Honestly, I have A LOT to say about this, but I’ll touch upon some the main ideas: 1. Although the concept and the idea is kind of basic, in the sense that it has been approached and re-approached a thousand times, the thing that makes this song and video special (for me) is the story behind it, the fact that Gracey said that this wasn’t rooted in (romantic) heartbreak initially, but it was rethought in this way after she gathered her feelings and thoughts about a certain period of time in her life (which I must admit, was certainly scary to even consider from the point of view of a non-singer, let alone what she went through.) 2. The emotion shown throughout the video is amazing, taking into consideration what I said above and the fact that (if I’m not mistaked) this is the first video in which she has more movement and more “acting” than in the previous ones (if that’s the correct term). It really shows the origin of the lyrics. 3. The way it captures the disinterested and distracted crowd in comparison with the the idea of the song is really nice, I must confess I got instantly sad and remembered a bunch of situations just like this one and now I’m really going to hold this song tighter to my heart. It also showed a great link between the idea of the video and the lyrics about going out, looking for distractions. I know she mentioned one of her friends with whom she discussed ideas, so I don’t know if this came from that friend, herself, the people shooting and editing this video or a myriad of these factors, but seeing how this is just the beginning, I’m seriously excited about her career and what she has in store for us. I really hope that she’ll make room for herself in the pop industry, or at least in this kind of heartfelt, singer-songwriter scene, and that she’ll be recognised for her talent and mastermind. Honestly, this is basically every weekend/going out instance for a lot of people and it felt great to feel like this wasn’t staged and wasn’t made to be “just another weekend banger”. I seriously love this.
