- On this day, John Lennon signed the contract that effectively made Allen Klein The Beatles’ new business manager, succeeding Brian Epstein. We're not exactly sure when it was signed, but the paperwork says May 8, 1969.
Klein had been unofficially handling Apple's business since February, 1969, but it took a good three months to get the contract sorted and signed.
Klein's big job was to sort out Apple's crazy spending. He also had to figure out how to stop Brian Epstein's old company, NEMS, now run by his brother Clive, from grabbing a quarter of their money. The choice to bring Klein on board went against what Paul wanted, but he got outvoted 3 to 1 by the rest of the Beatles.
🗣️ "John was going with Klein, and George and Ringo said, ‘OK, we’re going with John.’ I realised I was expected to go along with it, but I didn’t think it was a good idea - simple as that, really. Actually I asked Mick Jagger when he came round, ‘What do you think?’ He said, ‘Oh, he’s all right if you like that kind of thing.’ He didn’t really warn us off him, so there it was - and that then was the three-to-one situation. In The Beatles, if anyone didn’t agree with a plan, it was always vetoed. It was very democratic that way, so the three-to-one situation was very awkward and as a result ‘things’ would happen." - Paul McCartney, Anthology
Years later, Klein would sue the Beatles in 1973, and the decision was settled out of court in 1977.

Also on this day the beginning of the end for The Beatles business relationships. Allen Klein is responsible for almost all the conflicts that lead to all of them suing each other what a truly awful dude.
This also was the nails being driven into the coffin for The Beatles!!
There isn’t is a single person who broke up the Beatles but the breakup was made nasty and vicious because of Klein. I blame Klein entirely on John as he got so easily conned and then gave the hard sell to George and Ringo. So yeah there isn’t a single personal responsible for the breakup, but I blame it mostly on John
Paul was right. End of!
What a pity Yoko didn’t hook up with him instead.
Klein was a real crook! That's it!
They didn't need a manager at that time. They aren't touring the world. So they could have each became a manger for the group. Or none at all.
I wish Brian Epstein wouldn't have died. The Beatles may have let him go at some point, but maybe they wouldn't have.
