The fact that he is South African makes this instructional video pretty based.
Based? Based on what?
@@WasatchGarandMan based on rich diversity and inclusion.

@@WasatchGarandMan I think that's cool kid slang for "based in reality" or "grimly down to earth"!
His accent resembled NZ or Aussie.
Love this rifle!I fell in love with it shooting with the Belgian and Dutch armies back in the late 80s during my time in Germany and Europe.I had to own one. When the first FAL types came out in the early 90s by CIA made in Canada with a metric receiver and got one, ever since then i have a CIA,Imbel, and DSA South African style carbine.Fantastic rifles!
well done m8..yes we in the Netherlands did had only the FN FAL, and the license made ones from AI Netherlands...it was an beast...
I have one of these. I bought this rifle in the late 90's That is one bad muther. Thank you DSA for making a great rifle.
one of the best guns ever made! I had it for 22 months in the military. I fired over 1500 bullets, never had a jam! with many possibilities and with the ability to throw grenades against tanks! incredible weapon. Congratulations on your channel. for the younger ones to learn.
I LOVE THIS RIFLE!!! THanks again dsainc IT SHOOTS SOOOOO WELL!
Cool video. Glad that someone is still producing the FAL!
The FAL gas system is awesome for reloaders,
Can't wait to get one of these! Ordering one next week to be delivered here in Texas!!
I'm finally going to get my chance to own this one after been wanting it for a few years now, definitely exciting!
Couple comments, Showing how to take out the gaspiston for cleaning, as it will rust shut if not cleaned from time to time.
Adjusting gas; have found that army way of finding gas setting is a bit easier, open for full by blow/flow, put one round into magazine and fire it (at target), if action locks up on BHO (bolt hold open) catch, just tighten couple notches up and you are good to go.
If it doesn´t eject and lock on BHO, just adjust gas step up and try again untill you come to the point were bolt and carrier stays behind BHO catch (remember always one round in a mag) and adjust up 2 notches from where it worked on BHO.
Placed an order for one at the factory a week ago, I'm shaking with anticipation.
We were trained to remove the gas plug and piston before removing the bolt carrier and to replace it last when reassembling the rifle. And switching off the gas system was to allow for a grenade launcher operated by a blank cartridge which some country's used.
Why does it matter to remove the gas piston first?
Difficult for me to imagine someone buying a rifle like this without reading the instruction manual and/or buying a FAL field guide. They're available everywhere.
We used to use the gas regulator as a counter when counting steps 😊 caused a mild panic upon contact. I do miss the SLR. It is interesting that the civilian version still comes with a reversible gas plug, we only ever used it when firing rifle grenades.

Ordered my FAL from DSA 3 months ago can’t wait to get it
Why so long? Is that normal wait time?
@@Mr.Lawton534 wound up taking about five months. I think they make them to order.
@@GammaZeta thats alot,what model u got?
@@Mr.Lawton534 I got the traditional profile
@@GammaZeta are you happy with it or wish got something else?
Used an L1A1 during my service in the British Army in the 70s. The L1A1 has a numbered gas regulator with an optimum number setting. It worked and was very simple to use. This modern FAL seems to have a bit of a finicky regulator. Also if you look at the regulator you can see how much of the gas port is open or closed So you would have to be a bit dim not to realise what its for.
I think it would have had an optimum number for standard NATO issue 7.62mm ammo, which would have had a consistent propellant pressure.
Good vid, Dan
great video sir -- nice rifle hope to be buying one in the future -God bess
Good video, very illustrative,
By the way field stripping includes stripping the gas system and cleaning it. Not just the bolt and carrier.
Id love to have one
Great
GREAT WEAPON WE USE IT BACK IN 1995 HELLENIC SPECIAL FORCES 7,62 ONE SHOT ONE KILL......SO SIMPLE
Your FALs used to be like $900, now they're considerably more. What happened?
Demand.
No, with higher demand prices go down because MFG can afford to expand production into more effecient ways. If you noticed, all prices (groceries, retail stores, etc) doubled early this year. This is the markets response to the universal wage doubling that is happening as well as a bubble break from the unchecked gov spending. I'm sure I don't have to explain why universal wage increases are bad (does not increase SES and puts people in higher taxing brackets. People did not have to pay income tax just decades ago).
Keep the gas low at outdoor ranges so the casing doesn't go flying 20 feet to the right of you
plus if it does jam, that is good malfunction clearance drills for the beginning until you learn to quickly clear the rifle. Win win. Then for actual use crank up the gas.
WOW good idea always wondered how to counteract that thanks!
At the default settings, it should kick the brass at least 10 feet forward and diagonally, just like an M14 or G3. Left-handed shooters LOVE that.
I acquired some Mags DS Arms however they have a hard time getting ejected from my PARA FAL IMBEL. It becomes very difficult to remove the MAG from the rifle. What could be happening?
Thanks.
I need me a rifle asap! x
Are the barrels in these gun chrome lined
Is the gas system adjustable enough to cycle sub-sonic 125gr or 168 gr loads? Is the flash hider theaded on? If so, what size are the threads?
my wife just traded a 12 ga browning BPS for one of these, i was thinking the same thing, subsonic ammo and suppressor, I know you can get kits to turn a mag light into suppressor. I was thinking 220 grain bullet for suppressed load?
Ryan Ehlis But I'm not into the whole trailer-park/illegal silencers/taking it up the butt in federal prison scene . . .
Is there any downside on MAXIMUM gas?
Yes it will increase recoil and wear on the firearms and sometimes depending on the ammo it can help induce FTE
My fal will only fire one shot and then the action locks up and is extremely difficult to work. Any reason for this?
Set the gas on 3 or 4 and your fal will work perfectly, do not touch the gas, FN made the gas control system because the customers had different calibers, when it is well adjusted to 308 never touch more gas adjustment.
Sounds to me like you had a fault with your carrier or bolt ...
but why would you only want to shoot 1 round without loosing your brass( evidence)?... oh wait i get it cheeky

every body loved this rifle yet they took it out of service because politicians made decisions not soldiers they should have modernised it for 21st century with auto and recoil they carry more 556 ammo when less 762 would have done the job great rifle with optics william
Edith Dodds about the modernization of the FAL you should see the Brazilian imbel Ia2 it does have the version on 5,56 and 7,62 on the theory it's a new assault/battle rifle but it's basic a modernized FAL and still a very nice rifle
South African accent with a few american tweaks
Slot flopper
Less music more shooting
This is what every gun manufacturer should be doing - a standard endurance test!
