  • We know that chameleons change color. But did you know that those color changes can communicate what a chameleon is feeling? Colors change with age, temperature, and emotional state. The chameleon could very well be the reptile most able to communicate with humans - if we learn their language. Today I give you an introduction to speaking your Panther Chameleon’s language!

Lol, chams and blending in to their surroundings....I have a picture of a neon green cham trying to hide from his medication with his neon coloured butt sticking out of the dark leaves like a toddler playing hide and seek then choosing to hide under the table whilst giggling...and about as effective.
My chameleon flashes his sleep colours briefly when i enter the room before going to his more normal happy greens. I've only seen his angry colours twice, once when he tried to flirt with a beardie in the petstore and didn't get the answer he was hoping for and another when he was shedding and the lights came on and for some reason he got upset over something that happens every single day at the same time.
Another of my chams has a weird obsession for baseball caps and always turns colour and tries specifcally to grab the hat regardless of what else is around him.
And why are females so overlooked by people? They're just as pretty like you said. And definitely dramatic. Very dramatic. Mind I only have one lady so she may be an outlier I do t know but she not only gives me one karate arm but two, until recently. Now she just side eyes me and reluctantly snatches the proffered food.
I don't think may people realize just how intelligent chameleons actually are. And they certainly show preferance. Some of minehave been know to climb all the way down a person, walk across the ground (where chams dont generally want to be), and climb back up me whe i dont take the hint. He always comes up to the door when he sees me even when hes not actually interested in coming out.
The breeder I got my very first cham from made me take a picture of my enclosure and supplements before even considering selling to me. Also delayed pickup because the clutch mine was born with were born small and she didn't want to let them leave until *she* deemed them healthy enough and old enough to thrive in a new environment. Which is oneof the reasons I still buy from her and recommend anyone else to buy from her. 15yrs later and a few more from her and we are still in touch. When I had to put my first guy down because of age related health issues I still asked her if she wanted to be there as she had been for everything else. A good breeder is such an important start.

Thanks, this was interesting. I wonder to what extent this description applies to other chameleon species as well - perhaps there should be a series of separate videos on the 'colour languages' of every one of the more commonly kept species. Although I suppose that the general principles would be mostly the same, with just the specific colour patterns varying by species.
