Before I watched the tutorial and the method used, I quickly tried to model the main shape by myself. I came up with the same workflow, but instead of leaving the circles number of vertices at 32 I lowered it to 10, then I build the surface with subD in mind. I used insets to get a circular edge flow on the circular surface, a grid is not optimal here. I am not an SubD cultist but this shape in particular is perfect for SubD modelling. It's faster and easier to do and more controllable.
Your tutorial very handy for exploring techniques. *But* . In this particular case... 2 neighbouring octagonal cylinders, flat face to flat face, tops and bottoms inset and punched through with Bridge Edge Loops for the holes, one rotated through 90. Bridge Edge Loops again (Blend Surface) between neighbouring flat faces, with a couple of cuts. Bevel. SubD. *All done* . No add-ons. No Booleans. No repairs. Nicely flowing topology. 🥸
I'd like to see this as a tutorial... this was just impossible to follow along and seemed liked a mess in the end... even though the overall shape/idea is really cool and challenging
Whenever I start to think that I'm finally getting good at Blender, I just watch one of Ponte's tutorials like this one and it makes me feel like an idiot at the beginning all over again. My biggest setback atm is that while I have the HardOps and Boxcutter add-ons, I really don't know how to take full advantage of them. Ponte uses them effectively and it really dramatically speeds up the workflow and generates superior results. That's where I think I want to get to.
Have you tried the free sci-fi terminal tutorial he keeps referring / linking to? I had the HopsCutter basics down before that was released so I haven't made it, but he says that it's geared towards people who are new to the add-ons. From there, it's just a matter of repetition to get the various most frequently used options down to muscle memory.
Dude, you a friggin' mad scientist when it comes to shapes. I can't speak for @Fisha, but I could've spent ALL DAY trying to figure out how you made that...and I never would've got it. Circles...really?!?!?!😫😂
Looks cool and helps getting from maya to blender. But idk if I just didn’t see it or something, but the topology between the holes and the rest of the body should be everything but good? I saw a lot of ngons there
Symmetrise just isn't working properly for some reason... Despite joining the objects, its just looping around itself or doing something weird. Was there a step to change the origin point that was left out in the tutorial?
Little advice for u my guy. It seems that u struggle a bit with recentering ur camera when u work on details. Try pressing , on ur numpad (obviously with numbpqd activated) and it recenters the camera to the selected. Hope that helps a bit and u don't need to recenter manually so annoyingly. Ur welcome. Nice vid btw. will look into the free course when I have time.
its very simple to model this in any cad software, like rhino or fusion360 then convert it back to blender through moi3d or some other software. For me its too much effort messing with verteces. Great work anyway!
Hello, thank you for your great videos. I think you are a specialist for difficult questions. I need help for the bottom of the PS Vita. I would like to model it in one piece, so with subsurface and open modifier. I've done it perfectly before with the notches on the side, but I lost the blend file. How would you go about it? Thank you very much.
Cool and clear tutorial, everything is laid out on the shelves and clearly shown, you're cool! One question is not on the topic of the tutorial, I liked the theme, can I download it somewhere or is it your custom theme? And these I'm tired of orange outlines)
@@Daniel-mo1iy why retopology by hand there are multiple plugins and softwares available for this like QuadRemrsher, instant meshes, moi 3d And now Plasticity is available for easy hard surface CAD modelling, its not good as solidworks but more than enough for hard surface modelling

I was thinking the same thing. I mainly use subsurf modifier to model stuff without addons at all.

Please redo it on your own tutorial, I'm interested in watching your solution 🙏
make a video! would love to see other ways of this being created! Also very appreciative of Ryuurui's method and explanation.
could you explain it more logically?
