I have played around with many different sawhorse designs. I make mine the same way but I just use some scrap webbing instead of rope. To me, this is the easiest, fastest method and uses the least amount of materials. And the folding sawhorse take up little space and are easy to move around.
Good tip on pre-drilling for the hinge and standing the things up. Thanks,
