Can you suggest a source for purchasing a plastic spoon dolly? All I can find are large metal tools used in automotive body repair. Really a Great video!
Try searching for "spoon stakes" I got mine from Proops here in the UK www.proopsbrothers.com/spoon-stake-tea-spoon-58mm-long-x-36mm-wide-forming-planishing-doming-s7357-1620-p.asp
Yes, you're right. I should have used the copper or hide hammer. I have a set of doming punches that I normally use but I was trying to use things that most people might have around.
As you might have noticed from my other videos my main interest is western action shooting so most of my work is on steel targetry. I would love to get more into metal art, particularly flowers, but I have no artistic talent so I need to do a lot of research on techniques etc. The thing I found with the flowers is, once they get seen around I am flooded with orders for them, which takes up a lot of spare time.
rofl, they're a pain in the ass aren't they. i'm curious just what exactly do you think artistic talent is? there is all kinds of different types of art, you said something about making targetry, i haven't watched any of your other videos but I'm going to step out on a limb here and guess by targetry you mean targets for shooting that do something. coincidentally, and kind of weird, I make moving and reactive targets for airgun shooting, I try to shoot everyday but at the very least i shoot a minimum of 500 rounds a week which has nothing to do with what we were talking about, my point is unless the targets you make are exact copies of someone else's target designs, you wouldn't be able to make target one if you didn't have any artistic talent. it's kind of ironic, the reason i asked if you were still doing metal art is because in the video i was watching you struggle (for lack of a better word) as you were trying to use your left brain to guide yourself through the right brain activities and it was making the job way more complicated then it had to be. there's no doubt that you are left brain dominant it showed in everything that you were doing in that video but your creative right brain side does work fine, it's just not as strong as your left brain after that no artistic talent statement, i'm going to make a recommendation for your own well being, you need to get back to making stuff that will allow your right brain to get some exercise and you need to be conscious of witch side your using when so you can shut your left side down when it starts over running your right side. i know this is way more then you were asking for but i needed to make you aware of this stuff to make things easier on you, it's kind of funny how you just walked into it for me....lol hope you don't think i've over stepped my bounds but I see someone struggling with the same thing I've struggled with I have to try and point it out to them so they can decide if and how they want to deal with it. ok i'll shut up now.... take care and if you have any questions or comments just shoot them at me...lol

They are often called "spoon stakes" If you are in the UK you can get them from Proops Brothers, otherwise try jewellery making suppliers.

Thanks for this well explained tutorial Mike. Is it still possible to have the tulip template emailed to me?
Send your email address to mike@coulsdononline.com and I will forward the template.
Nice video. But a word of warning. You never want to hit two hammers together. They are both hardened and could shatter.
