      Yehp, exactly how now purists hate em so will the rifle purists hate this, let em, I’m sure they don’t love my thermal scopes and NV too 😂 opening morning I can go out and scout an track the elk herd in the dark waiting for opening day minute to come and then go boom with a regular glass scope. Meanwhile other guys will have to wait not being able to sneak up a couple hundred yards from a herd. Not my problem, it’s there’s, they’ve banned Thermals from being on the rifle that you take the shot with. But when working as a two man team you can easily carry a rifle a piece, one with a thermal preferably a semi auto .308 that’ll double as a defensive weapon against bears and then you got your hunting rifle with a magnification like say 5-25x in the mountains to bring it together. We’re far from muskets, the iron sight, and now we’re slowly and swiftly moving in to the smart scope era. It’s a beautiful thing, I’ll just go with the flow vs trying to fight it.

    • @TheOriginalFaxon
      @TheOriginalFaxon 2 роки тому +1

      Yea one would assume that the tech they developed was fundamentally sound, it was just the hardware was insecure. A computer aided gun is going to come to market eventually, that's guaranteed (just look at the scope for the XM5), it's just a matter of doing it correctly and in a secure manner. I also doubt you'll be able to keep it out of civilian hands once it exists, because as we all know, you can't stop the signal. Information inherently wants to be free, and with modern 3D printing and computer machining processes, anyone with a small desktop CnC setup could machine and print most of the parts you'd need for a scope like this, and then source the hardware from the open market (because lets be real, the average person isn't going to care as much about security for a DIY project). It all feeds into the same cyberpunk technological future concept, the same as any other smart tech. People will be getting internet connected eye implants and using those as rifle scopes at some point, you bet your ass someone's gonna find a way to make the gun more capable using the same hardware that process all that for you

      @@TheOriginalFaxon honestly, it sounded like as long as you remove the wifi you're fine. But since they flogged their coding team to death that also caused product insecurity. If the code team was overworked that would explain all the bugs Remington saw. Since it was developed open source in theory anyone should have been able to get copy now that I think about it....So yea, shut the company down, hoard the IP, join a secret gov't think tank, and we're starting to see the tech in things like Vortex' NGSW-FC and the new Goggles the Army wants. And fwiw, you're right, there WILL be an enhanced cybereye optic that will work just as good as any scope! Just give it 20yrs!

      No doubt. Seems like a no-brainer great way to turn a local population into an unstoppable overthrow machine, pretty quickly. I don't know, if I had to guess, I'd say you're probably right. Makes sense they'd want this off the market, both to ensure domestic stability by limiting supply, and to promote foreign instability where needed by increasing supply.

    "Hunting" suggests a certain degree of skill that this product takes away. So it's not hunting but slaughter.
    Like any technology, the military applications are potentially hugh. Most rounds fired in modern war are to suppress the enemy. If that could be converted to majority guaranteed hits it would be a game changer.
    Of course your average elk isn't normally firing back, or able to deploy sensor confusing countermeasures.

    • @djluminol
      @djluminol 2 роки тому +1

      Lots of people hunt for food instead of sport. In that case slaughter is entirely a justifiable end. Nature is in essence a free meat department for some families. I have no issue with that. I think it's weird to say using this technology is cheating when we have been using guns. The gun itself is cheating by that standard. Still neither are valid imo. At least not if your purpose is food. If your purpose is sport than yes, it's cheating. Anything past bow hunting would be imo. Sport implies each side had an equal chance of winning. A rifle changes that equation and this scope makes the balance even worse. A bow on the other hand is more equal. So if they want to be picky about it.

We went to a West VA range that had sufficient range and put it in the hands of private security. XE...and devgru. It performed flawlessly. We fired new prototypes as well as existing available products. My buddy wrote about it in marine corps times as a result of this meet up. The Navy ordered 5000 units. Pretty sure they were canceled due to the hacking issues. However...you need to look at them again. They've been back 9nline for some time now. You can order and they will build a system today.

    I think a computer aided firearm well really be effective in three main situations. The first is for military long range precision, where it can allow for soldiers to take up a designated marksmen role without haveing to be specially trained for that role. The only training that would be needed is weapons qualification and how to use the scope which would be fairly stright forward. The second is for meat hunting, where putting meat on the table can be the difference between going hungry or not. And the third is for pest control, where again getting the animal down is the main priority. It dose defeat the point of hunting for sport. And outside of the richest military it's going to be to expensive and logistically hard to put on everyone's rifle.

      Dragon Scale. Overlapping ceramic disks instead of a chicken plate. Theoretically better because the loss of one disk does not degrade performance as badly as a chicken plate hit in the same area twice.

    This is nothing more than an optic that adjust for several variables for you. The video referred to it several times as a self-aiming rifle. Though a system like this may be matched to the specific ballistics of a certain rifle, the rifle is still held and manipulated by the user. That user still has to identify targets, hold the rifle steady and have good shooting skills to make this work to its potential. Yes it could help any level of shooter make more hits but it by no means makes them a marksman much less a sniper. A sniper is not defined by their weapon. All said It is an awesome idea and will be developed further as we can see by several other products coming out these days.

    I used to have one. They are amazing rifles. The AR weighs like 12 lbs and it takes getting used to watching a digital screen instead of a glass scope. The funny thing is it is not be any means easily tampered with. The Wi-Fi is 30 feet. A hacker has to have a laptop within 30 feet of the scope that has Wi-Fi turned on and they hacked the app not the scope. They literally took one apart and reverse engineered the hardware but still couldn’t get in. They hacked the app. All the hack could do was change the variable for bullet weight and the wind. So they could make the gun miss the target by saying the bullet weighs 999999 grains. Making it over comp and miss the target. The fix was simple. Turn off the Wi-Fi if you see more than 1 user on your screen.
    I had the Remington 2020. Once they got the bugs worked out, its truly amazing. They even had a thermal version. And the scope view streamed (Wi-Fi) to a iPad or pair of glasses letting you make precision shots around corners. It was similar to the sentry gun on COD with a little work and a tripod. The price is the problem. 15,000 for a 5.56 is stupid. Now ATN makes a scope that does almost everything the tracking point scope could do and its under 1,000. And yes i have one of those too. Night vision in 4K quality. The tracking point was better, but the atn does most of the things and its actually affordable, and they are still in business so you can send it back for repair if needed. Ike it or not, this is the future of optics

Ron Reagan wanted to deploy a neutron bomb, such a weapon would detonate and kill every human and higher life forms in an area equivalent to a normal hydrogen bomb.However it can echieve this without destroying the actual infrastructure. Also the after effects of radiation and fallout would be greatly minimized. The drawbacks of this type of weapon is that the humans in the death zone would not be killed immediately, so it was considered a sort of chemical weapon, if you saw the flash of it you are as good as dead,not then but sone.And the good part about it that 2weeks later your house car etc can be used by the victor.

    LUDDITES OF THE WORLD, UNITE!
    As long as "civilians" have access to computers, they have access to weaponized computers. For example, as a safety measure, there's a system that can use sound to determine if a steel girder is intact or if that structural member needs replacing. This transducer can be modified to emit a resonate frequency of enough amplitude to cause structural failure. Or the remote ignition feature of modern automobiles can be remotely hacked so that when the car is travelling at highway speeds, the engine shuts off--permanently. Since most of the smart cars have power steering and power brakes, when the engine shuts off the driver loses both steering and brakes. Do you have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what happens next?
    The software used in TrackingPoint can be duplicated. How well does a bootleg copy have to work? The biggest secret in making atomic bombs was that fission could be made to work--after that, the next biggest problem was obtaining enough fissionable material. When there just wasn't enough uranium, someone discovered a man-made substitute--plutonium. Are there still incompetents who believe that banning something will put the genie back in the bottle?

      Ya, not really event that dangerous overall imo. I mean, oh wow it could turn someone who was an amateur into a pro gunman... Not. Yes, it can definitely help them, but they still need to line up, laser and identify the target, and then work to adjust aim. This takes some time, time that any person who spends some time learning to shoot themselves can achieve. Against a human sized target at normal walking speeds or standing or sitting it's not really all that impressive honestly. Still nice, but again, not something lots of people already can do, or anyone can with some time and effort to learn (instead of this super expensive thing). So for crimes... not that big of a deal imo... and most crimes are committed at closer ranges, where this isn't as well suited or important anyway. So yes it could be dangerous... but not really any more dangerous than the already present options, only potentially a bit more dangerous in some specific peoples hands if they are on a time limit perhaps, but still not to a level above what's already normal for many others. While an extreme, it's like saying we can't let people buy wheelchairs because now those who were challenged with mobility can more easily steal stuff and run(roll) away quickly. Like... yes, it might make it easier for some to commit crimes... but not in any way that really matters. Or more relatedly, what about normal scopes at all? Those let people aim at shoot from a distance better, letting people be more dangerous with guns... not relying on really good eyes or stuff, yet that's perfectly normal, it's just something that assists people in using a tool
      And for it being hacked. General common sense, if you see or know there's a person where you are pointing the gun... don't shoot regardless. If someone hacks it so the display tells you to adjust off five or ten feet... and miss by five... oh well, you should expect random issues with bullets, random hits on plants or branches or other things that might cause issues, you never fire if there's someone or something important that close to your target normally. So while it'd be annoying if someone screws up your device, it's not that big of a safety concern if you still are a remotely responsible person. And if you aren't... well I don't think you'd do any better with a normal gun that couldn't be hacked.
      And honestly, having it be modifiable in software would be a plus for me and many others who would like to try our own tweaks or change parts of it (of coarse, we'd use it cautiously and test thoroughly, never trust it too much like mentioned previously, no firing if people or things you don't want holes in are anywhere roughly down range of your barrel).
      Oh, and on making the atomic bombs, there is actually a lot more to it than just packing some radioactive material together, most of the time you do it poorly, you get a ton of radiation and a dirty bomb, but a weak one. Making a good bomb that actually uses up most of the material in it and doesn't just scatter apart and break itself apart before a reaction sets in requires tons of math, testing, and lots of work. There's a reason these programs are so damn expensive, and why nukes are so expensive even for countries that already know how to make them and much more than basic material costs. These things are extremely fine precision pieces of engineering that shouldn't be taken lightly. Though ya, a random pile of it crammed together to make simple critical mass can still devastate a small local area but that's not the WMD type we normally think of and are concerned about then. So random people can still cause disasters easily with some material, but going and making full on large scale weapons... that's a pretty tricky one thankfully.

      cutting off an engine at highway speed does not mean you have no steering or brakes if the car has a manual transmission you will still have both as the engine is mechanically coupled to the wheels although as your speed reduces both hydraulic and vacuum assistance will diminish if it is a car with automatic transmission you will lose vacuum braking assistance making braking much harder but a competent driver will slowly ably the parking brake your steering might get heavier without hydraulic assistance but steering will still be possible as hydraulic assistance has its biggest benefit when at low to no speed so both of the examples you give are not really a problem i would be more worried about someone hacking cars with self parking and assuming control of the steering

    Not sure if it's related, but the Israeli's have their own version of this tech for their military and it was being tested by the US Military in 2020. Smart Shooter Ltd. is the Israeli company.
    IIRC, with their version, you pull the trigger and the rifle releases the bolt when the optimal shooting trajectory is achieved.
    Personally, going after the lucrative military contracts was the right play. Trying to angle this tech at hunting/civilian use just seemed silly.
    /edit not sure what happened to the last post.

      "Releasing the bolt" only works for open-bolt weapons (like belt fed machine guns). Shooting from the open bolt is horribly inaccurate, as the weapon moves considerably during the feeding / chambering / locking process, which all happens post bolt release, prior to firing. Perhaps you meant releasing the sear, and therefore firing a closed-bolt weapon? Which I could see happening, and remaining "fairly" accurate.

    That's a very fascinating piece of technology.
    But it's very difficult to judge the consequences of this rifle being used on a large scale which from a today's perspective is unlikely due to its high price.
    In a few years the price will drop significantly imo if more research and money is being invested.
    But the general danger will remain. The concern about new technologies like algorithms, "smart" technology etc. is that it could malfunction and could be used for a harmful purpose and therefore injure and kill humans (the user or other people) which is a completely different story when it comes to a "smart" rifle that was literally designed to kill. Sure (weapon) technology evolves but it was mostly used for military only.
    Even if the weapon is properly working and used as it should, I still see hacking as a serious problem

    Auto aiming sounds like a misnomer. Sounds like Auto firing. But that would be confusing too. It doesn't seem like the technology changes the aim of the weapon it seems more like you have to keep attempting to aim it and it picks the right time to release the bullet. There is a safety you have to be pulling the trigger or it won't fire. The feature conveniently overlooked by the naysayers.

    • @geniferteal4178
      @geniferteal4178 2 роки тому

      Not knowing how it actually works I'm thinking that the dot telling you where to aim is initially set directly by you but then there's an offset calculation involved and what you're given to aim with allows for the difference (how you should aim to hit that point) when the two cross that's when it fires. Just a guess but it seems logical.

    The question of whether civilians ( i.e. American gun buying public ) have access to computer aided weapon is almost a "click bait" question, the vast majority of gun owners ignore the NRA "requested" weapon protocols already, and this is excluding those who purposely misuse non-computer aided weapons ( to the misery and death of too many ) on a literal daily basis.
    Defining and promoting a high caliber multi-shot tactical weapon using a "Smart-Stand-Alone" targeting system as a "hunting rifle" is almost facetious. To call this weapon a hunting rifle was done by the manufacturer solely to prevent anti-gun political concerns, indeed even the NRA's highly efficient and highly paid lobbying group would have an extremely difficult time preventing any regulatory backlash on such a device.
    Any sniper can understand the battle field and non-battlefield potential behind this system. With a such a weapon using off-market parts to allow a weapon to become fully auto, using a set up with weeks or days in advance, with tripod, cell phone connection, battery power, in any urban "blind" such a user can stand alone meters, or hundreds of kilometers away, paint any target and let the software define the perfect shot, all in real time.
    That is pretty sophisticated system for hunting "deer".
