So I've been doing some digging into this hurricane and I have become very lost and hoping someone can help me here. According to other news the hurricane was hitting at cat 5 and was the quickest to reach a cat 5 this early. However, every news article about Texas claims it to be a cat 1. I know hurricanes can drop in strength but do they drop this quickly? Wishing everyone the best and safety, hope everything will be okay!

Cat 5 was over the islands slowed down over the Yucatan went back in gulf as a tropical storm close to shore it has picked up to a cat 1
That was 7 days ago before it crossed the Yucatan Peninsula which slowed it down. It will just barely be a Cat 1 storm as it makes landfall.
