Sadly, no one talks about the fact that women guaranteed large payoffs is probably influencing and helping women to get divorced. Wrap your mind around this; one of the most ridiculous laws California has, allows a woman to claim rights to half your home that you owned prior to even meeting her, if she merely lived there for 5 years or longer! You do not think that law has any play in guys in that situation to break up and kick their woman out within 5 years if marriage wasn't in the cards? The joke about using prostitutes would be much better and cheaper than getting married, or in CA, dating a woman, rings so true that it is no longer funny.

I think the thank you is for picking up the cheque rather than the actual money paid. He did the little dance of who pays, asserted he would, and received a thanks for it. Larry going down the who earned the money route is the wrong approach.

So many people on here agreeing with Larry David. When you are in a marriage, money should not be seen as “my money”. Where does it end? “It’s my money and my house, and you [my wife] are a guest in my house I paid for.” Does anyone really want to make their spouse feel like they are living in your house because you paid for it with your money?
People who feel they can say whatever pops into their head make the world a very messy and uncomfortable place. Ironically this includes both the protesting wife.. and Larry lol. The difference being that Larry for the most part admits when he’s biased or being an asshole while most people who conduct themselves this way are very self serving. Larry is perhaps the exception that proves the rule.
This is like "the big salad" from Seinfeld, where Elaine thanks George's girlfriend for the big salad because she handed her the bag, even though George paid for it.
And what is your thought on that? I think Elaine was wrong. Elaine should have thanked George for having paid for it and the woman for having given her the salad. Elaine made a big deal where there wasn't one, just like Larry here. Thank them, if that's what they want, and move on with your life.
Just a matter of perspective and feelings on the subject. I don't think either are completely wrong or right. Practically and literally, the one making the money solely is earning the income and therefore could be argued as the "owner" of the money from a technical stand-point. However, the idea of marriage making all money both individuals money is still very valid if that's what the couple believes and decides on. Both parties contribute themselves to the marriage theoretically and the grace of the union is the idea of giving up the "mine" aspect of something like income-funds. All just depends on your upbringing, approach, and perspective on the situation. ....that being said, asking to be thanked is something else entirely though. XD
One problem with the world is how much we over value property and ownership. No wonder most marriages end in divorce. Women get tired of putting up with territorial men. The best marriages are ones where there is mutual respect for each other’s roles, responsibilities, and there is equality and power balance. One spouse does not make the other feel less than them, or as inadequate.
This one hits home for me. I would never ask someone to thank me of course but I always find it strange when the couple we are paying for only thanks my husband. When it's the opposite, I make a point to thank both the husband and the wife.
