Another fun fact there’s a 1930’s interview of a man who had also witnessed the assassination, he also stood on the porch as they took Abraham Lincoln’s body across the street

even if he had done it earlier it wouldn't have helped him as he created the secret service to combat counterfeit money which was a big problem then. Even over 20 years later the secret service didn't prevent James Garfield from being shot.
In all the reenactments I've ever seen, they never really show Wilks Booth breaking his leg. There was a game show from the 50's where they had a 90 something year old man who saw it happen when he was five and he said in an article that he wrote, that when Wilks Booth jumped down, he was obviously hurt and he wondered why no one was helping him. He didn't realize what happened. All the reenactors play off the broken leg like it was no big deal, but it actually was. They should have been able to catch him sooner.
@Alex Yeah, but they made it look like it was no big deal. The guy from the game show said he was actually hurt pretty bad, and noticeably to the point where he was wondering why no one was helping him.
@KaydenFr Here it is. They have the article he wrote, where he said he wanted to help Wilkes-Booth, at the end of this video, too. ua-cam.com/video/1RPoymt3Jx4/v-deo.html
In the mini-series 'Manhunt' that was just released last month on Apple TV, they show Booth trip as he leaps from the president's box, breaking his leg as he lands on stage. I highly recommend you give it a watch.
It actually is a myth that Wilkes Booth broke his leg at Ford's Theater. It's been proven that Samuel J. Seymour (March 28th, 1860-April 12th, 1956) on "I've Got a Secret" misremembered it. Think about it: he was only 5 years old at the time. The myth started from a magazine/newspaper article in which Mr. Seymour most likely appropriated the memory. In reality, Wilkes Booth broke his leg during the manhunt, most likely when his horse fell on him.
I’ve been in Fords theatre! The only thing I could think of was this scene!!! I saw Lincoln’s booth and I could imagine the scene right there😂😭😭 it was amazing. The theatre was rlly nice and elegant. I loved it❤️❤️
My history teacher taught me that seconds after shooting lincoln, Booth tussled with Lincoln's guard and ended up stabbing him I think over a dozen times. This assassination was also part of a coordinated conspiracy. Two other important political figures were almost assassinated that same night. I believe both survived. I also forget most of the details, but booth had timed it just right so that there was no guard on duty to guard the staircase that led to Lincoln's booth. I wish I had written this down because its really fascinating.
