    Hi Woody, how kind to share your impressions with us! It’s a pleasure to see you again, even it’s only in your video.
    I always love to remember the Genos2 presentation in Berlin where we met us the first time.
    By the way - your video is shared here in our circle of musicians, and I hear a lot of comments about what a likeable guy you are!
    Hope to see you again someday!

    Thanks Woody. What a cool event, you must've been well chuffed to be invited along. An instrument being shown to it's extremes by super talented musicians. Indeed, in the right hands! I could never do these justice, but arrangers are great tools for us lesser talented players for fun!

    Oh my... I just sold my PSR-6300, and there it was in your video! Yeah, I bought it used probably about six or seven years ago, because I always wanted one when I first saw it in the very late '80s. It needed to go to a new home, though -- I haven't been using it much. Thanks Woody!

    Hi Woody,
    Thanks for this interesting news!
    Please go for th SX920 for a review - as it would also cover the smaller version.
    Honestly, I expected that the new mid-class keyboards are stripped-down versions of the Genos 2. If the new mid-class instruments just include Genos 1 sounds and styles, this would be a bit disappointing for me.
    Well, my PSR-S970 ist still very good. No need to change to a new instrument. If the old keyboard would break I would go for the new mid-class of Yamaha, sure.
    Kind regards from Munich,
    Thomas

      hi, the flagship psrs have always been a model behind, the sx900 was based mostly on tyros 5 with a little bit of G1. the 920 is G1 sounds with a little bit of G2 in the styles! 970 actually one of my favourites, it has some advantages over the sx. enjoy yours!

    I love a lot of Yamaha’s gear (recently bought a finger drum machine and a U3) but arranger keyboard’s in public use just remind me that the venue hasn’t paid enough for a band. Not saying the keyboards are bad, but having too much power in the wrong hands can be dangerous! For me, the Montage etc hit the right mark.

    It's amazing to see SA2 voices finally trickled down to PSR SX. That's been 14 years. I wonder if Yamaha could implement full Super Articulation to E483. I hope they will be not complacent this time they should learn with Roland making cheap keyboards that isn't terrible.

    Just to be able to actually get a chance to tell some of the developers what we honestly think is good, and what we think is bad would be a blast, but I really doubt it makes a difference. I actually am sure they would love to give us what we want, but what functionality goes in and not is not their decission. at all. Think most people have shouted at Yamaha for years to get just some more sound editing features in the Arrangers, but not gonna happen. Heaven forbid if a Genos or PSR would be able to bridge a bit between a pure Synth and a preset machine. Yamaha is too conservative in that department. 😕 But great video Woody 👍

    • @WoodyPianoShack
      @WoodyPianoShack  4 місяці тому +1

      having had a few discussions now, I think it does make a difference to provide feedback, and we had some nice brainstorms about future enhancements. but they got to move cautiously, whilst wanting to attract a new generation of players they don't want to alienate the more traditional users.

    • @mrdali67
      @mrdali67 4 місяці тому

      @@WoodyPianoShack Ya, but no doubt there is some things where more executive departments kinda tells you what is accepted and what is not. I think its generally a problem with Yamaha both in the Synth and especially the Arrangers that their support software lacks more than 10 years behind. Not that this is far better with eg. Korg. I find that their arrangers bridge a bit more between a synth/workstation functionality, but the support software also horrendous old school for the Kronos/Nautilus. They just threw a new designed chassis together for the Nautilus .. same old almost unusable pc software that korg havn't updated since the Kronos was released. And Yamaha is the same way also for the Montage/ModX. Where people could use some better software to work with custom samples and optimizing them.

    I had a sx 700 when it first came out and returned it within a week for several reasons, the touch screen was very low resolution and felt plasticky. The overall sound quality out of the box was both harsh and boomy at the same time and the keybed feel was poor. I had come from a Korg PA60 from 2003 so that says alot. I bought a korg PA700 and love it ! The last yamaha psr keyboard that sounded fantastic was the 900. These arrangers sound like toys. In terms if overall sound quality yanaha have gone backwards all the while tech has moved forward, they just don't want you to have both unless you buy a Genos and even then you need a decent pair of speakers not the same old satelites and sub from tyros 1. Sorry for the negative comments but i doubt either 720 or 920 have improved sound wise. Great video though !

      @WoodyPianoShack the PSRS975 and PSRSX900 both have a very cheap lightweight action and for Yamaha not to improve this, as well as adding aftertouch (at least on the SX920) is unacceptable IMHO. Keep up the great work with your videos, and i love your positive attitude, passion, and enthusiasm!

      @@mrdali67There are a lot of new features in the SX920 compared to the SX900. First of all there is an improved sound quality since they upgraded the Soundboard. It is pretty much similar to the Genos (1) in terms of Sound quality. The content has been improved by a lot. So there a a lot of styles coming from the Genos 2. You will hear the difference even in the old styles. The OTS are much better as well. For the first time we are getting the Super Articulation 2 Voices that were only available in the topmodels before. There are a lot of minor changes as well: Smart Chord (new Fingering Option), Better Voice Edit Screen, New Compressor for Drums with the option for leaving the kick drum out. You should try it. I will upgrade :)

      @@Aikkiang I already have a Genos 2 😉 but was more interested for those that don't have the budget for the top models, wether it's worth the upgrade to the 7/920 or better to get a used G1 for the better and larger keybed. Which I at first glance would recommend as long as you don't "need" those 2 onboard speakers in the SX models. Off cause there is some things that is cut away in the much cheaper SX models, but you get "most" of the Genos sound still so its not bad instruments.

    I honestly didn't hear anything that didn't already exist. The quality of the Ymh sounds is ok, but it's too subjective a criticism. I would say that fundamentally there is nothing new. Well done to the demonstrators but I remain of the opinion that in 2024 Yamaha could have dared and offered more.
    Furthermore, the AudioStyles/Audiodrim bug which also makes the AudioPhraser software useless remains unresolved. who knows, maybe someone will wake up sooner or later. It's definitely not a car I would buy

    I have a Roland arranger but I think all arrangers are seriously outdated. We should be at a stage now where VST's and arrangers are integrated, there's nothing more frustrating than paying for things you already have. I would literally buy an arranger with ZERO sounds if I could install my VST's and my samples into it and program styles in a Cubase style mini editor or preferably in the actual copy of Cubase and using my PC as the processor and audio device .
    I know it's grossly subjective but just throwing my opinion out there.

      It wouldn't work for styles. the styles live off the sounds they come with. That is developed together. You can't just go and throw random sounds at it, will never sound as good. Now, for sounds you play yourself, what you said is true of course.

    • @inline4forlife
      @inline4forlife 4 місяці тому

      I'm thinking of something like a typical arranger keyboard hardware but with a easy to use daw like style creator software that could be plugged into a PC via usb and edited on it with a monitor, keyboard and mouse and it can come with its own standard vst instruments (using vst instruments for the sake of a simplified integration and endless sound potential) so that the styles are developed alongside it as standard but as an addition when creating custom styles you can simply load your own vst's, effects, loops, chop up acapellas and edit them so that you are no longer limited, overly restricted and unhappy. Or maybe something like open labs Miko/Niko but as an arranger.
