Found your chanel few days ago and I really appreciate the direct "real life" content, using the "simple stuff" (tide, sandpaper etc). We tend to forget that simplicity in problem solving is the absolute messure of intelligence.

Great points! The polisher missing at the end because with the 5000 grit finishing so well, you can just polish by hand. Amazing what you can do with such few products!

I had the luxury of burning through the paint while using a 3000 grit disc on a scratch, then removing the scratches with the Griots 3 inch orbital.
It did not take long, it wasn't done on purpose, wasn't pressing hard, didn't go at it long. That day I learned just how little clear coat these newer cars bring.

Half the thickness of the wrapping on a pack of gum! Normally 1,1/2 to 2 mills thick. Thats is factory. If it has been to a body shop... its then a crap shoot! ALWAYS pay attention to the orange peel texture on clear... when that is gone.. the peaks and valleys are gone then you have normally 1 mill or less to work with from there. Thats why I tell my trainees to burn through FIRST on a practice panel I get from local body shops. Then from there practice proper correction.

Great content video as usual. I got my son’s daily driver as a “project car” and he really likes the results. I would never have tried tried wet sanding my Mercedes, but a 2009 Corolla gave me the technique practice needed from Apex Detail.

Just seeing this one...great video! IT can be easy to fall into the trap of the big dollar machines especially with some great marketing out there. While I am sure they are great machines my little old griot's machine hasn't let me down yet. I picked up the newer dewalt rotary for $150 and a megs aggressive pad jobs that are going to require a 2 step to get some faster results than the griots will in some cases.
Keeping it simple, cost conscious and staying profitable.

Brian, you are the most down to earth and unaffected guy on the internet, as well as the most knowledgeable about your craft. If I lived close to you I would be proud to call you my friend. Hey, what am I saying...I would call you a friend if you lived on the other side of the planet. And, thanks once again for being so willing to share your vast knowledge and experience with the rest of us beginners. I am 74 and just bought a new car, and for the first time in my life I would like to learn how to take care of it properly. Before you it has been, "Gas and Oil...and let 'er Rip". With your continued help I will try to do better in the future.
And, I especially thank you for your slow, calm, and thoughtful approach. I find the hyper or windy guys, although knowledgeable, just a bit to intense... for me anyway. The first keeps me from sleep, and the second puts me to sleep. You have the perfect balance of not to hot and not to cold...but rather Just Right. Thanks again.
And, I know, this comment of mine is more than just bordering on the Windy...Sorry!!!

Love the basics, stick to the basics first and learn the right way of doing detailing!! Nice job with out the polishing machine.......
When finishing with the 5000 grit disk it shows that you didn't need a polisher to do this work, but you can hand polish to blend in the finish you want........So Brian when does a DA polisher come to play??

How to do and learn how to wet sand step by step on a hard clear coat like Bmw, Audi and Mercedes newer cars?
Start with 1000 or 1500 then 3000 at a larger area to finish of with even a larger area with 5000? Wet sand up and down then left to right or in circles??
Would love to see and learn more with step by step on both hard and soft clear coats and to see and learn how to take care of light scratches and deeper scratches plus spider Webb scratches and swirl marks🤗🙏

You and I have talked about this topic before excellent example here. However I have the Binford 5200 polisher with the turbo wax adapter it's awesome ..... Bwhahahahah but seriously I couldn't agree more and I have customers that say 5000 grit is there such a thing. Lol. When it first came out I was at PPG school in Connecticut and the instructor said 5000 was designed for fresh paint and me being the guy painting and finishing of course I tried it on old paint and well you know the rest. That was years ago and I'm shocked that more detailers are not aware of it. Be well tty soon. I'll be at Mcungie car show end of August

Good afternoon Brian, In this video you mentioned that you started in a body shop. I was wondering how you got in to that? Did you take a class to learn or did you learn on the job? I am thinking about maybe trying to get into a body shop. Just wondering if I should go to a school (if there are any) and learn or if I should learn on the job. Thank you for your time and your videos. You are the best I have come across. Thank you again. Ronnie.

Brian to the point as usual and informative, just looking at some of the comments regarding removing the polish from the cracks, don't know if you have them over there but have you seen the foam brushes they have for crafts that lay down stain that are cut to a angle at the bottom, I have not tried them but i was thinking they might be spot on for the job , i found them on amazon uk as foam craft brushes...one thing i would be before I started to remove a scratch..i would spray soapy water on it to see if it go's. ..regards as normal Brian, rich.
