- Welcome back to the train room for another steam engine review. Today we will be looking at a USRA mikado made by the mighty K-Line Trains. These were made in many road names in the final years of the company’s existence.
These were originally equipped with -
TMCC - No Cruise Control
Railsounds
Directional Lights
Puffing Smoke Unit
Electro-Coupler
Firebox Glow
Marker Lights
And many other fine details making this model a spectacular piece.
Lights used outside of the MTH Headlights provided in the kit - Evemodel LEDs on Amazon are sold in multiple sizes and colors
This locomotive was purchased from Iron Horse Trains of Hanover PA - make sure they stop by and check out their store.
Enjoy!
Happy Railroading!
Outstanding! 😮
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful model Nick and a great aquisition for you! Great job on the PS-3 update as well!
And what a shame K-Line's no longer with us, they made some VERY good stuff indeed!
While the USRA was and remains controversial to this day they DID come up with some excellent locomotive designs, so much so that many were kept in production for years after WW1. Hey, they put together a team of the best steam designers available and it showed.
Thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching! I miss K line for sure , especially the attention to detail on alot of their locomotives. Definitely agree that the USRA was an interesting time but those engines were a hit
Very nice! That locomotive is beautiful and the upgrades make it even better. I like the fan-driven smoke unit. My lone, MTH steam engine will cloud-up my entire train room and looks cool doing it. K-Line made some real good locomotives and cars. It is a shame that Lionel put the kibosh on them, just like Bachmann did with Williams. The USRA wasn't really good for the railroads, in the long-run. It stymied development and the government isn't a good overseer, in any way and it took a while for them to recover from USRA control. What the railroads did during WWII, was amazing. Coming out of the Depression in the last years of the Thirties and going right in to the war, they performed admirably. The lesson was learned from WWI and they were left alone, with the exception of the ability to order certain locomotives and cars, because of wartime restrictions on materials needed for the war effort. Either way, a great review on a fine locomotive and an excellent video, as always.
Thanks for watching! Those MTH smoke units have never disappointed haha they are also extremely easy to fix along with maintain. Definitely agree in regard to your comments of the USRA. It must have been an extremely difficult time for the railroads to have to comply with the mandates. I heard on our local PRR main that there were over 80 trains a day during WW2 and the traffic never stopped from York to Baltimore. Must have been amazing to see
I bought my K-Line PRR Scale Mikado on September 6, 2003 from Trading Post Train Shop in Cleveland, Ohio. I still have it and a NYC Mikado purchased in March of 2005. I have upgraded both of them to cruise control using the K-Line Cruise Upgrade Kits.
Very nice! They made the best stuff and I’m still buying their treasures at every opportunity I get.
Gorgeous steamer Nick.
Thanks for watching!
Very nice recall of the locomotive's history, you really did some research here!! Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching! Really appreciate the kind words. 🚂💨
Great video and really nice upgrades. Also love your layout. I have the B&O and Southern of this engine. Love how K-line put road specific details on the different versions of this model. I added cruise to mine, but the sound of yours is a nice upgrade.
Very cool upgrade! I love the black & white segment towards the end of the video too.
Thank you so much! Always like throwing those in there. I forgot to do a night time shoot in this video
Another great video about upgrading our locomotives. The thing I like about ERR over PS3 is that it is tackless. I also noticed that you got rid of that gooseneck tether, it looks so much better!! Other than this, I prefer PS3 because I love the independent volume control for each sound feature, something TMCC, ERR and even Legacy does not give you.
Thanks so much for watching! Both systems definitely have their place. I’ve have better luck with the PS3 items and I like how they include lights / wiring too. 🚂💨
Very nice engine. Made even better by you, that’s cool.
Thanks for watching!
Really awesome steam engine and nice review! I really like the sounds on it especially the whistle and the bell!
Thank you so much! The whistle I believe is from a C&O Berkshire or Greenbrier sound set on MTH’s proto sound library.
Engine looks and sounds great, thanks for sharing and posting.
Now that I live in the Hanover area, I'm getting to know Troy and Iron Horse Trains very well.
Thanks so much for watching! They are the best over there. They always have something new in stock. 🚂💨
@@NixCrossing That they do, my wife loves it there as well.
Nice loco thanks lee
