    Thanks sl1p for the wonderful advice. I actually started making ARK videos because of you guys, so really, you guys in the pooping evolved server are my inspiration. :)
    I agree, talking to your computer the whole day some seem kind of silly, but if you look at the other end and see how much you are able to give happiness to other people, it makes the picture really look amazing. So thank you for what you do, and thanks for always being an inspiration!

    I know a lot of people think the "have fun" part is tired old nonsense but it's very important. If you're not having fun then viewers WILL be able to tell that and many of 'em won't be nearly as interested in watching you not have fun.

    I absolutely love this slip. Success secrets are universal. Lots of wonderful books on self help and people skills that do wonderful here in the UA-cam community. I love how you explained why having fun is important. A lot of people I have noticed have wonderful intentions when starting a channel, but like what you said they base their happiness or ability to make videos in the comments, or likes, subs, etc. and not on are they happy and enjoying what they do. That is what has to happen to keep a lot of us going when no results at being shown for the effort. This is one of the best videos I have seen and your heart was clearly shown. 1 million subs will be here sooner than you realize. Be blessed.

    So great hearing you mention Philly D. One of the first (maybe the first) person I ever subscribed to on UA-cam. Also regarding the breaks thing, it's kind of insane how quickly that starts to take effect. I had a streamer friend who mentioned that if you stop streaming for like a week, you can lose a good chunk of followers. It never really made sense to me. How are so many people keeping such a close eye on their sub/follow list that they'll jump ship after a few days? I usually only unsubscribe every few months and I just happen to notice that I'm still subbed to a channel that hasn't uploaded in a while.

    I think a lot of people forget too that it's a lot of time and energy it takes to make videos. I do outdoors skills, some of which could be used in survival (but I also love gaming). But juggling real life and a channel that posts weekly can be taxing, and I started tripping up. So recently I decided to not go the way of my normal content and have fun with it. Instead of going on adventures or showing gear, I decided I'll show people me experimenting with cooking. I'm a small channel that doesn't make money, so you got to have fun with it. Love the channel man, a lot of good advice that I will use.

    hey Sl1pg8r. if you want to get into charity livestreams, my sister has a disease called Cystic Fibrosis, which effects the lungs and other parts of the body. It is deadly. it drastically shortens the life span of people(my sister is 9) it would really mean a lot if you could look in to that. charity live streams could be for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. let me know if you would like to know more about it. I have links if you would like. thanks.

    I think the reason UA-cam channels fail is because people don't see it as a job - they see it as a fun, casual thing that they do every so often. But the reality of it is digital content creation is a job. You need to invest not only a lot of time into it, but money as well.

    • @supadicko
      @supadicko 9 років тому +1

      That's true, but that only goes for people who are already succesful. Most people who start now are doing it with the 'youtube money' in the back of their heads. Instead they should focus on doing what they enjoy.

    • @matthewgriffin4068
      @matthewgriffin4068 9 років тому +1

      but if people see it as a job they might be less relaxed instead of it being really fun

    • @Haladmer
      @Haladmer 9 років тому

      +Matthew Griffin The catch is really finding that balance point for "you". You have to take it serious on some level, you have to be willing to accept that you will fail at times, and still be able to have fun doing what you do. Sl1pg8r has found a balance that works for him and his style of content creation, it shows in both the size of the community (because he's an awesome entertainer) and the quality of content he creates (see the size of this community again)
      +The Dictator I recently made the jump from "viewer" to creator earlier this year, and while the stories of the "big channels" are obviously there, I made the jump without really expecting to be one of them. Obviously I can only speak to my own channel and goals on this, but I think you might find a lot more of us do it because we enjoy doing it then you seem to be giving us credit for.
      Do we want to be huge like the "mega-stars"? Sure, I think a lot of people want to be "rock stars" at some point, but that's a "great if it happens" kind of thing for most of the UA-camrs I talk with. But again, your mileage may vary depending on the person.

    • @cole2999
      @cole2999 9 років тому +1

      Yeah, I'm not saying that you can't have fun, but you need to understand that at the end of the day, it is a career choice.
      I work at UPS, and I can't just not go to work for a week because I want to go on vacation. I also can't just stop for a while because I'm getting bored, or this or that. I can take breaks, but only when I take the prepare for it. Just like I need to schedule my vacation days ahead of time, so does a UA-camr. Sl1p prepares by pre-recording and continuing posts while he's gone. I've seen people who instead take a laptop with them and just play some lighter games in their off-time. Or take vacations in 2-3 day periods.

    • @matthewgriffin4068

That's what I do for my own streams is look for inspiration from other streamers like yourself and learn not only how to be a better streamer but also a better ark player as well even though I'm playing my own style and learning as I go. It's because of streamers like you that made me want to try it and actually open up vocally since I'm extremely shy. Thank you so much ... Thanks Sl1p. AWESOME vid Bro. Lots of great info here to soak up! I have been watching UA-cam for years and tripped over your channel at the beginning of last Ark Season. You and Z have become my go to channels. Why? Because you guys have fun. At least you sure fake it well. You also pride yourselves in the fact that your channels both have PG content. Which, from what I have seen, the vast amount of gaming channels out there do not have. I will be starting a Channel in the next month and You and Z have inspired me to go for it. I'll probably will only get two or three subscribers and I'll be related to both of them but I figure Im going to play games anyway. I might as well shove my hand into the UA-cam blender and see what comes out. Have a great vacation Sl1p!!

    Thanks sl1p for this video. Eventually (probably after highschool maybe) I want to start a channel, and videos like this I think will be a huge help for when I start. This one said something that I haven't heard before, "you won't have views sometimes." and that's something I know will be... odd and unmotovational for me, so thanks for addressing it. Good video.

    Hey Sl1p!
    Just wanted to tell you I am a great fan of yours.
    I really like your style, how you do your videos... you make me laugh a lot and smile the whole time.
    Your words in this video made me smile again, for a whole other reason: Because you REALLY like what you are doing, we all appreciate it... a lot !
    Please go on, be as you are. You really care about us... as persons.
    I hope my words do make any sence (english is not my native tounge).
    Just be sure: we LOVE you!

    Hey, I'm been watching for a little while (not subscribed, just peeping in from time to time) and this video shown me that you aren't just a goofy guy hanging out with his subscribers, but an intelligent and hard thinking goofy guy that likes to hang out with his subscribers. Thank you, Sl1g8r, for being awesome and you now gained a new subscriber. I hope your channel continues to grow and you get to continue to do what you love doing! :)

    Hey Slip I recently (like in the past month or so) I decided to start making UA-cam videos and it's something I had been talking about doing for over a year now. I found it really hard to stay motivated and I kind of gave up. But this video right here helped me to realise that it's not going to be super easy and a lot of work has to go into it. Thanks for the great video and words of wisdom and being my inspiration to start making videos and having fun. I love watching your videos and one day I really hope I can play some ARK or some other cool game with you. I really hope "the stuff and things are with you"

    u don't use the new feature since last patch? The T key bind to transfert item from an inventory to another as easier than the O key to drop stuff. It's a relief to use that now

    Great video, Sl1p! I've been thinking of recording my stuff for a while now, just to learn the mechanics of doing so, and maybe work toward creating a UA-cam channel. I think it'd be fun, but I'm sure it's more work than I realize!

    I am not a UA-camr, however, I would like to add on to what Sl1p said. I want to say that you also have to be aware that you will be criticized if you choose to pursue a career in entertainment. There will always be people that don't like what you do and that, for some reason, constantly talk bad about what you are doing. Sl1pg8r, however, is one of those people who can look past the few who don't appreciate what he is doing and is able to really focus on the viewers who do admire his videos and his upbeat personality so that he is able to make videos that the viewers will enjoy. Overall, what I am trying to say is that you have to accept the fact that some people won't like you and you need to move your focus away from those people and instead focus on the ones who do admire you so that you can make them happy.
    Aside from that, Sl1p you are doing a phenomenal job on the videos, keep up the outstanding work, and keep bringing joy to your viewers.

    I really love your advice and as you said, alot of youtubers give advice about having fun. Personally, I have lots of fun making videos but i'm busy like every week day and sometimes saturdays. Really, I cant be uploading and recording daily maybe sometimes. I can stream for an hour or so and thats it. Thanks for the advice sl1p, I appreciate that you care for the struggling youtubers.
