Great next step Video! I love it. I see a lot of my Eagle training moments from the past in this as well. And some mistakes I did that I probably wouldn't have made if this kind of video series would have already been available back then. Once again, and I can't say it offen enough, you are doing a great job for the education of beginners as well as for the falconry community in general! And what a lovely dress up with your camo-shorts and the wellies! 😅👍🫶
If half the Women in the UK had legs like yours Dave they would walk around on their hands😁. Seriously Dave two questions, 1 I always give my young birds one or two feeds on both lures beside their bow perch in order for them not to be nervous of them. The first time I introduce either lure to them in the field they go for it first time, is there any draw backs in your opinion on doing this. My second question is like you I have a very late year bird, when will you put Henry down to moult. My girl has been flying free for about 5 weeks and has three kills but is as I said a very late 2023 bird.
@kilakila992kilakila2 not at all I most often do the same myself certainly with falcons . He will fly every day more or less 12 months of the year . They moult on the rim but never do a perfect one hit moult …
Lovely in real time watch, it is good to see how things should and are best done. Henry will have a lovely mind set. Dave in your opinion whats your thoughts on first year mistakes being made, can they be rectified, things like screaming, flying to fences, bad hunters, or hooding. Can these be addressed after a moult. Can a second hand hawk that has not been best worked be trained well. I often wonder how much they forget and remember. Maybe a long answers i know but food for thought in a video maybe. Lovely viewing.
Hiya pete ; I tend to look at it like you have to work around bad habits as many seem to stick , and it can need patients . Some like hood shy birds can usually be sorted easily . But flying to fences or trying to fly everytime you taken a step forward can take a lot more work as it’s seems so ingrained and easily triggered . Screaming is the next video after this (11 part!) series ! Usually the worst of them that started baby screaming like Henry shit up as they mature after year three ; doh!! I don’t like second hand stuff due to the bed habits they come with and also I like th training but most of all . But many love sorting out and working with second hand stuff for sure
Been out today 15 misses on rabbits then a hare she got tangled in a branch Wich really isnt like her bit of an off day or high winds on a hill Any thoughts
@@falconry.davesharpenatureboy well you wernt wrong litrally got out the car got into the woods took her leash off boom rabbit it the bag Followed by 1 more thought I'd leave her on a high 2 catches full crop buzzin
When mine is done with the food in the lure, I always discretely hide it while offering the food from the glove. If I keep both (lure and glove), his attention is divided and his response is slow. Once I have the lure out of his view, he instantly jumps to my glove.
Always a pleasure...

@@falconry.davesharpenatureboy Thanks Dave nice reply, I think I'd like the challenge of a problem hawk although that is not happening, I'm too busy 😉
