to go drive off it
Same lololol
Oh you mean the old bridge
Time for an update to this video. The designers failed to account for the people who would use (and abuse) this bridge and now it's been shut down "until further notice".
Use and abuse?

I see the construction almost daily living in Los Angeles. It’s going to be a beautiful structure with the skyline behind it!
How does it look now?
I hope they follow through with the redesign for the surrounding areas as all that industrial area isn't very appealing or welcoming to people. Would be great if they actually do reinvigorate the river in that area and allow for more park space so people can enjoy it more....
I was gonna like this but it was at 69 so I couldn’t
Hows it coming along now?
@@zualapips1638 Six out of the 10 sets of arches are built. It already looks impressive even though it's not finished yet. It should be done by next year.
The way those staircases go up the arches: that is so graceful.
That bridge actually looks very good.
sampsalol yeah it still retains the arch design of the old one.....
Somehow new designs are still less attractive than old ones. Whey do not look as stable. In my opinion heavy duty ancien Rome briges still look the best.
Tbh I do feel that way,cuz is such a pity and sad for me to see old structures demolished just like that, especially that it is a symbolic representation or a significant landmark of an area
you're right about it retaining it's freaking legendary arch design, it's like the same ol' good bridge except times 100. 😂❤️
Labas Labas They do not look as stable? Well, they aren’t supposed to look stable, they’re supposed to BE stable.

@@loljewlol well, actually, there was a pandemic. You might have seen something about it in the news?
Earthquake proof bridge?!? Sounds like an unsinkable ship...
Andrew Baumgartner I think it will fair better than other bridges but to think it won’t have any destruction is unrealistic.
Over 100 years ago, ok
Huge mistake calling it earthquake proof. Earth: challenge accepted
The Titanic was sink-proof right up until it wasn't.
Agree. (OS physicist)
theres nothing "earthquake proof" BUT kudos to people and organizations who accept the challenge and say ...."Bring It"!!
Whelp it got a bit of a test last year with LA's 7.0. Not sure how far into construction it is or was but 7.0 is fairly big considering So-cal. We really haven't been getting many earthquakes these last ten years or so, and anything larger than a 4-5.0 is significant, at least down here. They are definitely idiots to challenge nature like that, but I didn't hear anything on the news about it so it must still be there.
Earthquake proof up to a certain level.

Ignacio Ferreira 4F Of course Los Angeles is from Spanish, in fact originally “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles”. Likewise “Nicaragua” is also Spanish. The NARRATOR is British (or as the Brits would pronounce it “Brit-tish”. HE can’t pronounce “Los Angeles”, and probably would pronounce “Nicaragua” as in my earlier post. Then there’s the former Brit-tish Prime Minister, named “Tony Blair”, or as the Brits pronounce it “Taeni Blä”! 🤨
I love this channel so much. Thank you for putting out quality content!
Outstanding. I possess such high respect for those who work in the field(s) of construction. Creating such beautiful pieces of art takes such stress, mundane/tedious movements and extremely long hours of work that is physically and mentally exhausting. The by-product of such work always astound me. Thank you to all the people who work in construction. Quite miraculous. :)

Lucky You must thank the architecturals
Yes indeed! Coming from the construction industry, it makes happy to hear appreciation for what we do. From laborers to the project management team, a LOT of work, frustration, patients, communication, problem solving and teamwork goes into what we do! Countless hours missed with our families, away from home and stressing about the next day are worth it in the end. Because of our many sacrifices, we’ve built something amazing for the people and we’ve built something we are proud to put our name on!
and then morans invade it like it's something for them to play on and deface, armed guards needed, God only knows what is going to happen in the future there
It is an impressive structure, but it's kind of sad. The old Viaduct was such an LA icon.
Yeah. But safety first!
I agree with you, but this is a new beginning, isn't it?
In the northern half of the state, I was a bit sad to see the eastern span of the Bay Bridge go-so much history-but the new bridge is fantastic. I hope SoCal eventually feels the same way about their new bridge.
It's sad if you're attached to things. Specially materialistic things.
@@LG141602 You're sad.
Now thats a cool bridge !
sorry i hate bridge
@@ameter6422 Fair enough. Hopefully the new subways they're building down there have stations as cool as the existing ones. I have mixed feelings about LA but there's plenty to love.

I hope this will be as iconic as it's predecessor. Such a beautiful bridge.
How do you find such interesting subjects all the time...? You really are my favourite channel. I always enjoy your postings and look forward to your next clips.... :-)
I had no idea that this bridge was demolished, I’m so use to it in GTA, the new bridge looks far better though
Ya that bridge fits with the area alot in gta 5 if they put this bridge in it would ruin the flow of that part of the game were Lester's wearhouse is everything looks like a factory and shipping area.
yeah Max because that area isnt with modern culture in both in game and in real life. It'll look kinda weird if the surrounding area doesn't construct
Great videos....thanks being in construction here in NYC, I share this with lots of fellow workers....everyone loves it.
dude that bridge has a great view too. like when you stand on it theres a hella good view of everything and you can see skyscrapers and stuff.

Good video! I am fortunate enough to have been able to visit the construction site and see all the work going into this bridge. It's also notable that this construction is occurring in a built environment, just inches away from occupied buildings at some points. Props to the engineers and construction workers! Can't wait to visit the finished project!
BRILLIANT design and engineering!!!
Excellent video production and clear diction!
Well done all around!
.......what is "gta"...........?
@4:50 look at the photoshopped woman sitting at the table! Excellent work!
I live in LA and didn’t know very much about the new 6th Street bridge despite much publicity over the years. Coverage in the local paper and TV news usually offered lots of self-congratulatory remarks but light on specifics - such is the sad state of local news in America. This video gives me the basics of what’s been missing. Thanks so much for this informative video.
Looks great! Great opportunity to visit LA and see this once completed. :)
Highly technical explanation. Thanks Fred Mills. We are heading towards 1million Subscribers.
Although not a huge bridge. still a beautifully designed bridge I will definitely try to visit LA just for this.
The span is longer than people think because it's so close to the ground you can't really appreciate it, but the new design will help with that because those 10 pair of arches will line and highlight much more of the span.
What a fantastic new bridge; definitely one to visit on my next trip to LA. Congrats to designers and builders and LA authorities for going ahead with this bridge.
Good video. I also find it hilarious they call that a River 😂
Google LA River floods. It's a river for sure.
Before it was dammed and paved it routinely became a raging torrent during the winters. After the flood of '38 the river was re-engineered on a grand scale. There's now talk of trying to undo a lot of that and return much of the Los Angeles River to something more closely approximating its original state. www.kcet.org/history-society/los-angeles-flood-of-1938-cementing-the-rivers-future
Do your homework.
@@rosselliot8971 Unfortunately, some of these viewers with their comments only prove they aren't the brightest bulbs on the tree.
A bridge only someone from LA would call iconic (the old one) over something only someone from LA would call a river.
The "LA River" looks like an open sewer.

Great video. Thank you. I hope the new bridge gets built on time.
It's 2021 and it's still not finished but I can't wait! I'm lucky to have shot a film under it while the original was still up in 2014.

The old bridge was often shut down on Sundays for movie, TV, and commercial productions.
Very beautiful structure.
The old bridge was iconic but the new one will be so modern and a tourist attraction!
thank you for representing Los Angeles and the old bridge I grew up under and the new bridge Im going up with
Great video! That bridge is gorgeous besides engineous
A bridge from Boyle heights to skid row. Totally worth it 👍 (the artist renderings are hilarious)
Great music and pleasant voice!
Thanks. Very informative.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! 👍👍
Great video.
I live in LA bridge finally opened 6 days ago.
Gosh. Took me a year and a half to come across this video, but thanks. I live near it, used to take the 6th Street Bridge all the time. Looking forward to this new bridge and surrounding development.
Our river is basically a concrete ditch in this area (well most of its length). Visitors ask about the unfinished freeway. It will be good to have some public space around it.
Looks cool and sounds exciting to see!
I’m from LA and I had no idea about this and I passed by there not so long ago and it’s 2020 but we can’t go out but the bridge looks amazing 🔥
Loved the background music - very nice! I used to live near this area - I'll have to pay it a visit again to see all the changes :)
I hope development takes off when the bridge is done. There is a lot of construction for residential /commercial use on the west side of the LA river called the Arts District (mainly industrial/warehouse area where cheap rents and huge spaces enticed struggling artists). Warner Music and Spotify are now moving into a couple of new buildings. Lots of cool architecture for residential is also proposed. Also lots of trendy restaurants, cafes, too. But it is still 70+% industrial/warehouse. This should help bring more attention to the bridge on the west end. Also a proposal for a Metro station around this area since the rail yards for metro trains is here but the first station is currently Union Station just north of there. This would make this bridge more accessible and the area called the southern part of the Arts District, too. The other side of the river is industrial/warehouse as you can see in the video aerials. SO if development was built, park and other things like restaurants and cafes would bring in more people. Beyond the highways is a very poor residential area. Part of a good bridge use is having reasons for people to come. Brooklyn Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge are very popular bridges for pedestrians/cyclists/cars for different reasons. Hopefully this bridge can bring in people, too
Oh how miss LA. Bearings aka dampers to absorb resonance and extreme vibrations. I bloody love dynamics. Lovely videos as usual!
I can't wait to see it tagged! Then it will be a true LA icon.
I definitely love the design n focus of this bridge
That’s a pretty looking bridge!
I drived from Boyle Heights to Downtown all the time. I was heartbroken when it was gone, but can't wait for the new bridge.
Best channel on UA-cam.
Earthquake proof but not donut proof
In Tokyo they put an entire train station on giant pillars to make it earthquake proof AFTER it was already built!
Nice to know! In the case of this bridge, however, the original structure should have been demolished immediately after construction, considering the discovery of ALKALAI!!! in the concrete.
@@megaswenson Alkaline**
I know. But the old Western movies frequently had people yelling "Alkalai!!!", when the desert waterholes they'd reached turned out to be so alkaline, the water would kill the horses (or when it meant they cowboys would probably die of thirst).
Bunny Biedenharn What are they trying to mean by saying alkali? Do they mean Basic
@@OF01975 No, they mean that the elements composing the sand (or the water in the water holes) are dangerously alkaline (opposite of 'acidic', I think).
Love your voice man
This video is why I love architecture😪💕
Cool bridge. Thank you for adding standard measurements..
Definitely an icon! 😍If i am planning to go to LA, this would be 100% in my sight-list!
Simply professional.
Fast forward to 2022 : guys getting hair cuts in the middle of the street and hell cats racing up and down the bridge
I was only in LA for half a year or so but even the show I was on filmed a scene in the river under that bridge. Grank Gherey is also doing a cool revitalization of a stretch of the river upstream from here. [I think]
I live here and had no idea this was happening 😅😅
@Fergustine Feart probably because I live in 🌞 Valley and don't pay attention much to what's going on in the industrial district of Downtown

Looking good.
I love the music for this one. It reminds me of the Soarin’ over California music from Disney California Adventure. Los Angeleese makes me smile :)
beautiful!
I still remember my first hit up on the old 6th Street Bridge baq in 1988.
I look forward to riding across The Ribbon of Light on my electric unicycle in 2020. Sorry the historical Sixth Street Viaduct had to be demolished, but the necessary replacement is impressive in this excellent presentation by The B1M. One question though, where is this "Los Angeleez" you speak of? Here in Los Angeles, we say "Los Angeles."
Glad to see new construction equates to more open space
I have never heard of this bridge until today.
The new bridge is beautiful, but the area around it is ugly and weird
Very nice for Los Angeles.
These things and renders make me want to move to a busy city with cool parks
I love the los Angeles river and have many years of memories on the world famous viaduct.
