  • Slight detour, as I really really wanted to cover/extend this. It was one of those situations where upon hearing the original, I immediately could hear the new riffs in my head. Also, this one technically has the honor of being the channel's first commission! Many thanks goes out to Niko for requesting and sponsoring this one! I very much enjoyed jamming out to this one \m/!
    For those unaware, the original "Decisive Dance" was basically a 10-second loop. Ironically enough, the last song that I had extended like this was also a Spidey cover (Waterfront Warehouse)! While looking into the song, I wound up discovering that the Genesis version had basically combined it with "Heated Battle" as well. The two just fit so well together, I just HAD to throw in Heated Battle in the beginning and end of the cover!
    When coming up with all the new riffs, I made sure to try my best to stay faithful to the mood and feeling of the original.
    I'm actually a few days late on this one, had a lot happen this past week: discovering the perfect guitar pick (never knew I needed the Jazz III picks in my life 'til now), experiments with soldering and electronics, and even a case of food poisoning. Its certainly been an adventurous week. Took me a little longer too, since originally I had estimated that the cover would only be slightly over 3 minutes, and instead it wound up becoming 7 and a half minutes!
    So picking apart things I had done for this cover, something else that wound up being time consuming was that I decided to go nuts with the synths. After mapping out the notes in MIDI, I wound up rendering out 11 different sounds/synth-patches. From there, I went and layered them all together. Quite happy with how the synths turned out, both the main background synth, as well as the lead synth for the "Heated Battle" parts.
    Speaking of "Heated Battle", its been forever (ok, so since a little before this time last year) since I got to use one of my guitar slides! As I listened to the synth in the original, I immediately thought, "oh this would sound awesome with a slide!" and so I busted out my wonderful chrome slide. Which actually surprised me, since my glass slide had always been my favorite to use for recording. Thinking back on it, the last time the chrome one had gotten some love was back on Hypernova from my HORIZONS album! Really loved how the synth and slide-guitar combination sounded (0:47, 6:37).
    As for the rest of the leads, I'll keep things short, since I could spend forever typing about each of the new riffs. I had so much damn fun noodling and riffing around on this one. Its always a wonderful feeling when a song/cover just really meshes and gels well with my playing. My new favorite pick certainly made things even more fun too (feels like I'm effortlessly gliding across the strings). One lead part I particularly liked was when I did the tremolo-picking at 4:17 (also really liked playing the groovy section before it). During the trem-picking, giving a boost to my Reverb and Delay Sends/aux-channels had really nailed the sound and tone that I had in my head.
    Lastly, something that I did a little differently on this cover was sending my bass track off to an aux-channel, and throwing on an EQ (to roll off everything below ~500hz), and a tubescreamer. The distortion isn't particularly aggressive, but I felt like it helped the bass stand out a bit better.
    Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed rockin' out with me on this cover! ~DAR

    I think this is the first time I’ve heard someone finally nail a cover of this song. Thank you for doing one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite childhood games ever and making it perfect.

    Wow, I never expected someone would nail this one. It's so overshadowed by the other tracks on the OST because the theme is split into two variants in the game, but the first time I heard someone do a mashup and realign them into one song I was hooked. This does justice and then some to the music. Thanks so much.

    This is so good I can't stand it. I have always loved this soundtrack, but this cover brings it right into modernity exactly as it should be. I would repeat this endlessly if it was on Apple Music.

      Thanks! As much as I'd love to be able to get this distributed on to streaming platforms, I'm unfortunately unable to. Mainly due to technicalities and licensing issues. Mash-ups such as this (as well as being greatly extended/expanded upon) fall into a different category when it comes to licensing. While not impossible, there's certainly more hoops to jump through compared to normal covers (bit more trouble than its worth!). ~DAR

    Man, the tremolo picking and the slide sections are sick, as is the rest of the track. Also, welcome to the Jazz III club. Tremolo picking must've felt like butter with the new pick :P

      Yeah, the Jazz III's are an absolute joy to play with!
      Its actually pretty funny how I wound up becoming a Jazz III convert over here. I've used the typical celluloid Fender Mediums for over a decade, and had only tried JIII's once. At the time, I thought that they were too small. So, fast-forward to now: I had (greatly) worn down the same pick that I've been using since at least 2016 or '17. Upon deciding to retire the poor thing, I realized that a brand-new pick just felt way too big. Turns out that my worn pick was pretty much the same length as a JIII! Stopped by the guitar store on the way home one day and picked up a little variety pack of 7 different JIII picks. Best 8 bucks I've ever spent!

      @@DAR-Davester2296 I've been using regular Jazz III's and XL's for a while now. Regular picks feel like wielding a woodblock now. Different picks can make a pretty big impact on your tone. Sometimes that's all that's needed, instead of a new amp/sim.

    My man even got the angry red glow going on. True to the source. Glad you finally got to show that chrome slide some love again. Seriously guys, if you haven't listened to his original stuff yet, at least check out Hypernova. It's such a damn treat for the ears.
    But damn, 7 minutes? Lol you're gonna make me work on this one bro. Time for me to do my thing. Look forward to it.

      Looking forward to it, man \m/! Also, if it helps any, I was working at 96bpm for my tempo.

    • @NTAD
      @NTAD 2 роки тому

      @@DAR-Davester2296 Slower bpm does tend to be easier to work with but it's more an issue of finding a good spot where it's not too soon but not too late, if that makes any sense. On a lot of the tracks I work with I could be rewinding and cutting for hours looking for just the right transition.
      Also just a little thing, but you mentioned in the description Hypernova was off NG. It's from HORIZONS. :p

    • @DAR-Davester2296
      @DAR-Davester2296  2 роки тому +1

      Wouldn't the start and ends of measures/bars be a good spot to cut and transition at? Maybe some fiddling with crossfade and/or fade-in and fade-out times for joining the parts together? At least that's how I would approach it, not sure though since I've never dabbled in extending audio before.
      Also, derp, can't believe I typed NG, instead of HORIZONS! Fixed it now, and fixed another typo I spotted. Thanks for catching that!

    • @NTAD
      @NTAD 2 роки тому

      @@DAR-Davester2296 I've worked with fades before but it's situational and doesn't generally result in the kind of quality I aim for. Two examples are Tatta Hitotsu no Houhou which was when I was less experienced and the other is the Modern Warfare 2 suite where I strung together 3 different tracks. I was actually really pleased with how well the latter turned out.
      The primary option I try to go with most of the time is, as you said, between measures but depending on the dynamics of the track that doesn't always work out either. Prime example? I _still_ haven't been able to cleanly loop Aetherius. :D
      Most of the time I just end up doing a lot of them playing it by ear. Occasionally I might have to move things around to get what I want like I did with ETF off the Quake II ost. Similarly, I just did a kickass 1hr workout loop for Koma's mix of David Levy's "The Trial of Maligog". It's my favorite Doom Eternal dlc track and I knew I'd be able to do something with it. Just waiting (hopefully not in vain) for his blessing before I post it.
