  • AMOY STREET LUNCH P2HA - SINGAPORE HAWKER CENTRES
Revisited Amoy Street food centre during lunch today. They only have these 2 precious hours to make the best of it. Wanted to showcase some stalls there for all to see. I encourage you to make a trip there for takeaways if you’re working from home currently. It’s also the best time to visit while it’s less crowded without the full force of the lunch time crowd. We need to help keep our Hawkers afloat

Your videos are well done and interesting. The comments on them make them more engaging and different from the many other similar videos there. Some are humorous. Thanks for the effort.

No one does hawker videos like you do. I’ll be moving to Singapore soon, and your videos are making me obsessed with visiting every hawker centre. Thank you. I get excited every-time an alert shows up on UA-cam.

😂 thanks dude.. means much to me. Singapore Hawkers would be a great start coz it’s a cultural melting pot.. and we are starting to see more international and fusion introduction to our Hawkers.. but I still prefer those traditional comfort food. It’s a precious window of opportunity now as a lot of the older Hawkers are retiring and their art would be lost in time

That’s the reason why so many Hawkers have their own unique stance when frying things.. many are actually trying to find a suitable stance to mask the pain on certain parts of the body muscles. Who would have thought that you need to work smart being a hawker.. what’s the best egornomical way to go about their daily tasks. One such incredible hawker is the Tien Tien lai Hokkien Mee fella. He told me it’s ok.. no pain at all 😂 respect 💪🏼

3 weeks ago you showed this hawker center. In the beginning when you walked in, the 1st stall CKT, uncle sleeping, no biz. Today long queue. Power of social media.

Oh my god - the CKT uncle is still there !! I was in SG from 2011 - 2014 and worked in Capital Tower, so Amoy was my "work hawker" (Maxwell was my home one hehe). Uncle looked old then, look older now, but still throwing the CKT out :) Dude was one of the few stalls open on public holidays (apart from CNY). Also - Hor Fun / Fried rice place - I am sure used to be called "Good Day". Auntie / uncle look younger, but everything else seems same - I had that Hor Fun many times ! SG hawker food is such an important thing - hope it stays for a long, long time.

Yeah.. some old hawkers are still there.. most said they know not what to do if they retire for good 😅 but many of them are already in their 70s or 80s.. the original hawker scenes that we know of will be over taken by a new breed of owners.. younger and with more aspiration to make money from it.. the original hawkers were just out to serve the community and to live by

Another good video. Love that elderly hawker's CKT. Nice to go boxes, must be a pretty penny for that container. Really enjoy the Wok Hei of that younger hawker who makes those amazing fried rice, wah tan hor....yummmm!!!👍😂

yeah.. sometimes.. i secretly felt it's ok to charge 20-50cents a box.. can help encourage folks to bring their container.. one less undegradable piece of plastic floating around on earth..

observation....Here in US, these type food probably average usd10 each. Similar food in Malaysia I think RM8. In Singapore average SGD4. But typical salary lower in Malaysia than Singapore based on local currency. Salary in US slightly higher in US. Conclusion... Spore has stronger purchasing power when it comes to food in general. But other costs like housing and cars cost more typically in Spore than US.

It looks good, and in fact I'm hungry right now, and as it's lunch time here now, I'll follow your example and go find something to eat. ^^
But it seems like nonsense to me, they put those nets over the chairs and tables so people can't sit.
Now the same people who would sit there, just sit next to each other eating at their tables at the office or at park benches etc.... (and they already stand next to each other ordering and waiting for their food, everything is "make believe", as in "we just do something for show, we know it doesn't work, but at least nobody can accuse us of doing nothing in a year from now or when the next "strain" is introduced".)
Sorry for the rant my friend, and THANK YOU for another nice video. ^^
    Thomas

It’s true! You nailed it. Same exact sentiments.. when the restrictions are lifted.. it’s back to over crowding again. However.. I see some point of taking draconian measures because every Tom dick and Harry would be arguing in what way have they broken the law etc.. there are just quite a few of such irresponsible individuals that makes it hard to control. New norm. People just need to respect some level of social distancing.
Haha.. just go enjoy your lunch. And thanks for visiting again Thomas 😎

Thank you so much for sharing. You're so cute, there should have a law for GRAB delivery charges..Who are the major share holders?...

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  3 роки тому

Yah.. I wanted to know if I pay $9 to deliver my meal.. how much goes to the hawker. To grab. And to driver. At least I know what I’m paying for. That way.. I know how much the Hawkers are actually taking for that bowl. Unless grab doesn’t want it to be transparent.

Yes.. lucky the crowd seems to be alive and kicking.. but it’s only for lunch. Good time to visit would be 11.30 or 1.45 but some may run out coz I believe they also cater portions for less orders
