Thanks for preparing these videos, nice to learn from a craftsman and artist. And a special thank you for starting your video career out correctly by using a microphone from the beginning. Carry On please.
Hi, I just found your channel and subscribed to it! I've watched all 3 videos and although I've done some work with copper ,I learned soooo much from you! One thing is how to bend a leaf "back"! I've scrapped all of my attempts at it but can now make a form,,,,thanks to you sharing how it's done! I'm retired and do this as a hobby but LOVE working with copper! Thank you so very, very much for these videos and sharing your knowledge! I'm really hoping that you do more videos! Tom
Tom, I plan on doing some more soon. I do a lot of charity/donation pieces for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Race for the Cure, St. Jude, a local Children's museum and I just walked out of the shop finishing up one for ALS fundraiser for tomorrow night. And; somewhere in there I have to get my customer's work done too. But, I'm old and slow...but steady. Visit the FB page if you haven't been. Waterfall Forge Somewhere in here I'll get some more videos done too.
I know all about old and slow,,,especially in todays "everything is fast" society! In most cases you can't have quality and quantity and I'm a quality guy! I'll check you out on FB too! Tom
Gary, feel free to ask questions if you run into something that's giving you problems. I really am trying to find time to make some more of these. Maybe this week hopefully.
Cory; since I ca't go anywhere, I'll try to put together a few short ones. Anything in particular that you would like me to cover? Individual skills please, not finished items.
First time to your channel. Beautiful work, just amazing the creativity and craftsmanship you put into your work. Thanks for posting! I am looking forward to seeing your other videos also :^)
Thanks. I have been working alone for a while now, so not much time or energy to do the videos. My long time student helper who is now an occupational therapist, has been coming to help lately and I think it will be a long time second job for him. He can do just about everything I can now and even better, he's good at shooting the videos. We have talked about doing more soon, so check back.
Hi, thank you for sharing your work and process! What do you recommend for cleaning up excess solder or cleaning off old solder if I need to resolder something? Thanks for your help!
Pammy, let me know what setup you have. Do you use oxy/acetylene, oxy/propane or some other setup? What type of solder do you use? What type of work are you doing?
Thanks. I use 0 and 5% silver solder. Mainly 0%. I also will just braze directly when joining bronze and copper together. When brazing bronze rod to copper you will need to use High Temp flux. No need to flux when doing copper to copper. Harris makes a good flux product. I use low fuming bare bronze rods.
I'm trying to get around to it. I've been backed up a lot for a while and I have to sort of shift gears to do these. At my age, the gearbox doesn't work as smoothly as it once did.
Well, you are welcome to visit. Best plan may be to find a like minded friend to come with you and spend some time here and sometime sightseeing. We have some great places to go to within an hour of the shop, some much closer as in French Quarter (about an hour).Houma's House (20 minutes) other plantations within 30 to 45 minutes.
Would love to see more videos. I made a little tabletop fountain using your magnolia flower and turning it into a lotus. But I’m having trouble getting my small sculpture hot enough. I used an acetylene/air torch and extra easy silver solder from my jewelry making stuff and just can’t get the whole item hot enough for the solder to flow. Took forever. What do you recommend?
Catherine, sounds like you may need a larger tip if you are used to doing jewelry or; and this is a possibility, you have a heat sink soaking up your heat. What sort of table are you working on?
Catherine, I use an oxygen/propane torch but used oxy/acetylene for years. Both will get hot enough when you are working on pieces with more mass. The air/acetylene torch may work fine with jewelry sized pieces that don't have enough mass to soak up the heat you are trying to add but not hot enough to work with larger pieces. That is just my guess as I have no experience with air/acetylene. I use 0% silver solder and high temp flux.
New to this, and just LOVE what you are doing here! (When I say new, I mean newbie lol!) My question is, what is the tool called/size you are using to make the leaf veins? It looks like a Chisel but unsure. It's the best tool I've seen yet to make the veins! Please let me know, I'd so appreciate it! Your work is amazingly beautiful!!! Thanks, Kristy 🤗
Kristy; Most of the chisels are various sizes of masonry chisels; available at hardware stores or online at Amazon or EBAY or any good flea market. As I mentioned in one of the videos, you need to blunt them some and round the edges a bit so they don't cut through the copper. Use a hammer with rounded face to strike them. Get a neoprene pad to set your work on so you can get a softer line.
@@waterfallforge8320 Thank you so much! I just finished watching the video where you mention this. You are a wonderful instructor!! I really hope you'll release some new videos soon! 😁
Heather, I have been really tied up this past year and plan on getting some more videos out soon. It will be a little different, but I will do one of making a simple birdfeeder so you folks can make one as a gift, if you'd like. I'll do that this week coming up.Starting in January, I will try to get one out each month at least. Always feel free to contact me if I can be of any help in the meantime.
I was using a size 2 tip on my smith silversmith torch. I was working on my table covered in firebrick. It was only 10” tall. I was using handiflux paste flux.
Michel, I use low fuming bare bronze rod. I either use the rods directly with high temp flux or use with 0% hard solder and flux. Available at welding supply. I use mainly 1/4 and 3/16 for most things. Copper to copper won't need flux with the 0% solder.
I'll try soon. IDA deposited a pine tree across my house so I am in the middle of dealing with that. The new videos are on my list of things to do though. At least the tree missed the shop. See pics on my FB page. thanks
@@buddyholmes6317 have you tried Tik tok? You could pump out a short vid every now and then. That place is sort of lacking in coppersmiths, especially once of your caliber 👍
@@superzgredzio No, I haven't looked into it. I probably won't. Too much to do as it is. I will try to get a short one done for UA-cam soon. Copper birdfeeder, I think.

Thank you for your time, this helps me very much. Well done.

Thanks. Sorry about the delay between videos but, you know, life. I'll try to get some more out next year. And yes, echo chamber videos bug me too.
Great videos, I'm learning a ton. Thank you 👍

Brooke. I'm in Prairieville, LA about twenty minutes south of Baton Rouge and about 50 minutes north of New Orleans.
LOL I could tell you from the south. Dang it's a bit far from Tampa Bay Florida where I'm at.
