talking about sunnah, the prophet peace be upon him used to give water to drink to the cat and then use the rest of it for wudu, he would've never took away water from any living soul. next time don't deprive yourself from the reward of replenishing the animal, brother. may Allah increase us in knowledge. 1st hadith : It was narrated from Kabshah bint Ka'ab bin Malik that Abu Qatadah entered upon her, then she narrated the following: "I poured some water for him for Wudu', and a cat came and drank from it, so he tilted the vessel for it to drink." Kabshah said: "He saw me looking at him and said: 'Are you surprised, O daughter of my brother?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'They are not impure, rather they are among the males and females (animals) who go around among you." 2nd; The Prophet said, “ Yes, in every living being with a warm liver is a reward for charity.”
baarak Allahu feek. I genuinely think that you are missing areas that need to be covered with water. please consider checking with a fellow knowledgeable brother to verify..also, the 3 drops rule may not apply unconditionally - imagine you are supposed to wash your hands from fingers to elbows but you only wash an area at the forearm and 3 drops fall. that washing is not complete
