I am currently demoing this paddle. The demo paddle has no grit left at all and I'm still getting excellent spin. It was a concern for me as well but not anymore.
Fair enough!
I plan to get the S2 since I don't need the longer handle. (ping pong) grip. Twist is reduced and better control with this grip. Paint grit would be my "con" for the LUXX.
All great points and yeah paint grit is hard to justify for a paddle that's this expensive but it does feel damn nice off the face I have to say.
Do you like the luxx better than the Perseus ?
Totally different paddles. The Luxx is far more control oriented than the Perseus.
Great in-depth review! Appreciate your content
Thank you Kate! :) I really appreciate that!!
Looks great, but I’m weary about that spray on grit. If it’s like the power air, that spin was great for about 2-3 months and then sharply fell off. I was playing about 8 hours a week, ended up selling it though (the power air)
100% agree man trust me I really do
@@stspickleball is Selkirk the only company that uses spray on grit or on other Selkirk paddles? if not how long does other paddles spray on grit last?
It’s all relative but the spray on stuff if you’re playing a lot only lasts maybe 4-5 months max usually less. But if you’re more casual of a player it’s a safe bet if you want to go Selkirk. There’s a few other companies using it but it doesn’t last nearly as long as raw carbon fiber / Kevlar paddles
Wonderful and thorough review per usual. Do you like this more than the Spartus Ballista?
If you put them both down in front of me and price was not a factor I would grab the Luxx. With price included I would say it's a bit of diminishing returns but if you can swing it price wise I would say the Luxx is better yes.
I bought the Luxx invikta recently. Love the control but found the swingweight a bit high for my flicks. I've seen online that it's only 115 but it feels heavier for some reason. Do you think the Epic shape would solve this?
It likely would yes 😊 or just move to the Mach 2 Forza 14mm which is just better in all aspects 😊
When are you going to test balls for playablity and endurance in 2024 club wise to we use a lot of them
Like test balls for durability?
Dang I just bought the double black diamond.
Based on his other Selkirk videos, I think you’re better off
Both are wonderful paddles. DBD is a top tier all court paddle you really can't go wrong with the DBD. The Luxx is very control oriented and soft off the face. Depends on what you're looking for from a paddle but the DBD is 100% top tier and you will be very happy! :)
Hey I’m getting a new paddle would you recommend the LUXX Epic or Invikta
Invikita if you want a touch more power, epic if you want more control!! ☺️
Are you using the same lead set up on it? You made this video before you started experimenting with your twistweight computer so just wondering.
I’m using 2 8” strips of tungsten starting 1” from the throat up the sides of the paddle ending right before the top corner curves 😊
And that’s 2 strips parallel to eachother on both sides so 4 strips total
@stspickleball I was looking at photos of Jack Sock to see if I could find what lead set up he uses. He actually uses the one you recommend above. I still wonder what the twistweight and swingweight of this set-up is though?
How long will the grit/spin last? Too expensive for spray on grit.
Fair. Alot of people love this paddle including me. But it does have a fairly rough decline in spin in my testing now after quite a lot of usage. Hard to justify. I’m putting together my top 5 spin video right now and after analyzing everything I’d just grab a BALLR Heat as it has over 2100rpm of spin and is utilizing Toray T700 carbon fiber and it’s only $126 after discount code. Love the shape and feel too. Gen 2 and a one piece handle. No exposed polymer.
I know this isn't a comparison vid but could you please quickly comment on: your thoughts on this Luxx Invitka vs the GB Pro Control Elongated? for overall performance , hand speed at the net, and also in the power /pop department between the 2? Love your content!!!
Absolutely! Always here to help :) really the pro control elongated gearbox paddle will have quite a bit more power and pop than the Luxx. The luxx will have more hand speed, less pop, less power, but a lot more feel and control, and is a bit more stable in hand due to a slightly higher twist weight. I would say if you are going for control specifically to go with the Luxx. Also taking into consideration all of the weird quality control issues with the gearbox paddles (reported weight variance of 7.5-8.5oz along with a lot of people being let down by the power (which I think really needs a break in period)) the gearbox paddles might need some time to organize and settle a bit. But! Make sure to add lead tape if you get a Luxx. It really comes alive with lead tape!
Thanks!@@stspickleball
Have you or will you review the Sword and Shield J2 paddle?
I was contacted by them but I didn’t notice anything great about that paddle so I’ve put my attention elsewhere for the time being. What peaked your interest in it?
Used this paddle today. A cheat code for dinking is how it felt.
I actually agree with this 100%
@stspickleball Are you still using it with this lead set up? If not, what's the new setup with twistweight and swingweight?
I am yes 😊😊
How would you compare the luxx to the bread & butter Loco? Loco seems to be on the softer side for a thermo based on what I've been seeing.
Yeah tbh I’d skip both of them and get a Mach 2 Forza if I were you 😊😊
@stspickleball I tried the Forza but wasn't a fan of the short wide shape.
@@robedwards6926 oh dang really? What’s your ideal shape and what are you looking for from a paddle I can help you navigate it
@@stspickleball I love my Mach 2 Forza.
So is this better than the gruvn muvn 13s or what?
Ultimately I would say yes but then taking into consideration price I think you would need to analyze what you are looking for from your paddle. If you want something super plush and soft and don't mind losing some hand speed then the Luxx for sure, but the MUVN 13S is still so fast and so agile it's an incredibly unique paddle that has amazing control. MUVN 13S for hand speed and shot placement, Luxx for something soft and traditionally control oriented :)
How do you compare this to the Volair Mach 2 Forza? Which do you like more?
Mach 2 Forza by far 100%
@@stspickleball just ordered the 14mm Volair Mach 2 and used your code. Thanks.
You rock you’re gonna love it!!
Are there any paddles you don’t like?
Of course! I don't like the Perseus, the new C2 CFS, the Vatic Pro Alchemy, the Legacy Pro. Just to name a few. But, the reality is most of these paddles these days are coming from the same manufacturer in China and they have a lot of the same tech. So when it comes down to it it's hard to find a bad paddle these days as they are all thermoformed and really quite solid. I just want to touch on the subtle nuances on how they may end up helping your particular game. Thanks for the comment!
what weight did this paddle come in at?
I have weight on mine now! It was definitely around 8oz though.
@@stspickleball thank you!
It will be interesting to see how the grit paint generated spin lasts compared to the T700 faces... Will Selkirk repair/replace on warranty the paddle if the grit paint wears out?
They are fairly lenient so you may be able to finagle that on a good day. I’d bet not though. And yes time will tell! But as of now I’ve had mine for over a month and I haven’t noticed any loss in spin yet which is solid. I’ve used it a lot and figured I would have lost some by now honestly.
@@stspickleball Please keep us posted if you see any wear! Thanks again for what you do!
@@stspickleball For it's price, the grit needs to last a long time. I am not sold on buying any paddles with spray on, carbon fiber seems like it would last many times longer.
@@ron2368 oh it does for sure and I totally agree 100%
Bleeping noise scares my dog. Lol
Does it really? 😂🤣
For sweetspot and control, could you elaborate the differences between the LUXX Invitka and the LUXX S2?
I mean the S2 will definitely have a larger sweet spot and better control. I think I like the Invikta because it’s kind of the best of all worlds and I love a more elongated paddle for drives and serves. But the epic and the S2 will ultimately have a better sweet spot and better control for sure 😊
@@stspickleball Cool. I don't have power issues with my Prism Flash, but a touch more pop would be nice. Fortunately I just got notification that my muvn 13s has shipped so I can put off the $250 decision for a while! Thanks for your great reviews!
How exciting do you love it?
@@stspickleball the Muvn 13s has really just opened doors for me as far as my drops and putting spin on my ground strokes. It is a really great fit for where my game is right now. Thanks again!
@@Guy_Washburn love this this makes me very happy. Nothing more fulfilling for me than receiving feedback like this. Thank you!
Any chance of a BnB Loco review coming soon? I would like to get your input since you also use mainly the Forza. I’ve read a couple reviews on it but no have seen anybody review it yet.
I have one on the way! I don’t have super high expectations for it but we will definitely see!
@@stspickleball I’ve heard the Filth is more powerful. It is a cool looking paddle though.
@@zmaust15 filth is definitely more powerful yeah it kind of has an El Pollo Loco vibe from breaking bad I feel 😂
@@stspickleball Definitely does 😂 but what I really want to see is the hot sauce review!
@@zmaust15 lol right 😂😂😂
How would you compare this to the Gamma Airbender? Can you compare the difference in feel to the 14 Mach 2 Forza? Thanks!
14mm Mach 2 Forza has a larger sweet spot, better spin, and more stability. It's also cheaper :)
@stspickleball What about maneuverability with a two-handed drive, volley, and dink? Those are my favorite shots.
I have always found two handed shots to be a little harder to do with a standard shaped paddle. But still doable of course. I do prefer an elongated paddle though for 2 handed shots :) have you tried two handed shots with a standard shaped paddle before?
@stspickleball I often use the ALW 12.7 Bantam-C, and it took me a bit to feel comfortable with the two-handed backhand. I do prefer a handle length of 5.3 inches.
Are you going to do a review on the new Diadem Edge 18k Power Pro?
I’m thinking about it! I have a lot of paddles I want to get to first. I can definitely say for certain it feels a lot like a CRBN 1X very firm because of the 18k carbon fiber and the spin is really great! But the sweet spot is a bit tight. Not really an outstanding paddle for me personally but not bad either 😊
@@stspickleball how is the swing weight compared to the edge 18k?
@@CamdenM1 swing weight on the 18k is 122 😊
@@stspickleball Thank you so much. Keep up the awesome videos.
@@CamdenM1 heck yeah thank you!!!
Where do you put the lead tape?
I show this in the video. I explain that I put 1 5” strip of 1g per inch lead tape starting one inch out from the grip up the paddle on both sides.
You love all paddle for money.????
Oh absolutely not, I have a discount code for every manufacturer and these days its hard to find a bad paddle. Why would I say the Luxx is bad if it's a solid control paddle? I explained many cons in the video. But I'm not just going to say a paddle is bad just because I feel like I need a review that says a paddle is bad that would be idiotic just like your comment.
@@stspickleball love your reviews. Keep it up. I totally have not gone wrong by your recommendation. Love my Mach 2 Forza and my Gruvyn Muvyn 13 S. Going to try the Apollo next.
Another detailed fantastic review keep them coming. Although not sure my wallet can take it🤣
Hahaha fair enough! 😂 just always remember to analyze what would best suit your game right now. There really aren’t any “bad” paddles coming out as much as I’d love to jump on a bad paddle so my reviews don’t seem so consistently positive. It’s all about what will strengthen your game more for sure. Love the comment! Thank you!!
Cheers! Hey I’m gonna be in Scottsdale next week staying at the HYATT Gainey Ranch where is a good place to play some Pickelball if I don’t have a partner?
Where did you end up going?!
Sadly didn’t play while I was there this time🥲
@@stewartpress8586 aww lol fair enough!
