My vent was sadly not placed as nicely as yours making this extremely fiddly, but I got there in the end and now I have a working fridge!! Thanks so much!!! 😁
Awesome, I just had a hab check and was told I would either need a new circuit board approx £600 or a new fridge approx £1700 so glad I found this video. It works perfectly again now without costing a penny! 👌🏼 Thanks again 👍🏼
This was our issue, away in 80° heat and fridge packed up and no hookup. Seen a previous post on one of the forums saying a 4mm gap (obs didn’t work). Just seen this so set mine to 10mm and bingo! Big thanks, weekend saved.
Hi there have a 2008 swift with a thetford fridge n112 and works fine on gas but not working on 240 put new element in and thermister in still not cooling any help would be great thanks.
I would get a service engineer just to check the connections for power coming in and going to the element, it sounds like the 230v either isnt coming in to the fridge or not getting to the element.
I think its the one at the rear which is just awkward, but depends how the vent sits, normally pulling the fridge forward will give more room though. But its just swap the wires from one to another then make sure the surround goes back on and everything fits back inside.
Hey Mark.. I have the same symptoms. I have changed the thermocouple for a new one and positioned it in the correct place. It now lights, most times it stops clicking, and will run for a couple of minutes and then decide to turn itself off? Occasionally it will just keep clicking and then turn off without running for a couple of minutes. So I haven't really improved it very much.. My next step is to clean all of the contacts on the PCB and try that but I am considering a new PCB.. Do you think I should be doing anything else before shelling out £120 on the PCB? Thanks
Hi, most likely it will be the pcb not sending the correct message, so yes contact cleaner on the connections and see if it improves. If not it sounds like the pcb at fault. Hope this helps. Thanks
@@Pilotharris Hi There. Very interested to read this exchange as I have exactly the same problem on. Thetford 3 way fridge (Model N97). How did you get on, please? Changing the pcb sounds a bit hairy... hope it worked out for you! Gordon
Hi, Yes, I swapped the PCB and it’s perfect now. 👍 The only issue I encountered was the plastic case that came with the new PCB. It’s a different shape and fitting to the old one and didn’t fit the old mountings. In the end I took the boards out of the new case and installed them in the old case and put it all back. It’s not a difficult job, just awkward access. Take photographs before and during the dismantling process. That way you cannot forget how it all goes back together!
@@Pilotharris Thanks for your reply and well done on the fix! Much cheaper than a dealer I should think. May I ask - are there any good websites you’d recommend for Motorhome parts and accessories, please? I need to do some updating and don’t really want to trail round outlets.
Hi all, i have a Hymer with an Electrolux fridge. It works fine on hook up & 12v, but switch to gas & the freezer works ok but no cooling in the fridge. Any ideas?
I have a Dometic RM7651L in a Bailey Senator, works fine on 240v but now in the heat it doesn't work on gas.The ignition is working and lights up ok but the fridge isn't getting cold.
There are a few things you can try, try removing the vent covers to allow more air, because its so hot the fridge thinks it got upto temperature and doesnt need to cool any more so its trying to cool the back of the fridge down, maybe creating some shade if its in the sun, if its awning side and you have an awning try and get some cooler air with a fan, you can get little fans to exract the heat via the top vent and remove the heat. Its just trying to get the rear of the fridge cooler so it can heat up if that makes sense.
@@thecaravanplace Both vents removed, fan positioned blowing from bottom to top overnight, burner still lit but no cooling. Only about 30cm of the black pipe from the heater got warm unlike when on 240v the whole of the pipe system was heated. I replaced the burner as the old one was well coroded inside.
@@sydmcdonald8988 the only other thing is if it is definitely cooling on electric, usually the fridge will start to cool at least a bit by doing this. If it doesnt seem to be cooling at all it could be a fault with the fridge. If you were able to check somehow on 230v? going to be the only way to be sure sorry. Maybe turning the caravan around if its in the sun light so that the fridge is in the shade is the only other thing I can think for you to try sorry.

Hi, I can confirm that the metal part of the electrode is fragile--- mine broke when i touched it ! -- looks like a metal failure job so now looking to replace the whole unit .Got get into the " black box " as it seems to be plugged in inside the box........
Always use a can of air spray and blow out the tube that office supplies the oxygenerated propane to end of vents on burner tube! If there is just a speck of rust dirt or bug in that orfice it won’t let propane through!
Mark I've an electrux fridge, the magnetic safety valve won't stay open, I've replaced the thermocouple and tested it off the fridge flame, it gives 30mvolts. I've changed the safety valve itself in fact I have 3 now.. As soon as I take my hand off the gas knob the flame goes out. What could it be.
Try removing the gas knob and put some card behind, it may not be pushing the gas valve in fully. Also the position of the thermocouple in the flame can make a difference so make sure it is around 10mm away from the middle of the flame but catching the edge of the flame. Hope this helps?
@@thecaravanplace i figured it out.. Where the thermocouple bolts to the fridge was missing a washer so it was earthing the tip of it nulling the signal. It was giving a signal when disconnected from the fridge but once I bolted it back on it earthed. Fit the washer bolted it back on and it fired up straight away. Thanks for your help tho.
Don’t know if anybody can help me but when I operate my fridge on gas there is a slight smell of burning plastic outside by the vent, I opened the vent and I can’t see anything burning and the flame seems fine, I’m just unsure about what the smell is.
It's usually a build up in the flue, you will normally get a slight black soot above the vent, it's worth having this checked and cleaned as it can be dangerous if this comes back into the caravan.
@@thecaravanplace I can’t understand how it would be blocked as I’ve never used the fridge on gas before. Would you say it’s not safe to use until it’s cleaned?
If its new and never been used then it can sometimes just smell, burning off the new basically. I would run it through the day, keep an eye out for black marks above the vent, if all seems OK hopefully the smell will then go after a while. I just wouldn't run it while you are sleeping until the smell goes. It should be fine though if it's a new van. 👍

Yes if power is coming in then very possible the pcb isnt sending the signal for the power to get to the element.
